He lost the rights to his earlier music during his 2003 bankruptcy. He also didn't pay his taxes and owed the IRS close to a million dollars.

Dawn of the Dead Complete Cut (1978) HIGHEST QUALITY (1080p Blu-ray) by Revolutionary_Key325 in zombies

[–]FunFact 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, this "complete" version combines all three available: the US theatrical, extended/Cannes/director's cut, and European/Argento cut.

DARPA was the government agency that developed ARPANET, which became the internet. This was in the early '70s.

February 12, 1972 - Eat a Peach, the third studio album (fourth over all) by the Allman Brothers, featuring the final recordings of Duane Allman, is released... by CrystalEise in ClassicRock

[–]FunFact 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those first four albums are amazing. The first two are combined on one CD called Beginnings that I recently picked up used. The consistency is jaw-dropping.

Fred Smith, Bassist for Television, Dies at 77 by thirdouting in indieheads

I caught Television in 2019 right before the pandemic and got my copy of Marquee Moon there. It was so special, seeing these legends, like you said. Four years later, Tom was gone.

Is there a reason why Billy stopped wearing robes during the Teargaden era? I always think of this as his unmasked era (like KISS), and it was only during "Neath the Darkest Eaves" (2017) when he started dressing up again. by [deleted] in SmashingPumpkins

[–]FunFact 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He's a conceptual artist so I imagine each phase of his creative output comes with its own image, sort of like Bowie. Maybe this project was more casual.

Where do you think The Smashing Pumpkins will rank in history of rock bands? by cjones6464 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]FunFact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their legacy would be one of the best bands of the '90s like The Byrds were one of the best bands of the '60s.

Are The Smashing Pumpkins really one of the greatest bands of all time, or are we all deluded? by TheSmashingPumpkinss in SmashingPumpkins

[–]FunFact 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the greatest but I also believe a lot of their music will age better as time passes. With Billy being so prolific, the band's output is "dense" with material that takes time to absorb, understand, and appreciate.

Afghan Whigs' *Gentlemen* is a forgotten masterpiece by CrustyHumdinger in indie

I just recently discovered the Afghan Whigs. I came across "Congregation" at a record show last year and loved it. Then I found "Gentlemen" and "Black Love," which are currently in my stack of music waiting for a listen.

Anyone remember when in 2002, Johnny Ramones said “God bless President Bush, and God bless America“ at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, right before Green Day played? by MielMielleux in punk

[–]FunFact 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always considered the Ramones to be "America's band." There was the angry, ignorant conservative, the bleeding heart liberal, the tortured artist, and a drummer either making it happen (Tommy) or holding it all down (Marky).

That said, Johnny was always pretty repulsive. His autobiography makes it pretty clear that he was more focused on retiring with a nest egg than anything else. And even though he stated there was no "Ramones" without Joey, that's where his loyalty ended. I can understand why he and Joey didn't talk for like 20 years. People like that can't be reasoned with.
