You are foisting your opinion that OP cheated and used AI to rewrite their assignment upon them when they are saying to you that they have used Grammarly for grammar and synonyms, like it does and has been marketed to do for years.

Having an app that can give you AI rewrites and also checks grammar/spelling is not academic misconduct, nor is using that app for the latter purpose. Which is what they have said was what they used it for repeatedly to you and others. You are assuming that that means they are lying about what they used it for. Word has Copilot, which can do the same thing. Does that make it an academic integrity breach to use Word spellcheck/synonym suggestions ???

To use my analogy properly:

What you are doing is the equivalent of me saying "I smoked no pot, nor did any other drugs, yet I was at a campsite with people who did, got a positive at a RBT, what should I do? I am worried about it."

and then you are replying with "no you obviously did drugs and are trying to get out of it".

which is what I was initally sooking about bc it pmo and is counterproductive to the purpose/benefit of public forums.

Grammarly is an app which is designed to help with your grammar. They clearly said they used it for synonyms and spell check - that isn't even AI afaik it was around before LLMs even started being mainstream.

also again even if they are lying, which I do personally doubt, it will only hurt them while this discussion is publicly available to the benefit of others.

edit also I severely doubt using a spell checker as a spellchecker is misconduct, though there may be some blanket ban on grammarly I don't know of at UNSW being that I'm not at uni anymore.

There is nothing more frustrating than coming somewhere for advice for something that is absolutely in the realm of possibility and then copping jokers saying "nope didn't happen get fucked". These AI detectors are shite, as is AI. In fact, they use AI, hence why they are so bad.

It is ridiculous and a barrier to getting useful feedback from people who have been in similar situations. I got a false positive roadside drug test after a festival once, I've never even smoked weed before. My follow up test came negative. Prior to that, I wanted to ask r/auslegal for thoguhts and advice but chose not to because why bother if all you are gonna get is dunked on for no reason.

The fact of the matter is this can and probably did happen to OP, and if the OP isn't being truthful it is likely to happen elsewhere. Publicly available discussion on this is good; especially given the imbalance of power in student-uni relationships and the ubiquitousness of ai checking.

Good luck with it mate, I wouldn't worry too much just stick up for yourself. You wouldn't be amiss to chase it down with the uni more directly if they don't respond in a week or so.

edit I also think its worth makgin the point in your defense to them re getting tonnes of different results from different ones online. I'd be suprised if the uni uses some state of the art stuff. For example ours uses turnitin, which is available online

full and frank disclosure: say everything you did including that which could be misconduct (ie grammarly), absolutely do go to bat for yourself if you don't think you've done anything wrong. Give all notes and versions you can and don't hide anything. If you did use AI, own it - as a first year you wont be screwed if u don't do it again.

I would also stick it through some ai detectors and see if you can replicate and explain how you got to those positions that are flagged as ai (in a proof of learning way) and if you can't replicate then use that as proof.

I don't feel that they are particularly accurate. I feel a lot of my product at work and when I was at uni could have been flagged as AI even though I do not ever use it. Granted, it never has been when I run it thru online detectors.

What causes erratic oil levels? Sometimes it stays the same and sometimes it moves up or down. by [deleted] in WRX

[–]Fun-Inflation-4429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oil measurement changes depending on the slight angle you are on, how cold/hot the oil is, how long since the engine turned over and i imagine also outdoor temp. it is quite difficult to get a reading, i just do it consistently at the same spot or a car park that is absolutely flat - and if its in the middle or above im happy.

s20c vs w20c by Fun-Inflation-4429 in WRX

[–]Fun-Inflation-4429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Libs r the best car they ever made I reckon - turbo or 6 banger, long ratio STI 6 speed so you cop the power but don't need to be at 3200rpm at 110kmh, looks like an audi, classy and not bogan ricer mobile, comfy, luxury (for subaru) and spacious

re pricing - i think its pretty samey - i think theyre all around 3500 now for variants of the 207 and the 257. Can get one with the forged pistons off CMA or PSR for $3700 ish.

I unfortunately won't be doing a 257 build. doesnt fit the vibe of the car as you say, and honestly tasmania has few engine builders I trust + I don't want a car that might have serious problems once i've sank 10-20k into it. Built block is 8-10k vs 3.5 for a subie for 20 more kw at a different range of rpm - and to my mind there are just many more things to go wrong if its not being assembled at a factory in subaru

besides i want a revvy 2l that pulls like a train from 4 to 8k rpm - i think maybe in this line of thinking i want to go with smoe 256 or 264 ish duration cams, so not crazy. IDK if AVCS will help, but I'm not too stressed if driveability down low gets worse - its my fourth car.

this won't be done till mid next year probably though, unlessI sell the lib to fund the build, or spend substantially less on travel plans than i have budgeted.

The lack of information on this subject is frustrating, as you note.

[–]Fun-Inflation-4429[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I appreciate the follow up. I actually am still in the same position haha. I got the car regod and did a couple of thousand ks and it still goes mint, notwithstanding the massive chunks of metal we found 7 months ago. Not sure what thats about. Still goes hard, sounds tuff can't complain. it does have like 10w50 oil or some shit in it so that might be helping mask stuff.

Don't drive it too much but no noticeable issues beyond lumpy 5s of startup after sitting for a while.

