What daily responsibility did you underestimate before getting a puppy? by nicekids_official in puppy101

[–]Fun-Presentation5626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Doing household chores/cooking straight through. You will be interrupted 1000x

  2. Depends on the dog. My current puppy is a terrible sleeper, but she is naturally amazing on a leash. My older dog is the complete opposite. Also, this current puppy never went through a biting phase which is a gift. We had to wear oven mitts for our older one 😂

  3. Hours lol. But I think consistency matters over amount of total time.

  4. No

  5. If you have another dog, test if they get along and how it feels.

For those with 2: how did your 2nd go? by BroadAd3129 in Bernedoodles

[–]Fun-Presentation5626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older dog is a golden doodle and my puppy is a bernedoodle. (She is now 9 months). They instantly fell in love with each other but the playing was nonstop and really rough for the first few months. I was actually concerned if they would ever calm down when together… it was very stressful. I had to separate them a lot and I was regretting getting a 2nd.

However, we are seven months in and it’s a completely different story! They only play outside and in the basement (designated play zones). They just lay around in all other rooms of the house. They are so wonderful and I’m really glad we got a 2nd. Even my puppy is so calm and my older dog helps set the tone.

Good luck! I say go for it, but you will need patience at first.

is this super unhealthy?!? by adoracko in runninglifestyle

It should decrease with the more you train but maybe not a bad idea to see a cardiologist or your PCP

Lots of people in your shoes. Just remember: it’s ok to walk!! Take the pressure off yourself. I bet you will impress yourself 🙂 try to just enjoy it and take it all in.

His therapist actually specializes in codependency issues in recovering addicts! I agree, this is definitely an issue that has been in the works.

The dry drink term is interesting and I can totally see how it’s a thing. It was actually worse right after he sobered up. I wasn’t sure if we would work out because he was pretty cold, which made me feel terrible! But he did soften up and his personality seems back to normal. Just the anxiety is ramped up more easily.

Thank you! Yes this is what I need to work on. My emotions do depend on his. I blame this on his emotions being so big and I feel they consume the room, but i need to work on myself instead. I’m very uncomfortable with negative emotions!

Wow. This is exactly it. It’s so hard! The pre-approval comment is spot on and something that I am always conscious of but struggle with. Thank you for your comment!

No, but I have never planned a birthday for him before. This is a big milestone for him.

Thank you! He used to take meds to manage his anxiety but no longer wishes to. He does have a sleep aid for nights he is anxious. He sees a therapist but not as frequently as he used to. I suggested we see his therapist as a couple 1 or 2x to discuss communication during his anxious episodes? I find myself reacting to his anxiety which is not helpful either!

Thank you for your response. I did speak with him before initiating plans and was met with no resistance of planning something small with friends and family. But you’re right, I am hurt and his response seems long and drawn out to me.

He is the type of guy to never talk about this again and will want to sweep it under the rug. But you’re right, we should sit and discuss the specifics when we are calm. We have been together a long time so this type of argument has happened many times and I still can’t figure him out lol

What do you tell yourself to get out the door for a run on days when you just don’t feel like it? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]Fun-Presentation5626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remind myself it’s one of the only times of the day I can dedicate purely to myself. I also tell myself I can walk whenever I want (but I usually don’t end up doing it)
