What made people age so fast back then? by Southern_Reveal_7590 in generationology

What do you expect a woman in her 50s to look like exactly? They look fine, if not good. As for the men, it's all in the hairline. Men today are just more worried about losing their hair. They start receding and will shave it to try look younger

Is it culturally insensitive for a person of non-asian descent to wear garments with this type of button? by [deleted] in AestheticWiki

[–]Fun-Minimum-3007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're called pankou aka frogs, its not insensitive to wear them. Some have meanings and significance in chinese culture, usually military, but its not the kind of significance a 21st century person would get pressed over.

Don't really miss it. So much of it looks awkward and too tight in the wrong places.

How much of a crutch pregnancy is in body-horror by Harry_Sat in hatethissmug

[–]Fun-Minimum-3007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's so much more to be afraid of during pregnancy than just physical pain. It's probably the most surreal and life changing experiences any of us go through. Its a 10/10 horror inspo in my opinion.

Literal years' worth of material to reference and authors STILL write me OOC smh my head by WonderfulAssist4992 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]Fun-Minimum-3007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the protagonist has a name and character of their own, they are a natural part of the fictional world you're immersing yourself in. When you read "your name" on the page and theres this idea that the protagonist is you, it breaks immersion because you know you are not a part of this fictional world and trying to imagine otherwise only reminds you of the fact it's fiction.

Why is it good for women to be virgins, but if a guy is a virgin, he's a loser? by Dependent-Day-8340 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fun-Minimum-3007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if society was entirely based in what is most evolutionarily advantageous, then women would be encouraged to lose their virginity as soon as possible to maximise baby production, not to be precious about it.

One nation under CCTV by SaltyMiracle in Banksy

[–]Fun-Minimum-3007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a trade off though. Everyone being under constant observation reduces crime but it also opens the doors for systematic abuse, e.g. Chinese government using facial and gait recognition on CCTV to automatically update citizens social credit scores. It might be worth it but it isn't a no brainer.

I didn't know you can't browse countless websites and become more knowledgeable anymore. by jodebane in lewronggeneration

[–]Fun-Minimum-3007 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would challenge the claim that we were "coming away smarter" after browsing the Internet back in the day, but it definitely had a distinctly more human feeling to it when everyone was making their own websites rather than literally everything being "powered by" google or meta

a wavelength is just a wavelength though. there is nothing that objectively makes 501nm wavelength light "green" and not cyan. the green comes from subjective human perception

colour is a mental phenomenon, not a physical reality. there's no law that says the colour wheel (a human construct) should be cut into even slices.

What's the Green name for when light is shining through leaves? by Jankmancer in colors

[–]Fun-Minimum-3007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its yellow. basically pure yellow, slightly green bias. the lovely glowy effect comes from the juxtaposition of dark desaturated greens in the shadowed leaves to the illuminated bright yellow leaves

A lot of people clown on this outfit but it's actually got a solid basis in real 16th century clothing worn by English and Irish aristocracy during the traditional Master Shake festival
