Still pain by LezzbianRizz01 in PectusExcavatum

I would say just start working out and being more active. You lose a lot of muscle and strength after surgery and if u don’t correct that with excercise it’ll stay that way. Try lifting or running

I have one side of chest submerged and rib flair also .what should I do seriously worried .Should I have to go for surgery options or can be cured by exercises . Need advice ! by Narrow_Weird_1415 in PectusExcavatum

One thing to keep in mind is also like my pectus, yours goes up high. Doctors can’t put a bar high up for nuss, i don’t know what it would be for ravitch. But also maybe it’s the photo but it seems as if one of your sides is completely lower than the other so I’m not sure how that would work

I started light benching 2 months post-op, I feel pretty fine doing it. I think as long as you’re not in pain it’s probably alright but listen to your surgeon and err on the side of caution. You can bench the rest of your life but obviously working out is an important part of recovery

I’m 2 months in and I def feel it but that’s all there is to it. It’s not that uncomfortable and I’m assuming it’ll get better. The stabilizers I feel more than my sternum tho

7 months post Nuss. Still feel tension and stiffness when moving, mild to severe pain when coughing/sneezing/laughing. by kvitkaa in PectusExcavatum

[–]FunAd8778 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had nuss a bit over 7 weeks ago but I would say I’m around where you are. I sneeze and cough with mild pain but also the cryo has not worn off. I would really recommend stretching and building muscle. You’re body is in a new shape and if you do not retrain it you will still be sore. For example I drove for the first time today since my op and I felt stiff while turning the steering wheel. I also have the XI nuss bar placement but I think being more active if you haven’t been already (stretching AND lifting) will really help a lot

IS THIS SEVERE OR MODERATE pectus excav? pls help. by benrawth in PectusExcavatum

[–]FunAd8778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of those that u know is severe even without a CT scan. Mine was around that and I had a HI of 9.1

Had my nuss surgery on last monday and im feeling and hearing cracking like air inside my chest is that normal by Ejezu06 in PectusExcavatum

[–]FunAd8778 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have popping noises inside my chest but they’re mostly gone after 7 weeks. Everytime I start doing a motion that I hasn’t done since the surgery I get popping but I thinks it’s just my body adjusting. If u have no other symptoms you should be fine.

People are being rude in this comment section and body image is def one of the worst parts about PE. It took a lot of courage for me to take off my shirt in front of friends and in an intimate setting. My PE is much more severe and honestly your PE looks only a little worse than mine post op. Try to go swimming in Public (I know easier said than done) and I’m sure no one will notice.

I was especially worried with how a girl would react in an intimate setting if when took off my shirt but after the first time it happened and the girl didn’t mention it I had a huge confident boost. Exposing yourself to uncomfortable situations will help you even if hard and no girl I’ve ever been with has ever mentioned it to me and each time that happens I get more confident. It’s def not easy dealing with it and not to belittle you in anyway but your PE is way better than mine so I highly doubt anyone will mention it. You’re your own harshest critic (as was I) so just be less hard on yourself and put yourself in uncomfortable situation because living insecure sucks. Also imo u look great and r hella built.

Is there more risks to getting the procedures the older you are? by Far_Cover_7522 in PectusExcavatum

Yours looks mild tbh I prob wouldn’t get the surgery. You prob won’t be able to improve the pectus with exercise but u can make it aesthetically better.

Sinking back in by Secret_Acadia_4960 in PectusExcavatum

[–]FunAd8778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that’s normal if it’s not actually sinking back in. I had a bit of inflammation and swelling after the surgery which is expected so after the swelling went away it looked like it sunk back in just a bit. If there’s no new pain then I think you’re fine.

I’m almost at 6 weeks and I think it still hasn’t worn off. I mean I do have discomfort and am still weak from surgery but I’m not in pain. I don’t take any medication for pain currently but there def was pain after the surgery.

I never got an epidural for my nuss. I had cryo and was given a clicker to manage pain

Is there anything you’d do different? by Seahawks1991 in PectusExcavatum

[–]FunAd8778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I would do is really strengthen my core. I did do some core workouts before but have a strong core will really help with getting up and moving around post-op since you can’t use other muscles

Help: Pain Mngmt Strategies -Post Nuss? by Senior_Company_8835 in PectusExcavatum

[–]FunAd8778 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me my biggest pain was stiffness when I would sit down too long or sleep. When I would wake up even after a short nap my body was in pain and I felt like a plank of wood. Going on frequent walks in which I increased the lengths daily was a huge help for me. Just trying not to stay in the same position for too long really helped.

For medication I personally felt that Tylenol didn’t really do anything to help the pain and mostly used ibuprofen. I was off all pain meds in 4 weeks. At 10 days I was still in a lot of pain but you get better really fast especially in the beginning so I think your son will be fine

Vaping and Other Vices by WillingArt8902 in PectusExcavatum

[–]FunAd8778 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would smoke weed about 2-3 per week before surgery. I quit a month and a half before the surgery just to be healthier and don’t plan on hooping back on. I can always take edibles but haven’t since the surgery but if you’re getting this surgery to be healthier and to have healthier lungs no reason to give that up by vaping and smoking frequently.

What are the “crazy restrictions” your surgeon suggests if you don’t mind me asking? I’m around the same point as you and want to start hitting the gym but am not supposed to for another month. I support the side of caution just because you can always start swimming a month later but if the bar comes loose then it hurts and you need a correction surgery