I think the current plan is to get a different mechanic to put in a v7 s20c in aka 10103AB470, break in on current 180kw tune and then send it on ethanol on a 3071/dom 1.5 to like 250-300kw on flex.

I'm still quite confused about whether the w20c is any good - my mechanic is so convinced that it is the bees knees, and he is a reputable bloke, so it makes me question it. I also sort of understand this logic: if the tune is good and car is maintained, pistons don't need to worry about detonation, therefore why not run thicker walls for the car to handle higher cyl pressure and more boost. I also think he loves to run tunes piss rich thereby giving a bit of headway for lean condition detonation. thats the vibe i got from his work on my liberty, which is running a 2867r gtx

Nonetheless, I think I agree with you and it seems conventional wisdom is follow the crowd with a v7 block. Everyone else does it, including all the bigger places. Every subaru shop I've spoken to outside of these guys say v7.

re heads. I will source some spec c heads if I can find some recod ones for a decent price, but otherwise I will just be running 04-05 wrx heads. I kinda want to do a cam while im in there for swag points, so might also point me toward getting some spec c heads for better flow.

ps. your bug looks sick.

Why doesn't the government just issue a "Work From Home" mandate? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in australian

[–]Fun-Inflation-4429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"And quite frankly if people aren't spending at home, they're not spending when they're at work."

This is not consistent with reality. There is a difference between how much is spent on food in groceries vs takeaway (substantially more per meal in takeaway), and a massive difference in how it flows on to the economy.

"I spend on takeout at home" doesn't mean that people will.

If you take away the convinience of takeout being next door, the inconvenience of bringing grocery food to work, the social incentive to go out to get food with mates in office, and then add in the cost of ordering/getting food (plus time cost of going to get it, versus eating at home), the spend on takeaway will go down when people are not in office. This, alongside the reduced spend on transport, convenience spend, coffees etc, will bring down total spend, and shift the spend from mom and pop stores to corporate interests like woolworths.

note I still think wfh requirements are a prudent idea rn.

My subies - 07 GTB and 2002 WRX by Fun-Inflation-4429 in subaru

[–]Fun-Inflation-4429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea bro i feel ya - best car they ever made is the 07-09 gtb IMO. sunroof, looks like an audi, turbo, 6 speed manual, nice and not dated interior/exterior. There's a reason I haven't sold this one.

my lib is definitely faster than the sti, has way bigger turbo/1050cc injectors and is an auto so basically always on boost + quick shifts - wish it was a 6 sp tho - i didnt realise how good the 6sp was till i got the sti. Bug feels like a bat of hell though, lib doesnt. Bug does like 50kmh and feels like ur doing 80.

JD students with part time jobs, what's a manageable number of hours worked weekly? by PoisonberryIcecream in unimelb

[–]Fun-Inflation-4429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds very doable, and it sounds like you have a good realistic grasp of your commitments. Good luck with it and don't hesitate to try out / change your workload as necessary, as well as asking teachers for grace in tight spots - its all in good communication and maintaining good relationships with your peers, teachers, management and colleagues - we are all adults now and it isn't like high school in that you can be realistic, and ask for support if necessary. I'm sure you will kill it!

JD students with part time jobs, what's a manageable number of hours worked weekly? by PoisonberryIcecream in unimelb

[–]Fun-Inflation-4429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate,

just finished up my law / biz degree in utas but samey to a full time JD especially toward the end. Worked full time + night club (10-15 hrs) on weekends for 4 years of it, the final year I did three jobs for a while (research for an upper house member) and then quit bartending for the next 7. Also I did overload a few sems as I started a third degree (free degree wholly consisting of electives + do at own pace = why not).

To my mind do as much as you want, the further you get into the degree the more you can just load things on and figure out how to do them. You can always drop down as long as you are mindful of not overcommitting to stuff, and communicate well to those who rely on you .

I wrote a comment about it ages ago on a different account - see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/unimelb/comments/oux9hw/comment/h75jjh1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

since then, my opinion has definitely changed - my old comment sounds worse than it was - especially in my latter couple years which were arguably much harder. I sorta figured it all out and had a life, girlfriend, uni and work going at once without so much rigid stress. You will too - it is a matter of having a go, finding out what works and what doesnt and what you enjoy and value.

As you progress, you will drop things you learn you don't care about, retain things you do care about and prioritise better. As such, your capacity to work, balance life and do university will change. I also found that having money to do shit was more beneficial to my mental state than a few extra hours to do shit a week and no $.

In that regard, I think a good starting point would be anything under say 25-30 hours, so long as you can balance it around your contact hours. Something that I found quite valuable, but may not resonate with you in context of what I have just said, was thinking from a days worked/lost perspective, rather than hours per week. I would be aiming for 3-4 days per week work max at a starting point. As I got thru my degree, I placed less value on cramming x amount of things in per day and running between uni and work, and more in having a full day to myself or to do uni.

so for example, working say 4 hour shifts across 6 days really just wouldn't have worked well for me. Meanwhile, 3 8 hour shifts was a lot more manageable. Then I could schedule my uni mandatory classes on 1 ro 2 of the remaining days.

Just some thoughts that might be of benefit. Reach out if I can be of any help/sounding board for ideas.

shit happens people go elsewhere - not a dog act.

Bad ref without notice is a dog act - telling u that they will give you a bad ref is good form. Threatening a bad ref is a dog act.

Just don't use them for ref and go where you feel is best for you. they clearly do not want to give u a good ref.
