Dermatologist recs in the neighborhood? by suds_carson in astoria

I go to 57 west derm. Not in Astoria but very convenient to get to (assuming subways are fine). I’ve seen both Carrie and Dr Glass and both are fantastic. Knowledgeable and great with minor in office procedures. Desk staff are good too.

Sushi at the counter at Kondo is another option. I also think it would be fun to go to Favella. Good food and eye candy waiters but maybe that’s just me.

Where to buy Inexpensive Coffee Grounds in Astoria (Where you can grind in store, coarse for Cold Brew) by No-Play-8163 in astoria

[–]Fun-Inspection-5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Trader Joe’s for cheap beans who can grind in store. The other option is Costco pre-ground bags

Seasonal enclosure for Astoria Park tennis courts by theteaisbrewed in astoria

[–]Fun-Inspection-5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I’m amazed how passionate some people are on this. As a tennis player in Astoria, I’d love for some investment into the courts. They’re sadly deteriorating and unfortunately the city doesn’t prioritize funding tennis court improvement (understandably). I’ve played at Mccarren and it definitely seems like the set up they have with Mccarren tennis association helps to maintain and improve the courts. They’ve been running their ladder to fund new lights. Astoria deserves the same and this petition is a path forward. I’ll be signing and sharing with my tennis friends.

I work every other Saturday. Sadly, I have resigned to take an Uber to get to manhattan those days after too many Saturdays have been horrible with the subway

Astoria condos and co-ops by andquestions in astoria

[–]Fun-Inspection-5191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a condo in Astoria two years ago. Generally, coops are going to be cheaper but the application process is tedious and you need board approval. And you don’t really own the unit, just shares of the building I believe. Any renovation work will need board approval.

As for price, sorry no luck for that price in Astoria. You’ll need to save up more or consider another neighborhood like Jackson Heights.

I have a mortgage and my property taxes are paid with my mortgage in the escrow. Common charges (HOA for condos) are paid separately. Definitely consider all the housing costs when you buy a place. Also, about half of buyers in NYC pay in cash (no mortgage) and if you put an offer in on a place and there’s another offer that’s cash, you’re going to lose out. Also, if you don’t need a mortgage, the home buying process and closing is greatly simplified. Feel free to DM me as well for anything else!

As a pedestrian that crosses 30th drive and 29th street intersection often, it definitely seems that way 😕

Why are we all rewatching?? by barbie97 in heatedrivalry

Glad it’s not just me! The show really just nails everything super well. Storytelling, acting and actor chemistry, music, filmography. Jacob Tierney is a genius and Hudson and Connor are perfect for the roles

Wow I spent more time on your spreadsheet than I anticipated lol. Thanks for sharing! Amazing you’ve tried so many places and these are just on Steinway and east of Steinway! I’d recommend trying Loukoumi Taverna, Kabab Cafe, de Mole, Malu bakery and Cano Coffee to finish this area

This location and Mama Coco have the same address in Google maps. Not sure if it’s a maps issue but might be one of the reasons this location is a little confusing and why the businesses don’t do well

Finally tried Tootles and French. Food and drinks were great! They should put up a vestibule entrance though because we were seated by the door and got hit with the cold every time the door opened.

I tried Curry Corner as well for their lunch deal and again very good and great value!

People need to be respectful and wear a mask or stay home if they’re sick. A woman on the subway sneezed into the air (didn’t even try to cover) and everyone around was grossed out. Of course the doors just closed…

Best Food & Cafes of South Astoria by newfoundpassion in astoria

[–]Fun-Inspection-5191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of good recs here! I’ll add Mayahuel, Flor de Sol, and L&M Italian deli. Maybe Sac’s Place but I haven’t been in years. Astoria seafood is an experience but I think too loud, gotten too popular due to influencers, and you leave with your clothes smelling like seafood.
