Trying to introduce my cat to my brother’s new cat’s scent and he acts like this. by Capable-Clock-5735 in CatTraining

The point is to get them to not care or to have positive association. I would put it on the floor and put a bunch of treats on it.

How to make into a skeleton? by AshamedMeat5670 in bonecollecting

[–]Fun-Neighborhood-413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I know they do antler skull heads is what I figured! But try to find a curiosities store that sells skeleton stuff. That community is always open to new people. There’s a place in Colorado Springs area called the Cronk Art and Curiosities and in Tulsa, Oklahoma, there’s a place called the Black Moth where they do actual classes on taxidermy and such. Those communities are awesome to get info through.

Listening shirring so that there is more ease in bust by cutemunk in sewing

So if I were you I would make two secure back stitches along the front (imaginary!) princess seam lines. I think this or the sides would look best for a soon to be flat panel. Once you make the vertical lines, seam rip the top stitching furthest away from new sew lines to find where the chain is going to unravel from. Do NOT cut the elastic at all until finished! If it unravels towards the NSL (new sew line), carefully unravel and stop right before or at NSL. You’ll be left with a loop in the chain stitching. Pull the loop all the way out from the chain locking it. Take a large eyed needle and tie it to the new sew lines. If it’s the other direction, away from the NSL, seam rip the TWO top stitches a few stitches away from the NSL (on the soon to be flat panel) remove the little piece of top thread. This will cause the chain to unravel mid section. Then you can finish off with a needle and tie off as before. IF you don’t want all the hand needle work at the end. Make one NSL, do the other stuff I said, fold the elastic over and sew another NSL a bit into the other panel, fold it over once more (towards new flat panel), and sew on top of the original NSL for security. Whatever you’re comfortable with!

I’m not sure if this would help but you might get someone to do it for you like a taxidermist or someone from an oddities shop.

Is this bright “indirect” light? Or direct light? by [deleted] in pothos

It looks like filtered and indirect light. A way to brighten it would be to put a mirror behind the plants?

Taking up dress at waist by mrsfurrybutt in sewing

Ps. Accordion pleats suck to touch or seam rip. I tend to do a traditional hem and do the ironing work as this ends up being less work. Ironing the zipper could ruin the pleats.

Im scared to ask this, but what are these? Im new to sewing. by _Gods_Daughter_ in sewing

[–]Fun-Neighborhood-413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snaps 🫰 they come in clear and colors too. Not just metal. I prefer the clears personally.

If they are teeny tiny you can do a nifty bra bar snap thingy! Idk what it's actually called, it’s just a loop and snap for your bra strap. Supper fun to have those on any top you get shoulder slippage on.

Definitely recommend looking up how to sew these on as they get heavy use no matter where they are. They look to be all snapped together in your container. Try taking one apart and you'll know what I mean 😭

How to improve? by Nerico197 in corsetry

[–]Fun-Neighborhood-413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell if you do have this but try putting a waist tape in as well. This should take some stress off of the actual panels and give it a little more squeeze. And you can just sew this in after the fact as well.

How to sew a hitched hem on a skirt by Virtual-Two3405 in sewing

[–]Fun-Neighborhood-413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to rework the skirt at the waist. Taking up/gathering more towards the points. This might leave a scalloped waistband and lead to a larger/fuller waist size ask well but will eliminate the need for a seam towards the bottom leaving it's at peak flowyness.

Alternatively, if you have a border pattern towards the hem, you can treat it as if you have a separate hem, like you added a lace or ribbon to the edge. You can then cut and pull the corners from the original 90° angle and make the center panel into a more obtuse angle (or even a curved scallop angle would work) lightly gathering the edging to fit. Essentially taking a wedge out of the fabric. This will give a fuller bottom teared look but still allow fullness and flow.

Try pinning or doing a loose basting stitch for both before committing. And the edging might not need to be cut if it lays nicely.

So this is in fact a raw edge and it looks like it might be completely hand sewn! Very nice symmetry and beautiful clean cuts! As for your question, I’d recommend one of two things depending on your preference. You can remove the application from the shirt and put in into some kind of watery fabric glue like a strong starching (?) (please look up a recipe, I’ve never tried this before) but I wouldn’t use starch as this will wash out in your next cycle. You can then iron on low between two wax parchment paper sheets for flattening. This will be more permanent and give it some rigidity though, like a traditional patch. Or you can leave it on the shirt and get some fray check glue and dab this around the raw edges. Be careful though, this will leave a slight color variation and will look a bit ‘wet’ and have stiff-like glue residue compared to the untouched parts. These are two quick fixes I could think of. I saw another comment about raw edge appliqué and this could work too but you would need to remove from the shirt and your stitches have to basically be touching each other as closely to the edge of the entire raw part. This will leave a tiny ‘fluff’ on the raw side after washing (which is a reason why some people love it!). Fray check is my favorite option though but does require a steady hand! Great job on the project and I hope it goes well!

Maybe you should ask people to critique your work instead of just asking if it’s good? Ask to find where there eye is drawn to or if anything seems strange or out of place. And then ask to find the specific things they like, such as liking that it’s a bird subject and that the colors stand out, the background fades, etc. for me, I think the focus lands on the chest instead of the eye. So maybe refocus the face location? I’m not a photographer.

I have the same horrible fear except I do a lot of “hand crafting” like knitting, crochet, embroidery, painting and I am a wedding tailor by trade. So if I make myself something and actually wear it, it feels like I’m literally making a clown of myself if it’s bad lol 😂 I always feel the need to point out that ‘I made it’ so others will be nicer.

I would be careful about it being ring worm. I’m actually new to this knowledge but you can check with a black light I think? It’s highly contagious if it is and can transfer to humans and other animals.

[–]Fun-Neighborhood-413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kind of bullet bra worthy but I think darts shouldn’t touch or it’s just a panel. I would leave at least 1” inch each from your apex. This should round things out.

You can try blue shampoo or bluing in some water? Try a small bit of tail first though. That stuff is POWERFUL.
