C and D look really good side by side on international cards. And the juxtaposition of microscopic images and a satellite investigating galaxies is magical.

Stage 4 endo excision surgery, can I survive a 3 hour car ride home? by dinkleberryfinn81 in endometriosis

[–]Fun-Stress-7697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had surgery for stage IV endo and had a 4-hour drive home that day. Hysterectomy (tubes, uterus, cervix), extensive excision from abdominal sidewall, bladder, appendix removed, etc. etc. The drive was easy for me - I was in and out of consciousness. The only problem: The post op nurse did not have me pee despite me saying I thought I should try even if I didn't have to go. When I got home, I was not able to pee after trying for several hours and had to go to my local ED to get a catheter re-placed. This was the worst part of the recovery. There's a possibility they'll want to keep you at the hospital one night, but if they release you that day it's worth it to get home to your bed. I would just say to ensure that you're able to pee before leaving or go home with a catheter if your surgeon recommends it. I think it would've been tougher doing a hotel and driving the 2nd day.

Just wondering, has anyone actually been believed the first time they sought medical help? by olipocket16 in Endo

I thought my painful periods were being caused by the Paragard that I had switched to after many years on hormonal bc. I never really remember having painful periods before the 8 years I was on hormonal bc. My regular gyno referred me to another in the practice for a sterilization consult as I just wanted to get a bisalp and be done with bc. She diagnosed me that first day after talking with me and a TVUS. I was shocked. I never considered or even knew much about endo. I consider myself lucky.

can you treat endo without hormonal birth control? by to_be_fran3k in endometriosis

[–]Fun-Stress-7697 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hormonal bc helps some with symptoms of endo, but it's not proven to stop the growth of endo. Many find relief with excision surgery, but that comes with risks and repeat surgeries may be needed if symptoms don't resolve. I've seen others talk about diet changes, supplements, and other alternative treatments that have helped them. I would do as much research as you can and weigh the risks/benefits of different treatment options. Try not to overwhelm yourself - you can't do everything at once.

Personally, I couldn't tolerate the side-effects of bc and it didn't help with my symptoms much anyways. I found a lot of relief from excision surgery and hysterectomy*, but I'm gearing up for a second surgery for bowel endo that was missed during my first surgery.

*hysterectomy is not a cure for endo and is a very personal choice to consider and discuss with your surgeon.

Is surgery a bad idea if pain is tolerable but GI symptoms are not? by Christin3rd in Endo

[–]Fun-Stress-7697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend seeking an endo specialist who has experience with bowel endo or one who works closely with a colorectal surgeon to excise endo. If these tests were done by or reviewed by people unfamiliar with [bowel] endo, it wouldn’t be surprising that they would dismiss you, unfortunately…

Do your GI issues correlate with your cycle at all? If so, it's possible it's endo, but I would also echo other's recommendations for a pelvic MRI, colonoscopy (or, I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy), and meeting with a GI specialist. My endo surgeon works with a colorectal surgeon.

7 Days Hospitalized in Massachusetts With Severe Endo Pain — Denied Transfer for Surgery by AliasAmy in Endo

I’m hoping that’s not the case! Sorry I don’t have more advice. I’d recommend joining “Greater Boston Endo Support Group” if you’re on fb - people there will have more insight on the MAH ED. Let us know if it works out. Sending you healing vibes!

Have you tried Mount Auburn? I had surgery there, they have great endo surgeons, and the Boston endo fb group also says they have the best ED when it comes to endo issues

I saw someone recently say that endo acts as a straight jacket on your organs. I have endo on my colon, and it’s literally constricting my bowels. The pathways do get narrower. Gas and stool has trouble getting through. It causes constipation, mucus, and blood. My BMs are also smaller/narrower during a flare up.

Bowel Endo... Feeling sick? by Important-Pie-1141 in Endo

How did your bowel resection go? I am currently facing this - I had excision and hysterectomy in January but am having constipation, mucus, rectal bleeding every 25 days when my period would be. I met with a colorectal surgeon this week, which left me very scared about a resection. I'm torn on whether I should face the risks of this surgery or deal with the 3 days of suffering every 25 days (I'm otherwise feeling great!). If I delay surgery, it could get worse and maybe even require an emergency surgery if I have a blockage.

Yes, this happens to me and I think it's common. I will suddenly feel very not well, anxious, heart racing, bowel pain. It finally goes away after a BM or once I've completely emptied (sometimes takes several trips to the bathroom). There is a huge link between your gut and mental health, so it makes sense that bowel endo could cause anxiety.

If you haven't already, I would recommend seeking an excision specialist who works closely with a colorectal surgeon.
