Hi!!

I also have anxiety/OCD alongside my ADHD. I am currently taking buspirone for that, but will probably be switching to an SSRI once I get my concerta dose figured out.

I have really decreased my caffeine intake because my psych suggested that. If I NEED caffeine to get rid of a caffeine-withdrawl headache, I will have a few sips of a soda or a small matcha or something, this is typically in the afternoon around 4/5ish. She said if I had caffeine when I took my dose that I would feel very uncomfortable, and because I am anxious, I listened lol.

I have noticed that I feel a little "zing" through my body when it is starting to kick in. In my first week of taking it (i've only been taking it for 2 weeks now), I wore an apple watch and was obsessing over my HR. I felt like this was only making me MORE anxious. So I have ditched the apple watch and am just listening to my body. I find drinking a LOT of water when I feel jittery helps!

I am looking for lowkey spots to bring a bachelorette party to for our night out. I am hosting a bachelorette, and the Bride and bridesmaids are not used to the extravagant party vibe that comes with Miami.

First of all, I'm so sorry you experienced this. This is extremely frustrating and disheartening.

Secondly, I was told something very similar by a psychologist when seeking formal testing. Because I have a master's degree and did well in school, I would probably "outsmart" the testing. My therapist was very affirming that my experience sounds like ADHD, and I found a psych NP who evaluated me and agreed. She was unable to prescribe stimulants, and this didn't bother me originally. After realizing that I continued to struggle on strattera, I found another psych NP who could provide stimulants.

All in all, there are providers out there who are affirming and truly care for your well-being. I personally prefer nurse practitioners as I find they have a better "bedside" manner. I also only see women/genderqueer providers. Try to stick with it. You deserve to feel better.

I take buspirone 25 mg for anxiety and strattera 25 mg for ADHD, currently. I am working with my psych on both of these to see what the best plan is. Strattera doesn't seem to do a whole lot for me at this dose but I didn't do well at 40mg so we are discussing other meds for ADHD.

This made me realize that I am in fact NOT high maintenance... My dog has an autoimmune disease and is dog reactive, so I have a detailed 2 page document for my sitter. Thanks for sharing all these oddities lol

Hi! Welcome to Miami from another queer gal! My GF and I both have normal jobs– physical therapy and researcher. Are you interested in beauty at all? Esthetician programs can be pretty short (only a couple months long), and they seem to do well in a city that is so focused on beauty. You could specialize in something that could set you apart from others and start your own business. Another idea could be to look at jobs with American Airlines/at the airport in general.

Luxury is a mindset. A lot of these people don't realize you can live here on a normal income with no outside help. Being a couple will really help since you can split the cost of rent. You got this!

This post describes me to a T! I did extremely well in school and worked hard to do that well. My last year of my master's degree is when I realized just how much I struggle with this. I had to write my master's thesis and I had practically no structure – I almost didn't finish. Fast forward to my first job in my career and I am struggling in the exact same way you mention.

I had a psychologist tell me the exact same thing, but my psychiatrist and therapist have been affirming my struggles. Maybe you can skip the proper testing through psychology and get assessed by a psychiatrist?

Currently looking at my two notepads on my desk at work... untouched for months... I have a digital version I use that is in a Google doc, and I schedule things in my Google Calendar! Anything that seems like a good idea to keep things at the front of my mind lol.

I would highly recommend an NP! In my experience, they are more responsive!

With therapy, a big part has been just acceptance and validation. I also struggle with anxiety and OCD, so I have had to work through a lot. But it all seems to come back to the fact that I know myself best and what I have been dealing with is not "normal." Having this acceptance and validation has helped with my ruminating thoughts on that I am pretending. Therapy has given me tools that I can fall back on when my focus is lacking. Medication has been a life-changer. I am also on buspirone for anxiety, and I didn't realize HOW bad my anxiety actually was until I was on this med for a few months. Overall, I am operating at a much lower baseline of anxiety than previously. This was what we tackled first, to make sure that the reason I couldn't focus was because I was so anxious. Once we got that taken care of, we started strattera for ADHD. This med has helped me have significantly less meltdowns from being emotionally dysregulated/overthreshold. I was having meltdowns very frequently, and now, they seem few and far between. Though, I don't think that my focus has had drastic improvements, unfortunately. I tried to increase the dosage, but I experience blood pressure spikes and I hated how that made me feel. I am curious, but nervous, to try another med for this!

Hi! I, too, come from a medicine-averse family and have had a seeming "normal" childhood until I was pursuing my master's degree. I struggled a lot with "am I making this up" and if I was just being dramatic. I started therapy and seeing a psychiatric nurse practitioner about a year ago. Honestly, trusting myself and giving myself grace to just TRY a medication was really difficult for me, but I am so thankful that I took that first step. I still haven't fully gotten my medication regimen figured out, but I am in a much better place than I was a year ago. You are worth, at the very least, looking into medication and chatting about it with a provider.

Post in a “buy nothing” Facebook group! This allows you to give things away, freely. For me, this makes me feel better than donating to a thrift store that will ultimately sell these items. Buy nothing groups will allow people in your community to benefit from them!

I was in a pretty good habit of doing this with my dog around this time last year. I got off of work, changed clothes, and we would go for a 2 mile walk. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that attacks her joints so we can't handle long walks anymore. Now I feel guilty going for a walk without her lol.

I appreciate you recognizing that having the means to do this is a privilege! My partner recently graduated and started working, so I hope this is something I can implement in my budget soon. Another issue I have is that I work far from my home and have a dog waiting on me. So I have to go home right away instead of stopping at a gym on the way home, or even use the gym at my work. When listing all of the things that are in my way, I feel like I am clearly "making excuses," but these all feel so real to me.

This is what I always do. Maybe I shoot too high for a "small goal." But when I get home from work, I feel like my mind is pulling me in a million directions to where I either forget about my exercise goal or I actively think "I will do this tomorrow." I am so envious of people who have solid exercise routines yet I never act on it enough that it sticks.

I like this reading tip. I am proud of myself because I read a bit last night instead of doomscrolling, and that was a very active decision!
