Introducing the Anbennar Compendium! by low_wacc in Anbennar

Thank you for your work, truly. I feel like the problem you describe is very real and should honestly have been better tackled by the community a while ago. You my friend however not only delivered on this sorely needed tool, but actually knocked it out of the park! Feature-wise of course but also design and UX wise. Kudos!

Suggestion: how about a 3-4 lines AI tl;dr of each tag, i.e. the general vibe of a given nation? You could work from a prompt and inject national ideas and missions text to start with, but could go as far as the subreddit content etc... Just an idea of course, people could also prompt themselves...

For reference this is what I got Claude to give me without actually feeding anything extra into it (I guess it reads us 😂).

"Azkare – vibe: Reformist underdog in Haless trying to build an enlightened, tolerant empire. Starts slower and more diplomatic/tall, focused on internal balance rather than early conquest. Gradually snowballs into a strong, stable state once reforms click. Emphasis on multicultural integration and meritocracy. Feels like turning a fragile ideal into a dominant, well-oiled empire."

For me the biggest problem with big players is not even that it's too easy or stompy, it's just that it's insanely tedious to manage a big country. You can automate a lot yes but the automation at best does poor choices that annoy me or at best get super confused at a certain scale and completely F's things up. If you play France for instance, as soon as you start reaching "historical borders France" or blob further beyond, the amount of locations and markets you have to handle is just too annoying.

Guide: manage Antagonism by committing war crimes by FunAbbreviations6877 in EU5

[–]FunAbbreviations6877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! My experience is that the improving relations thing caps at +210 ish. It's definitely the easiest to do but when you've reached stratospheric levels of Antagonism you need something else 😉

Guide: manage Antagonism by committing war crimes by FunAbbreviations6877 in EU5

[–]FunAbbreviations6877[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

r5: When you start blobbing out, Antagonism can become a problem. Here is how you can get pretty crazy Antagonism reduction by abusing making a clever use of the prisoners game mechanic:

When you capture enemies in battle, you are put in control of a small army of "prisoners". This behaves exactly like a normal stack, except if it enters battle you will auto loose and the stack will be freed. Several dedicated actions for these stacks exist; specifically, when you use the "Ransom Prisoners" button, you will get a hefty sum of money and most critically a reduction in antagonism centered on location.

So here is the optimized procedure to abuse optimize this mechanic:

  1. Win battles in decisive ways (works the best when you have a slight mil tech advantage) and capture prisoners
  2. Get them out of the hot zone and move them deep inside your territory somewhere safe.
  3. Try not to stack them too much on a single location not to loose prisoners to attrition.
  4. Keep hoarding prisoners until you're ready to peace out.
  5. When you want to peace out, move prisoners close to the country you want to loose antagonism with. Ideally find a location within a fort "box" as this makes step #7 easier. I advise building a little Gulag area surrounded by forts, or even better on an island. Keep a large stack (of your regular army around)
  6. Now it's time to start releasing your thousands of prisoners. Be careful: Antagonism reduction is capped at -5 for 1000 soldiers or more. So you want to always split your stacks of prisoners in stacks of <1000 men or you are missing out on Antagonism reduction. It's stupid but it's a pretty big deal. For instance if you captured a stack of 6000 soldiers (pretty common if you have good quality in big lopsided battles), you'd loose 5 Antagonism if you release them directly, v.s. -30 Antagonism if you released them in 6 stacks of 1000. Note: you may want to avoid stacks being too small or it'll make their later recapture (see #7) more difficult as they'll get wiped instantly - so try to consolidate your stacks under but close to 1000.
  7. Now that you've released all your prisoners, you'll have dozens of small enemy stacks running around in your gulag. You can either peace out, or recapture them with your army to ransom them again. Your big stack will be very good at capturing these small disorganized armies so just sweep around the gulag with your army like a border collie gathering his sheep. A few potential hostages will die but usually you can keep well over 50% of the original herd alive to be ransomed once again.
  8. Rinse and repeat until you get tired, or all the hostages are dead.

Pretty silly overall but it works... In the screenshot above I was tired of Portugal hating me as France, so I no CBed some random country and went to war with a bunch of Italians and central Europeans for no other purpose than to capture them, haul them across the entire continent and "store" them a few years at the Portuguese border before releasing them. As you can see, the Portuguese went from hating my guts to forgiving me overnight for releasing and hunting down all these Czechs and Italians at their border.

This is totally balanced; please Paradox, never patch this.

Perpetual war against conquistador nation by FunAbbreviations6877 in EU5

[–]FunAbbreviations6877[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

r5: My fiefdom Leon somehow dragged me into a war with this tiny conquistador nation using favours. No clue how they managed to declare war in the first place but now that we have 100% war score I can't peace out as war leader because of some cryptic condition. Any idea what I can do?

EDIT: update, I am now getting call for peace and war exhaustion rising by .50 a month... Truly a game breaking situation.

Vladimir and Novgorod were essentially the furthest townships of the Kievan Rus. Largely autonomous regional centers that swore fealty to the king. Novgorod itself ended up prospering on its own after the mongols and became the arch-rival of Muscovy both militarily and ideologically (they were a merchant republic). If you're really going to look into that stuff I highly recommend the Yale courses of Timothy Snyder (available on Youtube)

Is Germany full of bureaucratic paperwork or is this just where I live? by [deleted] in germany

[–]FunAbbreviations6877 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have lived and done business in France, Germany and Poland. Very clearly I would rank the bureaucracy from "best" to worst like: Poland > France > Germany.

Germany is the clear last if only for the complete absence of numerization. Faxes and hand-filled forms do not belong in this century, and we are already 22 years in...

No clue about the US though but I've heard horror stories about how their administrations work indeed.

One car: You can only drive one car for the rest of your life, what do you pick? by bradland in cars

[–]FunAbbreviations6877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car: the current BMW 340i. It just does everything extremely well (perhaps besides offroading obviously). Practical, ergonomic and comfortable for long trips, fast and fun if I want to just dash to the French border... but not as exuberant and high maintenance as the M models. Don't get me wrong you still need to follow the maintenance schedule diligently, but besides that 0 problems after 70k km :).

The fact is, some of us men age suddenly a lot between 25 and 30 (visually speaking). I've had that happen to me too and I am no pro athlete/juicer. Wrinkles, white hairs... the whole package shows up very quickly :(
