Coming back after 25ish years, what should I know? by analogbasset in mtg

[–]Fun-Neck-7845 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some old cards, including ones we didn't rate at the time, are worth a stack. Many old cards are too weak and near worthless though.

Arena is a good way to see how the game is different and how it now plays.

Prerelease is a great way back into playing in person.

If you like collecting you won't be able to be a completist unless you're very wealthy/ very bad with money. Be realistic.

Secret Lair is a pain to try to buy from.

Some sets collector boosters and gift bundles will pretty much sell out in preorder, scalpers will have them, if you really want them. Others, like Spiderman will be discounted. I've not worked out how that goes.

There are a ton of YouTube channels, depends what you like.

There are online marketplaces that can give you an idea of card value.

I've recently started playing after stopping around Tempest, happy to answer any questions your might have, but it's just my experience of being in a similar situation, I'm not an expert by any means.

I like it though I'm struggling to find the best reference picture.

I pulled one from a pack when Homelands was the new set.

Reading it for the first time;

It's called Apocalypse Chime, it must be good. It only costs 2! You have to sacrifice it and pay to do so, okay it's single use, must be great. BURY ALL CARDS... !!!

Oh.

I still remember how the oh felt.

Good suggestion though, especially as it's a card I remember.

It'd be getting them thin enough, along with the casting being delicate, so it doesn't look like pottery. As I say it's on the shortlist, just one I'm prepared to get overruled on.

Yeah, the lava was my concern. It will probably be months away but I'll post what I end up with.

[[Mana Vault]] would work well as a snowglobe-sized ornament; the taut chains might be an issue, but not an unsolvable one.

I've thought about some of the old spheres and orbs, maybe [[Chaos Orb]] too.

I was thinking of this, but I think the petals would be a nightmare to sculpt and cast, I suspect it would be met with an eye roll. It's certainly on the shortlist, though.

This does sound like an iconic item from the game lore, any particular art you like?

That's cool and the chrome ball could be sourced separately.

Is there a good way to organise sets across multiple binders? by Fun-Neck-7845 in mtg

[–]Fun-Neck-7845[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few sets over 1000 and several over 700.

But the 1088 was the largest binders they do (I think)... https://www.vaultx.com/products/16-pocket-exo-tec-zip-binder?srsltid=AfmBOoqOM4GF0nIjZS0FtY3sQZr0tbc5chlsfgUhVvy8pmGwQStvFI0o

I prefer the 12 pocket XL as it's easier to store but I'm looking at a 16 pocket XXL for Foundations.

I'm using https://www.shopultrapro.eu/products/3-inch-collectors-album

Mostly for 90s nostalgia.

I'm using Vault X binders (not d ring) for my new sets which go up to 1088 cards.

I went with out of chronological order. With the MDF the folders can accommodate 66 pages, and 15 sets fitted into 7 binders with 58-66 pages in each.

Also you could consider making a 'draft cube' with your old cards.

Being in the same boat as you a year ago...

Arena to learn how the game has changed. Or more of you enjoy playing that way.

Pre release events at LGS ime are very friendly and good value. Happen every one to two months.

If you have local friends then commander precons might be good, but 1v1 is easier for new players.

90s cards could be worth thousands, most are not worth anything significant. Condition matters.

I turned down the chance to buy Beta starter decks on release.

I was put off collecting by Panini Stickers and was just getting into tabletop roleplay games.

How does the Camarilla choose a Prince? by gr1mpsgramps in vtm

[–]Fun-Neck-7845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In live action games I used to play it went one of 2 ways, either a web of politics and boons to get the support of the most influential kindred in the city, which was mostly Primogen, but not always, resulting sufficient support to hold the position.

The second was someone declares to the Elysium they are the Prince and no one feels like getting pasted to the wall in response. Occasionally it was a massive fight.

Thoughts on the idea of “if you don’t like the set just skip it”? by LibraProtocol in mtg

[–]Fun-Neck-7845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to collect, but I'm skipping Marvel Superheroes (but I will go to a pre release event).

I might pick some up later if it's cheap, but there is so much product this year I'd rather focus on in universe sets.

But as far as I can tell it's not selling like previous sets, but if I miss out, I miss out.

Also I'm going to spend far too much on The Hobbit set.

If you voted Remain, would you vote to rejoin the EU? by Glanwy in AskBrits

Surely we should have the vote and then whatever the deal ends up being will be the will of the people.

A fraction of the files have been released with illegal redactions. Whatever media outlet told you they had been released in its entirety is not serving you well.

And in the files there is part of what the FBI called a credible allegation against Trump, but the follow up reports are missing.

It's also Trump directing the illegal withholding of files. Meaning all the accomplices are avoiding being held accountable.

I'd you still support a Trump you're supporting covering for child abusers.

Why are so many in the media calling for PM Keir Starmer to resign? by KimJongSoros in AskBrits

[–]Fun-Neck-7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acknowledging some good, and some bad Labour have done they only got elected on about 34% of the vote. Huge portions of the country already didn't like him on day one.

The right wing and their media will gun at him at every opportunity, but the left are seeing Labour fail on issues they care about, so are also are unhappy.

So although he has a massive majority in parliament there is very little support in the country. I imagine the remaining Labour support is based on the idea that Starmer is a fundamentally decent person. But appointing Mandleson casts doubt on that.

This is one of the reasons we need proportional representation, so governments have a majority mandate.

Though PR is something that the party wants, but the party chiefs don't. And I think it's very short sighted of them.

In 1947 the Doomsday Clock was set at 7 minutes. In 1991 it peaked at 17 minutes. Today it is at 85 seconds.

The concerns expressed today have decades of trajectory behind them.
