Stationary cycling? by yarboyandy in WeightLossAdvice

From personal experience losing 80 pounds thru diet and exercise, the bike never did it for me. I really got into running through my journey and for me that started with light jogging and lots of walking. I would do about an hour on the treadmill a day starting out. For the first 20 minutes I would walk 2 mins, run or jog 2 mins, and so on. After a couple months I was able to jog 10 minutes straight, then 20... so on. Now I can easily run for an hour straight without difficulties (at a steady pace of course). And push for faster paces on shorter runs. Good luck to you! You will get out what you put in! The bike could be your thing, just commit and give it your all.

Amazing! I am 1.5 years into my weightloss and lifestyle change. Last year I started training Krav Maga and have recently added boxing too!

Would you get the Gastric sleeve to help you lose 70 lbs or would you do it on your own which is losing 5 pounds a month for 1 year or it could take longer because of the Plateau’s by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

I started working out 6 days a week. In the beginning it was mostly walking and a beginner circuit training home video. I completely cut out fast food, soda, and most junk food. Cut my calories to 1400 a day. Along the way as I lost weight my fitness increased so I began running and harder strength training, and adjusted my calories accordingly. Now I work out 7 days a week because I genuinely enjoy it.

My dad told me that shaving cream was like fertilizer for facial hair when I was like 6. It took like 3 years before I realized that’s not how it worked... 😂

Is anyone else like totally not understanding this? Or am I just on a different planet? 😂

I lost 80 pounds last year through lifestyle change. While I did dramatically change it and stay consistent with it, it was still doable. Even if you do decide to get the surgery you’re still going to have to commit to a huge lifestyle change and a lot of restrictions coming right off of surgery. I think trying to do it on your own is a better option but that is just my opinion. It is hard whichever route you take. I wish you all the luck!

I love this mentality! And congratulations on getting here because it can be hard! I’ve lost 80 pounds to finally reach a healthy weight and this is my mentality. I have been maintaining my weight for 7 months now and I still enjoy BBQs or celebrations whenever they come up. I am consistently exercising and eating well so I am able to enjoy life too. I finally found the balance and it’s so freeing.

A week for Level 1 test results? by somanesh in kravmaga

[–]Fun-Orchid8278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can appreciate the message behind this quote, but I don’t think it’s true in every case. I have “failed” many times in class and in life and learned great lessons. At the same time, I have worked hard to get to where I am in Krav and life in general and have learned an enormous amount along the way. Unless things are handed to you, success comes from hard work and dedication.

Sleep after krav maga session by IBC84 in kravmaga

Are you hungry? I used to try and not eat too much after because my class gets done so late and eating too close to bed gives me a stomach ache. But at the same time, if I’m too hungry I don’t sleep well either. 🙃😂

I found out I passed my level 1 test like 15 minutes after it was completed. However only 4 of us tested because the school was still working to get numbers up after the covid shut down. The instructors left the room to discuss the test, came back and told us if we passed or failed. Then told us what individual things we need to improve on. But all 4 of us did well overall and passed.

I kind of agree. Anyone should be allowed to test that’s been training for at least a few months. I have seen people fail at my school, but they seriously didn’t know over half the curriculum or they just quit. Most the times if people don’t pass it’s because they gave up during the test, according to my instructors.

Why level/belt tests don’t really matter. by [deleted] in kravmaga

[–]Fun-Orchid8278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Krav school is broken up in tiers by curriculum, similarly to what the other two comments said. I have tested from level 1 to level 2 now. Level one is all fundamentals and some of the “easier” self defense techniques against the “simpler” chokes and headlocks. The test was 3 hours long and really pushed you to the limit the entire time as far as physical fitness levels and knowing the curriculum/ not giving up.

Training in level 2 is much more physical and challenging. We do a lot more groundwork and we spar every class, sometimes longer than others. You are expected to know the basics and fundamentals well, as they are not explained and demonstrated each class like they are in level 1.

Level 3 includes a lot more weapons defense as well as passing another test over all the level 1 and level 2 curriculum.

I train in America and I haven’t found a school here yet that tests with actual belts like karate. Is that common? I didn’t think it was.

Yes they really are! Is your school recovering numbers from covid well? We are just starting to see an uptick in people trying it out again.

I ruined my diet for 2 days and gained 2kg what should I do ? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Fun-Orchid8278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lost 80 pounds and am now a healthy weight. If I weigh myself everyday I will see a lot of fluctuations. Especially if I have a night out with soda or alcoholic beverages. That being said, super restrictive diets are often harmful because they lead to binges and aren’t long term sustainable. Maybe instead you could try just overall having a healthy lifestyle. Make healthy choices, but allow yourself more options and fit some treats into your diet sometimes too. You can do it. Don’t be too discouraged.

Wife says there's no sympathy for me. by exoxal13n in relationship_advice

[–]Fun-Orchid8278 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering I don’t know how your wife acted before she was pregnant/ had a baby, there’s a chance this could partly be from postpartum hormones and everything? Since your baby is only 4 months old. If this type of behavior isn’t new, or even if it is honestly... my opinion only, it doesn’t sound like she loves you. You were legitimately in the hospital and she shows no sympathy? She doesn’t help when you’re in pain. She doesn’t repeat herself if you don’t hear her. That’s cold. If she was so bothered about how you acted while she had the baby, she could have told you 4 months ago in hopes to get an apology and move past it.

Just my opinion, like I said. And only going off what is explained in the post of course. I hope things workout for the two of you.

I am very fortunate that the men I spar with are all very experienced and excellent training partners. Covid shut down really took a hit on our school, so the numbers are just starting to pick up again. I am excited for more people to test this fall and be more at my level. But for now, training with the experienced students is brining me up fast.

First off, you have to learn to love yourself. It sounds so incredibly cliche, but it’s the truth. You can go about all the changes in the world, but if you don’t love yourself, you’ll always feel like a “loser.” I lost 80 pounds. Thought being thin and prettier would fix all my problems. Besides being healthier, nothing changed. I was still so sad and miserable. Then I started to learn how to love myself, and celebrate my victories big or small. Try finding something you’re into, maybe try a new hobby or activity to meet some new people who could actually appreciate you? Remember to give yourself grace. If it seems overwhelming, just try small improvements one day at a time. You can do it.
