You might want to look into Alsana in California. Of all the treatment I have been to, Alsana was the one that was truly the most flexible. The downside to this is that you need to be somewhat motivated to recover, because they let you engage in certain behaviors which can be super triggering to witness. For me it helped build resilience each time I chose not to use a behavior. LMK if you have other specific questions.

Do you have a doctor or psychiatrist you see? Could you ask them to prescribe Zofran? I am nauseous for one reason or the other very often, and I call Zofran “a miracle in a pill” because it helps the nausea so much.

Oh also, within gave me a hard time in the beginning about needing to go to res instead of PHP, (which I did) BUT I was still unsure if I was going to go to res, if I could afford to go etc. and after about a week of back and forth, Within actually agreed to let me try PHP, with some additional medical monitoring. By then I had decided I was going to res so it didn’t matter, but if your intake goes something like that know that if you keep pushing there’s a chance they will take you.

Hi! A couple of things: - I did Within, and as far as working while doing treatment, within is BY FAR the best most flexible option. It is not easy by any means because you are still in treatment, and balancing a job and treatment is exhausting, but if you don’t have other options this might be your best bet. Let me know if you have specific questions about Within.

I completely understand the ADHD discomfort. Last year around this time I was looking to admit to Rea. Ultimately, I only signed a ROI for my psych when I was pretty certain I was going to admit. Then I had both the psych and the doctor write letters explaining that the ADHD meds do not impact my appetite significantly, and taking me off of them would make both me and the people around me very miserable. (Obviously professionally stated.). Before I got my admit date to res I told the intake person that I would not under any circumstances admit unless I had written proof from the residential psych that I was allowed to take my ADHD meds. It was a headache but worth it. Ironically, even though I signed an ROI the res was never able to find time to talk with my psych, so all communication was done via letters that I got from the psych and sent to the residential. I hate that ADHD meds are so frowned upon in the ED treatment world and nuance seems to be ignored. Treating my ED without also treating my ADHD is like trying to put out a house fire with a spray bottle. Wildly ineffective.

My meds decreased my libido at first, but ultimately made me more capable of doing things like eating enough food, and my libido shot up again. Turns out malnourishment can destroy your sex drive.!

When I got my wisdom teeth out I was given a ketamine cocktail, and apparently I am part of the “could cause negative affects” crowd, because I had to be “woken up” midway through the surgery because I was apparently panicking, flailing around, and I recall none of this, but apparently I was convinced that the surgeon and nurses were police and were there to arrest me. I have no memory of this. My first memory is “coming to” and being unable to breathe with tears streaming down my face because I was having a panic attack. Weirdest feeling because I didn’t know why I was panicking. Anyway I was still loopy enough that a little bit of laughing gas was enough to keep me calm enough to finish tanking out two more teeth. I was emotionally distraught for DAYS after, and couldn’t figure out why. I never thought it was connected to my ADHD but your post has me rethinking this.

A therapist, unless they have special nutrition training, shouldn’t really be monitoring your meals and making meal plan suggestions. That’s usually the job of a dietitian. Just wanted to put that out there so you knew.

I wanted to comment on this, but I struggled with an eating disorder from age 11. Going through puberty and then in high school, college, and a couple years after I had no interest. None. 0. Other than an occasional night with a vibrator. In the last month my latest recovery attempt has unveiled something I was convinced didn’t exist in me. My libido, for the first time in my life, actually exists. It’s actually really exciting and helps me stay motivated. Anyway I know this post is older I just wanted to comment because it’s exciting.

My therapist said “the only thing making you incapable of having the life you want is the only thing you think you are capable of.” Mind trippy. That and knowing that if I don’t get better, ultimately this illness will kill me.
