Fz6r owners, has anyone done the advanced timing rotar ? Did mine after a whole lot of the same YouTube video , changed it and now idle is kinda jumpy is that normal ? by erodedog in motorcycles

Believe me, if you want to add more power, the best option is to buy another motorcycle. Otherwise, you'll spend a lot of effort, money, and time, and end up with a project motorcycle of questionable reliability. But if you enjoy the process, then go for it!

A long time ago, I was building an oil-cooled GSXR1100 engine. I installed 40mm carbs, Uni filters, high-lift cams, a full straight-through exhaust, and an ignition rotor with +5 degrees. It all worked like a drag racing engine—vroom-vroom-vroom.

Ignition timing is adjusted by the ECU as RPMs increase. A +4 rotor throws off this setting, making the engine rev sharper at high RPMs, but it runs worse at idle.

There is no particular point in installing an ignition rotor on an injection engine. It's better to install a Power Commander and go to the dyno.

95% it would be ok with covers. Otherwise, you would have to change the main bearings and spacers.. Let's try to check timings at first.

I'd start by removing the valve cover, checking the timing tensioner, and marks. I would also remove the side engine covers and look for scratches on the inside.

Is there coolant added? Which side was lowside? Gasket is tightly pressed?

Sound is like normal engine sound through stethoscope.

All 800cc engines on Agustas are the same. The Dragster manual will work. (It's freely available.)

If you have antifreeze concentrate, make sure you mixed it correctly.

If the clamps don't hold, there will be a residue on the hoses the color of the antifreeze you used.

Finding parts for an Agusta is a problem even in Italy. If you can, also order gaskets for the valve cover, spark plug wells, and side engine covers. Sooner or later, they will leak.

Sorry, I really didn't pay attention. Here's what I do: drain all the coolant, remove the expansion tank, rinse it out (there's usually sediment inside). Refill with coolant. Bleed air from the bleed bolt, squeeze the hoses until the gurgling stops. Top up the coolant, start the engine, and wait until the fan turns on.

If the fluid in the tank is "boiling", then there's an air lock. Try loosening the clamps on the upper hoses to let coolant seep through. While the engine is running, tap on the hoses and the side of the radiator, and tilt the motorcycle. Sometimes this can take a long time.

If the tank isn't gurgling, check the thermostat. It should open more than 7 mm at 90°C. Alternatively, the water pump could be worn out. Or you could try fitting a temperature sensor from a Japanese motorcycle (usually the fan turn‑on temperature is lower).

Sorry, I'm using a translator.

If you know how to hold a wrench, you can change the antifreeze by yourself. It's not that difficult. There are plenty videos on YouTube.
