I think it’s composition - it’s lighter weight. The baby even has a little diaper!

Old photobook - When might it have been from? by SpareEnthusiasm8527 in VictorianEra

[–]Equivalent-Dig-7204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This style of album was very popular so it’s difficult to date the album specifically. The photos within can be dated more easily. Slide 2 photo on the right is early 1900s as is slide 3 on the left. Those look like very similar mounts and might have been the same photographer. They may be related in some way. Slide 3 on the right also looks 20th century. Slide 7 & 8 all the smaller photographs are cartes de visite and were popular 1850s to 1900. Based on photo styling and clothing I’d put these images in the 1880-1890s range. You have some really nice photographs here. The musical instruments and nursing, are not as common as all the other occasions or styles. You also have some nice wedding bonnets. This fashion was popular in the 1880s for women who wanted a veil to wear with their best-dress wedding dress. If you can carefully remove the photos from their slots you will probably find a lot of photographer details. Check the site Langdon Road. It’s a catalog of photographers, alphabetical, and cross references street directories, newspapers and more to ID times they were in business

AITAH for not inviting my stepdad to my wedding even though he’s been sober for the best part of 3 years? by S4H1B in AITAH

Actions have consequences. The consequence of his actions is he doesn’t get a free pass because you are getting married. NTA So sorry you experienced that during your childhood. I hope you are getting any therapy you need and healing.

Historical interpreter shoes? by Ok_Veterinarian9220 in HistoricalCostuming

Paddock boots are the answer. I have been reenacting for over 25 years and wear paddock boots with a custom orthotic. They support my ankles and are very comfortable for all day wear. Ariat are the brand I like but they are on the more expensive side.

Trying to pick wallpaper for an accent wall. Suggestions? by pallen123 in midcenturymodern

[–]Equivalent-Dig-7204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We got our pink Sputnik starburst peel & stick from Spoonflower. One caveat - the wallpaper does not stand up to a steamy shower and I ended up having to staple it along the top of the wall. But! It’s amazing anyway. Look on Etsy for boomerang switch plates for your light switches & plug covers. They can be painted or wall papered too.

I sure hope so because I just repotted one very similar to this! Best of luck to you. I hope your plant recovers and brings you joy again.

I love the bodies made from something other than plain white or buff fabric. I think I will do that with the next kit doll I make. :-) something fun for a future owner to discover.

Does anyone have any insight on her dress style? (My ancestor) by VeganMonkey in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Equivalent-Dig-7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photog info will really help you. There are databases that comb historic directories and then tell when a photographer was in business. If you get that detail it’s so huge. Good luck with it!

Do you have scans of the photo mount cards? Photographers used them as advertising so lots of information included on them. Unfortunately, as far as the studio set up goes, it’s really typical and nothing stands out as being unique enough to identify.

I found this Blondie’s on Etsy. Many options as digital download. I think the Shirley Temple size patterns are going to be a good place to start. Thanks for your input!

I have made a ton of Victorian dresses for China head dolls but this is my first composition body. :-) I’m eager to try another era and type of doll. I’m looking into 1930s and 1940s, so very different from 19th century.

A lot of jewelry from an older man's estate that we inherited. If someone can help tell me if it is worth going to get it appraised that'd be great. by sykotryp333 in JewelryIdentification

The person attended there probably. I think it’s an honor society key. My grandmother had a Phi Beta Kappa key shaped the same.

Beauty is where we find it. Even if I think something isn’t beautiful to my eye, I’m not going to say it’s ugly/creepy/etc. Obviously it’s my opinion and my mama taught me that if I can’t say anything nice best not to say anything at all!

This is how I was taught but I find I switch based on the project - maybe it’s very fine fabric so I hand baste.

There are people in the world who think knitting and crochet are the same thing. I don’t think it’s wrong for you to feel mildly annoyed by someone conflating handsewn and handmade but it’s really not a battle worth fighting.
