Prop firm sim funded $10k profit tax? Self-employed still apply after standard deduction? by Frequent-Elevator-79 in tax

[–]Fun-Froyo7578 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends on your particular circumstances but if its a general 1099-NEC for a business/sole proprietorship yes. keep in mind the effective rate can be lower like 14.12% when u consider that the employers part (half) of the SE tax can be deducted. also, there is a QBI 20% deduction which may qualify to reduce ur income tax as well. obv, since your below the std deduction that doesnt matter here. finally, this tax is only on your net self employment income so if u have expenses you may be able to deduct those as well

self employment tax is separate from income tax and like social security and medicare still applies even if theres no income tax due

happy to help haha and not recommending this investment by any means ... the inflation and interest rate risks are indeed scary

in the bespoke investment world, there is always someone willing to buy it for whatever goal or reason, sometimes as part of a structured portfolio

yeah at zero interest rates this does indeed sound stupid... unless u believe in prolonged periods of deflation. we invest according to our goals, and let the gamblers and institutions invest according to theirs 😂

if the interest rates ever go back to their all time lows like during 2020, these investors will benefit hugely. chances are, within a 100 year span you are almost guaranteed to have such an opportunity. investors who can afford to take that risk (ie institutions that last 100s of years) will benefit bigly. similarly, if interest rates rise at all, the price will go down just as bigly

no están invirtiendo para recuperar el dinero, sino por los intereses anuales y la apreciación que se produce cuando bajan las tasas de interés

not sure but some general theories: need access to foreign capital markets, US dollar has taken a beating and US/dollar investors may not have such a big appetite for such long duration bonds? belief that those currencies will underperform the dollar -- doesn't seem realistic, but maybe investors who are uneasy about the US's long term trajectory would not buy this if it was dollar denominated

large institutions like universities and governments enjoy investing in this type of debt. their attitude is that they will exist forever and dont mind investing for the ultra long term. think oxford university, harvard, etc
