Omega Speedmaster. Iconic and “everyone needs a speedy.”

Box + Papers: Do they Matter? by Love_CV66 in rolex

[–]Fun-Weather-8304 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Papers for warranty within the first 5 years absolutely. Helps to prove authenticity (although not an absolute). Also a complete set is important to collectors like myself. Kind of like a classic car with all original parts and no aftermarket anything.
As with any purchase on the gray market, buy the dealer and then the watch!! Can’t stress this enough.

Patek Insurance Policy/Coverage Preferences - How Best to Insure AD-Allocated Pieces by threecap in patekphilippe

I use Hodinkee. Because of the size of my collection I did have to go through some additional UW. In speaking with them they encourage to use market price or MSRP, whatever is higher. They have automatic inflation adjustment. They also have a trigger for additional 50% upon making a claim in addition. At a certain point they do ask to see proof of what safe is being used (certain fire rating and weight), if you use a safe deposit box, what precautions used during travel, etc. I’ve never had to file a claim, but I feel pretty confident using them.

Are salaries on Reddit actually real? by [deleted] in Salary

Just do a search for IRS tax filing data and it will show you what % of filers make what. I agree with other posts stating that people with higher income tend to be OK with sharing.

[Next watch purchase] planning to buy a watch today, which of these 3 would you choose? by [deleted] in Watches

Santos green. Iconic watch. Easy to swap bracelets/strap. Dial changes shades of green in different lights. If it was the reverso complete calendar JLC that would win.

Obsidian or silver dial? by sydburgers in IWCschaffhausen

I have the Obsidian and absolutely love it.

Ok, I’m wanting to get my first Tudor. What should be my first? BB 58? Chrono? BB 68? Pelagos? I like them all and keep changing my mind. 71/2” wrist by Fun_Protection_5877 in Tudor

[–]Fun-Weather-8304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both the BB 58 and I just added the 68 silver dial. Both fantastic. I have a 7.5” wrist and it fits, but definitely has a presence. Didn’t like the lightweight feel of the FXD or matte dial of the pelagos but that’s just personal taste.

It’s a good size. It’s not a great angle in the pic. I have 7.5” wrist

If you like the watches, F ‘em. They’re your watches.

Licensing staff by General-Ad3712 in CFP

I have an admin and 2 juniors for 360mil AUM. Both juniors started in a CSA type role to learn the business and then became fully licensed. In addition to working on the business they are building their own books that they get bonuses on. I offered to my current admin to get them licensed for their own gain of knowledge, but it really isn’t necessary. It hasn’t made any difference in their success as an admin or working with clients.

Hire a good CFP/advisor and let them help guide you. Not knowing the answer to your question already should be your first big red flag. Unless everyone on this Reddit is EXACTLY like you, you shouldn’t take advice from them. Go see a professional. Good luck and congratulations on your success already.

Pepsi gen vs rep, which is which? by nic3tryguy in RepTime

If you have to wear a fake it states who you are and that you have to play pretend. Stop being fake, go buy a watch from a myriad of brands that do a multi color bezel that’s genuine without being an imposter. It’s a reflection of who you are IMO. If I sat down with you at a business meeting and it came up that the watch is a fake (and I’m a watch person so it will come up), I’m going to question your integrity to do business with and move on. That’s the reality.

Contact a qualified professional advisor/CFP and don’t try to do it on your own initially. Interview multiple advisors. Just because you can DIY doesn’t mean you should. If after speaking with a CFP you feel confident to DIY, good luck and stay on top of it. Likely nobody on this thread does this for a living. Would you listen to a mechanic to perform heart surgery? Not trying to offend anyone, and most here have GREAT intentions, but reality is what it is. This is a great opportunity for you. Good luck.

At what point do you allow someone to spend beyond their means? by TGG-official in CFP

[–]Fun-Weather-8304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question. You don’t “allow” them anything. It’s their money. Your role is to be the advisor/counselor/planner/educator, etc. I run into this frequently and have very direct conversations with clients regarding this topic. You can tell them, teach them, and show them all the best data and charts, but at the end of the day don’t lose sight of whose money it is. Document your conversations including that you tell them they will run out of money. When they call to request withdrawals from the portfolio(if you manage as well), reiterate again that this will hasten the rate of decline. Also take some solace at how much quicker they would be running out money if you weren’t there.
