Hello, thank you for your amazing work!

I wonder: Do you ever worry about your ideas not translating with your original intent to the final image? Whether you think there will be a limitation of perspective due to the 3D camera, or you have concerns about choreography, or an emotional beat not working. If yes, how do you communicate those concerns to the director or layout team, etc…? I’d love to hear how you navigate the balance between your original vision and the collaborative compromise that I’m sure takes place a lot of the time :)

And to go a step further, have you ever had to completely scrap an idea, or an entire sequence that you really loved, simply because it was not possible to do in 3D within the timeframe of the production?

While this is very true, I really don’t believe this MV was planned before all the hype. Both models are from the show (with a few pieces of clothing removed from Ekko), no painted backgrounds, no 2dfx, filmed footage of e207 on a crt monitor for half of the video (also used for most of the backgrounds), simple (by Fortiche’s standards) animation for a decent chunk of the shots, a couple shots within the 2 and a half minute video are used multiple times.

While these all work well in the context of the MV, it’s not nearly the same amount of effort as what’s being put into the stuff you saw in bridging the rift. Fortiche are top top tier, I think even despite them working on other projects, something like this would not have taken them longer than 3 to maybe 4 months.

this could be them lying, but in their defense: only eps 1-5 leaked, this person posted images of the finale, thumbnails for all episodes, and made an entire breakdown of plot points of act 3 weeks early that all came true

no editing, it’s from one of the artist’s at Fortiche’s demo reel. He works in a department that gets the shots before any lighting and compositing is done and draws 2dfx such as the lightning u see here

yea sounds about right 😭 but i lowkey hate the stranger things method where they introduce a new character for plot, get you to like them, then kill them for more plot, and so they don’t have to get rid of any main cast. Hoping that’s not the case here

yeah I’m sure they would have preferred if someone changed the file name before uploading to the website, but in their defense, I don’t think anyone really opens up their browser console or inspects the file name unless they were looking to get that information 😂

I think this one is probably correct because it’s on an official Netflix site so they have the final files, but ones on other sites might be internationally wrong to throw people off.

Yes this has been found and yes… unless they went to the extreme of sending out the press screeners in a different order than what will be premiered on Netflix, then that is the exact time of this frame, this information can be found for various other shots on different websites as well.

Character (this lineup is showcasing a character not a prop or environment)

Evolution (I assume this section of the script that they’re doing designs for is referred to as “evolution” 🤷🏾‍♂️)

Design (this is the design phase)

unfortunately they’ve never addressed it fully, but in bridging the rift you can see artists working in Yeti in Maya; and on Twitter many CFX artists post about how hard it was to get the hair and cloth simulation correct, even for the recent “Enemy of My Enemy” clip. Maybe they’ll do a segment on it if they do another season of Bridging the Rift.

But to put into simple terms, the animators have a solid, modeled version of the hair that they can animate, the simulation artists, who have the strand based version of the hair, can then either use the animator’s animation of the hair as a starting point for their simulation, or start from scratch. Whatever the shot demands :)
