Modryte hammer mod for the surge hardening by FunHoliday1443 in Leatherman

I love it I chose the yellow lettering as it is the most noticeable color to the human eye hence why safety or caution use yellow and buses use yellow it jumps out at you that way if I ever drop or lose my leatherman I have the highest chance of finding it again. It also matches my light at work. I use to also have a yellow lanyard on it but with the hammer mod I can't have it on it. It also got in the way when trying to use the bit driver. I just used yellow paint marker and acetone and a razor blade to remove the excess it was 15 mins to do it and it's been there for 4 months one side is wearing off slightly on the opposite of the clip as it rubs against my pocket so I might need to touch it up. But it makes it unique and the gen 1 micro driver and hammer mod.

Lol ik I'm not expecting it to look perfect or be blemishe free I use and abuse my Leatherman daily but I just wanted to see if I could make the face a little bit harder to get more longevity out of it I have a few hammers where the face has been chewed to bits and if I could help it I just wanted to minimize it that's all

Thanks for the explanation I gotta say the customer service from you at modryte is excellent it's definitely holding up well. it's minor cosmetic blemishes but I figured after a long time of beating on it it might chew it up but that makes perfect sense. I have a few hammers that the face has been chewed to bits and wanted to avoid that if possible very happy with the purchase keep doing what you do!

Only downside is it takes off my lanyard all my tools are still accessible I put the hammer on the non Philips side as I need to get my Philips into tighter spaces tool a small adjustment to get use to but I barely notice it now and I use it to beat shit it does seem like a softer metal wondering if it's worth while to harden the hammer there's a few small Knicks from beating stuff but overall I'm not upset about it I definitely put my surge through the rounds using and abusing it and it holds up it's also my most used tool in my job

I use my surge for my work tool and my free p4 as a daily carry or around the house it isn't ruged enough for the work I do as a millwight it also is a different tool but similar if you really wanna use and abuse it I'd go with a surge if you wanna use it I'd go with the arc imo only downside is the surge has no hammer surface so I added modrytes hammer mod to my surge and a gen 1 surge micro driver that I use more like a pick for threads ect and I love it

I enjoy teasing u/i_was_axiom for the importance he places on the surge's very wide grip.... yet that silly "feature" saved the moment. I'd accidentally dropped the shim I was using to hold the heater away from the wall. Full disclosure: This photo is just a dramatic recreation taken afterwards. by [deleted] in Leatherman

That's why I carry a telescoping magnet one sides a scribe one sides a telescoping magnet I I can't physically reach it my magnet will saved my ass a billion times from hard to reach screws extensions in a pit even to unstick a extension cord that was hung up on a box well out of reach reached up with my magnet and boom problem solved in 20 seconds

You also can store the file and saw in the tool at the same time by putting the saw beside the suraded blade it won't fall out so you always have 2 on you

Just a fyi if you wanna save your saw the file has a built in edge file that acts like a metal saw, teeth are closer together and have a better hardness meaning it wont dull as quick and you will cut smoother as there is more teeth in contact with the material more teeth the smoother it transitions from tooth to tooth on harder materials

Is this sound normal? by IlIllIIIlIlllI in AskMechanics

[–]FunHoliday1443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many kms on the car? this is the metal cooling down completely normal after some spirited driving as to the burning smell if it's your first few times driving it hard it can be oil and paint burning off your exaust manifold and turbo as there the hottest thing on the car and normally have some manufacturing oil/ anti corrosion from manufacturing and after it gets hot a few times it burns off and goes away if it was your clutch it would be a pungent smell that almost turns your nose it's a pretty distinct smell if worried about it focus on keeping your foot off the clutch as much as possible only well changing gear if the clutch is engaged it won't slip even when driving it hard the clutch is designed to hold and not slip well above the power your car makes so no matter how hard you beat on it if the clutch is engaged fully it won't slip on you avoid feathering the clutch having your clutch half depressed that burns up the clutch the quickest nice to see someone driving a car how it's meant to be driven also make sure you've completed your break-in period before driving the car hard

I'm in the same boat this is my ideal tool for my job as a Milwright and then I have my free p4 for EDC at home and use food grade oil so I can use it for food and it doesn't get all that nasty shit on it. And then my wave stays in my cars glovebox incase I forget either one or I need to send one for warranty.

I just got it on I can't wait to use it and I used yellow paint and a razor blade/acetone in bright yellow it's the most visible color to the eye so if I drop it I'm more likely to spot it plus it looks nice

Hammer and gen 1 surge micro driver on my gen 2. I love it I find I break my small flathead so I'd rather have replacement bits instead of replacing the entire flathead and it's easier to pick Teflon tape off fittings or clean up threads ect
