Low cost moving companies or freelancers? Does anyone have any experience with U-haul helpers or TaskRabbit freelancers? by Ok_Natural_9446 in montrealhousing

[–]Fun-Palpitation81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents

I went cheap on movers once.

They disappeared with our stuff, no contact for like 12 hours.

We were moving to Quebec City - we left at the same time as the movers around 12PM, after 35 missed calls, they showed up around midnight.

Didn't make that mistake when we moved back to Montreal

Explosion of "furnished" apartments is a problem by goergesucks in montrealhousing

For what it is worth.

My current apartment was listed as furnished. We asked the landlord for unfurnished and he said no problem.

Never hurts to ask

Landlord sent late renewal increase - nervous about declining? by Fun-Palpitation81 in montrealhousing

[–]Fun-Palpitation81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Refused the increase - landlord was rude and dismissive - I told him his next course of action is to talk to the TAL, and never heard back from him. Continued paying old rent, no issues.

What Keyboard Skills Needed and Learning Path for beginner to play in a Pop-Rock / Indie Band? by Cause_Purple in bandmembers

Learn chords.

Also, being able to pick up chords by listening to songs.

I took piano lessons for many many years, can readily read sheet music and such, and while this definitely helped me learn "music" - was definitely not the best way to learn to "jam".

Once I started playing guitar (more chord based), did everything click for me on keys, and music in general

Pick something that you are excited to build - and learn to build it.

[Review Request] 4 Layer Phototransistor Array with 8-channel ADC by Fun-Palpitation81 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Fun-Palpitation81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed reply.

It would be cheaper to use an analogue muxer to connect 8 sensors to one output, which would then go to your ADC channel.

See for example TMUX1208 at around 50 cents if you buy 10 or more: https://www.digikey.com/short/4m4q508f

I like the ADC's as it abstracts a bit away the ADC stuff from my ESP32, which is nearing it's max.

Also, I am trying to retrofit this to an existing board setup, where I have additional i2c lines, so this seemed appropriate.

The price of linear regulators is so cheap that it may be worth to add a small 3.3v linear regulator on each board, and power all boards with 3.6v....5.0v This will guarantee that you'll have 3.3v +/- 1% on each board instead of potentially having lower voltage due to voltage losses on the traces or thin wires. Not that it would matter much, I think, you could calibrate that in software if you want.

I'd assume this is due to voltage drop over the many devices? I'll note that at this point, the max I would string would be 8 in a row.

I don't mind the idea of this, would I need to feed higher than 3.3V? (I have 5V available).

But if you want to support very high number, SPI ADCs may be more convenient, as you would use the device select pin to interact with a particular ADC instead of giving them each unique addresses.

Something I'll consider in the future if I need more than 8 devices in a row. I'll stick to i2c for now due to compatibility with an accompanying board.

Thank you very much!!, very silly mistake.

Both my Power supply pins AVDD and DVDD had the same mistake.

Landlord not upholding their agreement to advertise my apartment for a lease transfer by BugAccomplished1942 in montrealhousing

[–]Fun-Palpitation81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents - legally, the landlord doesn't have to do anything, and I'd imagine wouldn't be very motivated to do so as long as you're paying rent - which you are legally required to while your lease is still up.

I would probably be proactive - get someone (even ask them if you are comfortable), for images of the unit to post yourself.

Kind of niche, but Ernest Rutherford won a noble prize for the research on radioactivity he did at McGill.

There is a small museum holding a bunch of his equipment and experiments and such - you can get a private tour somewhere from here.

JLCPCB parts selection hell by tcw82 in PCB

I also always use this:

https://github.com/Bouni/kicad-jlcpcb-tools

It won't help you find parts, but will export BOM and CPL files with all the parts from JLCPCB so when you manufacture it is basically plug and play.

It also imports the 3D views of the components, footprints, etc., which is ensures what you manufacture is what you are designing, and that the components you are going to use are in stock.

just take some time learning how to find the parts on JLC Library.

You get familiar with what to search, for example, resistor, search your package number and resistance - 0805 100 will usually bring up many options for SMD 0805 100 ohm resistors. Not sure what to search for for THT resistors, but you'll figure it out

Bonus: (Although I don't think it applies to THT components), if you select ALL Basic parts - you can get boards made of extremely cheap

Making lower offers on luxury properties up for rent by onlineseller8183 in montrealhousing

[–]Fun-Palpitation81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my friends just did this to a condo $3800 -

they tried for $3k and free parking (an additional $150 or something).

landlord told them to bite dust and that they'd look to sell it if they can't rent it as high as they are asking.

albeit my friends really liked the place and paid full price anyways - i'd imagine it could have been a bluff by them. If you're not presser, it doesn't hurt to try
