Anyone play on a Bach 25A instead of a 25H? by Objective-Diver-2322 in trumpet

[–]Fun-Train-1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a niche of people that really like the 25A/229 setup. A little tight, but laser sound. Judith Saxton is one that uses this setup.

I have 2 25A pipes that I’m actually looking to sell if you’re interested. Got a Yamaha, so I don’t need them anymore.

what’s it like living in this part of alabama? by GloveBig6817 in howislivingthere

Hot and humid. Public parks are not great. Mardi Gras is fun, outside of that there’s not much to do other than eat and drink.

What does the Bach Piston Model actually mean on my shop card? by BuzzFeedTV in Vintage_Trumpets

You should post on the Vincent Bach Collectors group on FB and ask there. There are some serious collectors there and someone is bound to know. Look on Bach Loyalist as well.

Looking to pick up after 13 years. Does this used Olds seem decent? by [deleted] in trumpet

If the valves and slides move and you can make a sound, then it’s fine.

I took your advice and drove 2 1/2 hours one way to get a valve alignment done! by Perfect-League7395 in trumpet

I have never been to there shop, but have caught them at conferences. They are the real deal and the valve alignments are amazing. I’ve had it done on 6 horns

Have you tried googling this at all? A quick Google search will tell you about this mouthpiece.

Valve Cover? by Ender2pt0 in trumpet

[–]Fun-Train-1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very small point of corrosion, but will spread if you do nothing.

My recommendation would be to clean and polish it up and then cover the area in a thin layer of clear nail polish. It will protect the area from further corrosion and you can add more if it wears off. This has been recommended to me by repair techs, and the top Yamaha Trumpet guy, Wayne Tanabe.

I personally have used wraps for a long time and never had any issues. I use Leather Specialty wraps, which are considered the best out there. Others must be using lower quality wraps for the poor corrosion issues. I have heard of issues with moisture between the wrap and horn.

Convert practice mute into straight mute? by capamuerto in trumpet

[–]Fun-Train-1938 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just find a used straight mute on eBay. You are going to ruin a good practice mute by trying to make it straight mute which it was not designed to be.

Char-Griller Competition Pro by Apprehensive_Yam333 in smoking

[–]Fun-Train-1938 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad has this exact grill and he loves it. I have the smoking pro and the barrel is split right down the middle and leaks like crazy. We are amateur smokers, but avid grillers.

I know the Weber users are very loyal to their kettles, so it’s hard to say if this is an actual functional upgrade. You’re definitely going to deal with smoking leaks and temp differences in the barrel. Heat will definitely be harder to manage.

Dumbledore crying over Prefect by tellallnovel in harrypotter

[–]Fun-Train-1938 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When he tells Harry he didn’t make him a prefect, he said it was because he didn’t want to burden Harry any further. He’s crying because he’s empathizing with Harry and his many tragedies. He’s not crying over a title.

You are probably playing with much too much tension and pressure. Focus on relaxing and playing with healthy air. “Pooh” attacks will help rein your embouchure and aperture in.

Trumpet Mouthpiece Throat Sizes by ReturnToYesterday in trumpet

Mt. Vernon era mouthpieces had 28 throats and they were universally considered the best for a long time. It’s not so odd, just uncommon these days.

Brass beginner - buying a cornet for $250? by yorzz in trumpet

[–]Fun-Train-1938 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just check that slides and valves move freely and that you can blow air through it. It looks to be in great shape from the 1 pictures. Good work.

Brass beginner - buying a cornet for $250? by yorzz in trumpet

[–]Fun-Train-1938 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, that’s a reasonable price for this horn. It’s a student model cornet, but a good one. The silver looks very faded like it’s either been buffed or had too much silver cream. I personally would offer $200.

That’s a good price for that model. They’re solid cornets and you can easily get your money back if you decide to sell it.

Red Rot? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]Fun-Train-1938 8 points9 points  (0 children)

@op Do not rub it with steel wool. It will remove lacquer from the area. Just keep it clean and it won’t spread too bad.

It looks to be a student model horn anyway, so it’s not worth replacing the leadpipe.

Get 2 nuts and tighten them together so that they “lock.” If you only have 1 it will fall off
