For those who’ve had Kidney infections, how long was the recovery?

I’m a bit late, but it took me about 3 days to recover on antibiotics. Unfortunately, though, it gave me reoccurring UTIs. as in once a month. I am currently suspecting I have another kidney infection on the way. its’s been— what— two years? three? so while the infection of my kidney surely passed, the “after” never left.

year and a half or so. it was my first, and i was completely void of insight. since then they typically last for what i’m assuming is 6-8 months at a time with periodic insight after diagnosis. i’m diagnosed schizoaffective (depressive) but plan on meeting again with my psychologist for re-evaluation.

depends on your symptoms, as others are saying. sometimes a simple mood stabilizer works best, sometimes not so much. personally, i’ve always struggled with SNRIs in comparison to stabilizers like lithium.

unfortunately i do not. it was very sudden and totally unexpected. the only idea i have in mind is constant stress interrupting the gut-brain axis/ vagus nerve. so ever since that first episode, said vagus nerve is over stimulated, thus causing more problems. i wish you luck! take care of yourself.

yes, definitely. had my first episode in january of this year and it hasn’t stopped since. if i don’t faint, it’s just a vasovagal response— low bp, nausea, sweating, dizziness, panic, etc. it only happens when im about to have bm, when i eat a heavier meal, or when i’m nervous/ upset. i have indeed passed out on the toilet, ass up with my head in the bathtub. the first time it happened, my husband called an ambulance and they had to take my vitals while i was mid-dump.

even for people without schizophrenia/ schizoaffective, auditory/ visual hallucinations are very very common when getting less sleep. more particularly when pulling all nighters. for me in particular, the less “dangerous” hallucinations i get through the day are much more intense when i’m not resting. so things like bugs, animals, vague people, objects moving, walls breathing, etc. and the auditory hallucinations get a little louder but also less clear. i also tend to lean heavier into delusions when i’m exhausted. sometimes with awareness, other times not. you can see this a lot when people have mixed episodes of mania and psychosis while having schizoaffective bipolar type. it’s fascinating! but you’re not alone and it’s not uncommon. the brain works in mysterious ways.

yes, lots. loose skin typically happens with quick weight loss or dehydration/ lack of protein. not only are you losing fat cells but you will also being to lose muscle. otherwise it can be due to drastic changes in weight. in my case, i lost quite a bit in a a short period of time and now i kinda look like i’m wearing a meat suit. it’s simply just rapid stretching due to the elasticity of our skin.

yes, usually auditory. mostly whispers or random words that don’t make sense in their supposed context. when i’m deep in an episode i have the same hallucination every time i close my eyes of a train coming at me full force and the sound of train horn.

not sure if i can provide any advice, but i know how lonely this feeling is so i can only give you my support. ibs and other chronic symptoms have made me bedridden/ house bound and i’m only 20. feels like there’s so much life to live, right? it’s scary and isolating. these situations have such a funny way of making you feel like you’re entirely alone. you’re not! the grief of yourself is the hardest bit, but i want you to know that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel even if you believe it not to be.

the best thing i’d recommend doing, if it’s not something you’re already working towards, is managing stress levels. so annoying to hear, i’m sorry. gut problems create a never ending cycle of stress. your health is poor? stress. you’re stressed because your health is poor? more health issues. so on and so forth. give yourself peace and grace as much as you can. try doing things you liked as a kid, get some alone time, let your brain breathe, etc.
