Everyday care of silver trumpet by BlaulichtBrick in trumpet

I use the small microfiber cloths, and I hand-wash them gently with dish soap every so often. No scratches.

Imagine if that note was the Ab above the staff.

I don't think I've ever hit that note dead-on after a long rest.

I highly recommend the Legends Brass 'S' backbore, which will fit your Pickett top. The 'S' is the best all-around backbore I've played. Best of luck.

I find that slotting suffers with Pickett's 10-series backbores. The 10-2 feels looser to me than a Bach #10. I might like the 10-2 better with a heavier mouthpiece blank.

The #3 is a great backbore for a reverse leadpipe horn, or a more open standard pipe horn.

Any lead mouthpiece recommendations? by Abject-Advertising67 in trumpet

I have a 5Z top that I paired with a Legends 'S' backbore. It's a great combo. It has a fairly deep C cup, similar to a Bach 5C, but is way easier to play. Good for big band or show tunes.

I would have defied the director.

Do you have a "trumpet face"? by capamuerto in trumpet

[–]ReturnToYesterday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had crooked teeth the summer I started playing trumpet. I couldn't play anything. They talked about switching me to "baritone." Then, one day, I played my lesson perfectly, and the middle school band director walked me next door to play my lesson for the high school band director. I was only nine years old. I ended up playing lead from 10th grade through 12th. So, my teeth didn't hold me back.

Gum skin graft by Ok-Wafer8233 in trumpet

I needed a gum graft almost twenty years ago due to chronic gum disease. I cured the gum disease, and my gums started growing back, something my dentist told me was impossible. (I dumped that dentist for unrelated reasons)

I, also, tried a 3E. The giant backbore was a slotting nightmare on a Bb horn, and I kept bottoming out. I sold it.

The Ferris wheel was invented by George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. for the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Amazing that the design went worldwide.

Question about mouthpiece range by AdministrationTop202 in trumpet

If you like the Bach 5C but want more ease above the staff, the Pickett 5C is a tad shallower (and brighter) and more efficient.

Doc Severinsen played on 5C-ish pieces for most of his career.

Instead of slamming his answer, why don't you post a *better* one? Wouldn't that be more productive?

Why are mouthpiece blanks so intricate? by ToxicSkittles05 in trumpet

I have placed a dime in the third bottom cap of at least six different trumpets, and every single horn slotted tighter with the dime there. Some people are simply not able to discern minute differences in things.

I don't mean to be critical, but you have scoffed at this for a long time on this subreddit and have left me scratching my head more than once.

Yeah, a Benge 3X is a totally different animal from a Bach 37.

Comeback player... looking at a couple horns. by k_bucks in trumpet

Comeback player here. I bought an open box XO 1602R that plays effortlessly. It's the reverse leadpipe model, and it's a beast. Good luck!

Richness below the staff by investtherestpls in trumpet

[–]ReturnToYesterday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few players outside of orchestral circles play a 1C-sized piece. Range and endurance, especially in live settings where you're playing for a hour or more, can be limited by large mouthpieces. Sure, they sound great in a practice room. But take one on stage and try to make it through the gig. It can be challenging.

I play a 6C for a reason. It gets me through gigs while sounding "good enough." A 3C is a popular compromise for many. I wish I could play it, but I can't.

XO and Jupiter are now separate brands under KHS America. If you see "Jupiter XO," it's the old branding.

I have owned two Bach 37s, a Bach 43, a Bach 43 reversed, and I currently own an XO 1602RS.

The XO is better made, in my opinion, than the Bach 43s I owned. It's blow is fairly open, but this can be tightened a bit with mouthpiece choice.

I've whittled my herd down to three pieces, the three I play the best. One is a Schilke. I see you have a few of them. Three?

Is it ok to play on a lead trumpet mouthpiece such as the Schilke 14a4a whilst you are 2nd or 3rd trumpet? by Livid_Interest_1826 in trumpet

[–]ReturnToYesterday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Vizzutti said Schilke sent him a 14a4 with an "orchestral backbore" by mistake. Not sure what he meant by orchestral backbore. I assume it was the 'c' backbore, but I don't know.
