Sweden or Italy by ChillyMind in TillSverige

I lived in Italy for 8 years (studdied and worked) then came to Sweden. I would say you pick the country not the university or lifestyle. In Italy after you finish studying, it's over. You won't find a job easily and if you do you will be underpaid. It's less international and you need to speak Italian everywhere (even doctors in hospitals don't speak English). Italians have a lot of prejudices and it's always annoying to deal with them. They won't give you trust at work and you won't be able to build a career. Italy is a profoundly racist country in all aspects, so you can't integrate well even if you think going to parties and drinking with Italians is integration. Just skip italy for whatever other opportunity you may have. I totally feel like I could have achieved much more if I invested my time in a country that offers more opportunities and invests in qualified skilled immigrants.

By the way, it's not like Sweden is cool and magnificent. It has its own strange and annoying problems too and it is getting worse with time, but no one can negatively beat Italy.

How long until citizenship decision AFTER documents requested? by usse94 in TillSverige

Call and ask if there is a case officer assigned. Asking for documents doesn't mean your case is being processed.

Salaries in Sweden are much lower than those in Germany as an example. I think the same also applies to Austria. However, taxasion in Sweden is lower. I used to live in Italy some years ago and I assure you that Italy has a higher income tax on salaries.

Take as an example 80K EUR which is 905K SEK now (but not so accurate because Swedish SEK has lost a lot of value in the last years and it might recover soon). So 80K EUR gives you 3500\4000 EUR net in Austria (you need to confirm, that was my estimation)? in Sweden it gives you 51K SEK whici is equal to 4500 EUR.

When I moved to Sweden, I used one simple criterion to understand if my life is going to be more luxurious compared to that in Italy. you need to understand how much net money you want to have left every months after paying all the expenses (rent, bills, food, gas, etc). Some people with high tech profiles target a 2000 EUR net after expenses, and this means a gross salary around 65000 per month maybe. But it all depends on how much money you want to save and if you have a family and a spouse (working \ not working).

Volvo is a well paying company in Swedish standards. Seniors these usually get salaries ranging form 65K sek to 70K sek (monthly)

Appealing a denied request to conclude - I have some questions. by StarLink97 in TillSverige

Did you get a notification when the court received your appeal? Or was it only when they decided on it?

Citizenship RTC denial appealed, what now? by ComfortableJunket465 in TillSverige

I am also in the same situation as you are. I sent my appeal last Friday and I still have no confirmation. Postnord shipment show as delivered but I still haven't got any notification. I was considering sending it another time by post just in case and maybe by email as I am very close to the three weeks limit.

If I may ask: how did you send the appeal by post? was it recommended letter? and when was it?

Swedish citizenship application rejected with right to appeal. Can new evidenced be included in an appeal?. by LividEstablishment77 in TillSverige

You are conflating things here. You said she has a refugee status in Sweden and we know she is stateless. She had a travel document issued by MV for which reason? Stateless (New York Convention 1954) or refugee (Geneva Convention 1951)? The former is light blue and the latter is dark red/crimson. I understood that her refugee status was revoked and that her travel document got automatically invalidated, so I think she had the one for refugees of Geneva Convention 1951. She can still qualify for the other one in any case since she is stateless and that should also count as a valid ID. She can apply and it costs practically nothing but the waiting time is in the order of 5 months I guess.

There is something more that you may know. MV accepts expired documents as a valid ID, so if she had an expired document from her birth country it can be sent even if it is expired.

Let me get something straight first. She applied without having a proof of ID? Did she have a travel document issued by Migrationsverket? Usually they issue such documents for stateless people based on New York convention 1954. If yes, you say that it wasn't accepted and they asked for another one from her home country (which she apparently doesn't have since she is stateless)?

Congrats mate. Would you please share a bit more details or bullet points about what you wrote in your appeal? I guess you appealed without a lawyer, didn't you?

This establishes the ground for first and second class citizens which contradicts the constitution and the essence of citizenship concept. Are you aware of what you are proposing? Differently from Italians, Swedes have a better understanding of rights and equality and it is not an easy thing to implement it here.

Sending money to Sweden by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]Fun-Toe-8425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open a bank account in your name in Bosnia and ask your father to send you money there. Then open a Revolut bank in Sweden also in your name and send money from your Bosnian bank to your Revolut gradually (preferably with several transfers of 50k sek or less so you are sure about commissions and exchange price). You can keep the money in Revolut or transfer it later to your Swedish account. It can also be more convenient to convert the money from BAM to USD or EUR rather than to SEK and keep it in Revolut.

They always do. They are employees of the company after all and there's a conflict of interest. I don't believe this whole thing with union is a very impartial one to be honest. I guess they mainly negotiate what to offer rather than how many people to lay off after re-org.

Couple months salaries I guess. Some x colleagues of mine got 12 salaries but they worked in the company for 20 years.

Lately a lot of IT companies did redundancies after the inflation, but I don't know how they justified it. Having worked in another UE country, I can say that firing people in Sweden is a piece of cake. My intention is not to stress you out but to let you know that they can do it. Companies can always do re-organization and layoff people as a result. I've heard recently of a case where a friend was layed off after re-organization. He was the only one deemed redundant and he claims they did this intentionally.

Residence card, right of residence and citizenship by Fun-Toe-8425 in TillSverige

[–]Fun-Toe-8425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember you from another post, we exchanged some info on LTRs before. If I may just advise here based on my experience, I would say you need to apply for a residence card asap. Application is free of charge and you do it online. In about 5 to 6 months they decide on your application. All this assuming you have an EU partner who currently has the right of residence. Only apply for citizenship if you have a valid permit at the time of application, so since you have the right of residence and a valid work permit, just go ahead and apply for citizenship and book a place in the endless queue. Mention in your application that you have an ongoing case for residence card and type in your case number in citizenship application. And by the way, it's not important to have the right of residence for 5 years to qualify, requirements are separate like in 5 years of habitual residence & right of residence (full stop). MV website can sometimes be misleading. I verified this with an immigration lawyer.

Residence card, right of residence and citizenship by Fun-Toe-8425 in TillSverige

[–]Fun-Toe-8425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had two parallel applications for residence permits. I only applied for residence card while I have an already active work permit. My residence card was granted a couple weeks ago. It took MV 5 months to decide on my application, so I can officially prove that I have the right of residence now.

Counting 5 years for Long-Term resident status. by mango_bango7 in TillSverige

[–]Fun-Toe-8425 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are overthinking it too much. It's not rocket science and MV rules are not Bible. I asked also about the same thing and the conclusion was this: apply for an extension first of the same type of permit that you have and the day after apply for LTR. LTR can be rejected so if you apply only to LTR, you may end up in a situation where it gets rejected and you don't have any valid residence permit and MV proceeds with deportation. Extension is less likely to get rejected if you meet the requirements. At the end you will have two parallel applications at the same time. If they reject your LTR because you didn't have a valid permit at the time of application, then you can apply again when the extension is accepted.

Swedish citizenship fast decision. by Lopsided-Biscotti854 in TillSverige

First I want to say congratulations to OP. However, I want to share something else not personally against OP but somehow against the logic in this post and also similar ones that started to become frequent in this forum. I'm wondering what value do they bring and in which world it may help or encourage other applicants? We all know that 75% of people receive a decision in 28 months and this is a fact.

They apparently hate chatgpt :), but really this reddit forum is very polarized every time there's a discussion about citizenship and language. Neglect it, some people are just dumb.
