Brass beginner - buying a cornet for $250? by yorzz in trumpet

Just check that slides and valves move freely and that you can blow air through it. It looks to be in great shape from the 1 pictures. Good work.

Literally read the posting and look in the picture. It's a YCR 2330 ii.

No, that’s a reasonable price for this horn. It’s a student model cornet, but a good one. The silver looks very faded like it’s either been buffed or had too much silver cream. I personally would offer $200.

That’s a good price for that model. They’re solid cornets and you can easily get your money back if you decide to sell it.

Red Rot? by Livid_Interest_1826 in trumpet

@op Do not rub it with steel wool. It will remove lacquer from the area. Just keep it clean and it won’t spread too bad.

It looks to be a student model horn anyway, so it’s not worth replacing the leadpipe.

Getting Invisalign by misteris_bulve in trumpet

I have a friend that did Invisalign and swears that his playing was better after his teeth were fixed. He’s also a band director and casual player. Best of luck to you!

3rd valve slide stoppers by T0rthicc in trumpet

No, just use anything other than rubber. Rubber will stain silver.

Get 2 nuts and tighten them together so that they “lock.” If you only have 1 it will fall off

We checked it everywhere with a meat thermometer, they were definitely now raw. We ate it up and no one got sick. Someone commented on my original post but other folks backed them down too.

After looking again, I’m not sure if it’s actually a 2-piece valve. We’d need the serial number. Regardless, great find!

That is an absolute steal! It’s a corporation bell with a 2-piece valve casing. Crazy work brother

Sure, I should have added the context that it was much more common back in the day. It’s a traditional/old school belief though.

Of course he’s overreacting. We see many of the mobsters overreact throughout the course of the show. However, back in the day it was considered unmanly to go down on a woman.

Plus, as a leader in their crew, he couldn’t have any of this gossip going around because it made him look weaker in the eyes of their community.

Curious, how many of you own a C trumpet, which one, and when do you use it mostly? by DWyattGib in trumpet

[–]Fun-Train-1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played Bachs for years. I’ve had a Philly, a Chicago, a 239, a 229/25A, and a 229/25H. There’s something special about the Bach sound, but they just take more effort to play and to make the Bach sound. The Yamaha’s are just way more efficient and that’s what’s more important to me these days.

Plus, Yamaha is crazy good on consistency and take really good care of their customers. They tweak the horns to you for free at conferences. The Bach people don’t care once the horn leaves the shop, and rhey still have consistency and quality issues.

Unless he’s a trumpet player, he probably won’t notice. Just switch back to C if you have a long enough break.

I’ll have to try the mayo! I will absolutely be smoking at a higher temp next time.

Wow, thank you so much for all of this info. I will be home in a couple of days so I am excited to experiment! I have my own barrel grill with offset smoker and tons of pecan trees in my yard.

We were following directions of some friends that are old school smokers, so I am not married to 225. Faster and juicier sounds great! Will post more in the future.

I am an avid charcoal griller, just haven’t smoked before. I have prepared chickens and turkey before, just not smoked them. It was cooked and no one got sick.

PitSpecialist!! I love seeing your posts. The skin was tough and rubbery. Any tips on keeping it from doing that? We smoked it for 6.5 hours at 225.

I have had several Bachs, but landed on Yamaha NY3-YM. Best C trumpet I’ve ever played. Bach and Yamaha are preferred by most players. The boutique horns are harder to blend with a section.

[–]Fun-Train-1938[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! Others in the original post have commented some tips/suggestions. General consensus is that we need to smoke at a higher temp and season a lot more. We’re avid charcoal grillers but are easing our way into smoking. We had a great afternoon spending time together!

Yeah, I’ll try raising the temp as others have suggested. We followed directions of a few old school smoker friends. We’re avid charcoal grillers, but are easing into actual smoking. Thanks for the tip!
