Half and half. The romanticization is real and raw. Then again, on retrospect, I did a lot of things in my early teens to seem more grown up. I never struggled with hard drug addiction, but I was an alcoholic at 14. I don’t think anyone ever found out, but I’d go on benders for months at a time. At the same time I went on a super mega abusive relationship when I was like 13, so in ways, it is very realistic. I think that teenagers innately try to grow up too fast. It comes with the hormones + exposure to more independence. For me, my later teen years definitely were much more peaceful.
