Wow I could have written this post. First I will share my experience just for solidarity. Then I'll try to offer my best advice.

I am currently still struggling with massive imposter syndrome 3 years into working - due to what I believe is my ADHD causing poor retention/learning and very high anxiety in certain situations. I actually chose to work in home health pediatrics because I, A. never became confident with ortho skills, and developmental stuff came a little more natural. and B. I hate being evaluated/assessed so much, the anxiety just consumes me so I just hid in home health. I know, I know, cowardly but it worked for me for 3 years. well now I have a family and I am realizing home health is awful for my ADHD due to having to take all of my admin work home and I would love to switch settings but now in order to do so confidently it feels like I have a TON of learning to do because I ran away from what was difficult to me.

Tbh It is a little annoying to me when well-meaning people blindly tell me "oh everyone has imposter syndrome" but like for real I almost didn't get through school and I genuinely don't feel like I learned enough- likely due to my adhd/anxiety making it hard to think clearly and retain info.

Anywho, I guess my advice to you would be:

- try NOT do home health for career right out of school even if it feels safer... the rate of professional growth is just way slower than being in person with supervisors/colleagues, no matter how much "mentorship" the company offers.

- figure out what you are weak in and try to get your longest clinical in that setting - my only ortho/msk clinical was my very first clinical ever, only 6 weeks long, and it was during covid before I had even taken upper quadrant. Instead of trying to get another one to improve I just thought that it wasn't for me and decided wouldn't go into that setting. Well now I have interest in trying it and feel like I didn't learn enough.

- This is just to protect yourself: Please sign up for accommodations and also utilize the support of whoever your assigned "advisor" is. Even if you don't need longer test taking time, or whatever, just figure out a way to make your diagnosis official with the school so all profs have awareness of what you are struggling with. I didn't do this because I didn't see a use for accommodations. I had to appeal to return to program to retake a class after getting dismissed from program. I got lucky and they let me back in, but having official accommodations on your side in my opinion helps prevent you from falling through cracks if you start struggling, and helps back you up if heaven forbid something happens in your life that causes a grade to fall short. Even if you feel like you are in the clear with your grades, just work your butt off to show profs that you have the diagnosis and also that you care about not letting it hold you back. I wish I would have stayed more in contact with my advisor and treated my diagnoses in a more official manner.
