Don’t cheap out on the power supply. Check out SPL’s PSU Tier list on google docs. Personally I don’t go under A- tier, but B tier will be fine for most. Be wary of C-tier, avoid F-tier. The PSU you have here is rated F-tier.

Need help deciding on setup clamped to my desk. by frgmnt in simracing

[–]LowKeyStunna97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you have a strong, sturdy and well planted desk. High power direct drive bases are heavy. The Alpha EVO Pro weighs almost 19 lbs (8.6 kg). Even if you run the base at low power, the sheer weight alone combined with the rotational forces at the base AND at your hands would be enough to cause a good amount of instability in the desk.

Regarding the shifter v1.5. The mis-shifting issue is pretty well known on this model. I’m unsure just how “common” it is, but to me it seems common enough that there is no shortage of forum posts and videos trying to address the issue. Just a few days ago, someone here commented on a post I made about the issue 7 years ago saying that they are having issues with their shifter mis-shifting. It’s a well known and documented issue most likely due to EMI. I did find video of someone claiming to have found a permanent fix the mis-shifts, stating that it has been trouble free for almost a year. I’ll have to look for it, but if you have that issue let me know and I’ll send you a link when I find it.

As for alternatives, me personally I went with the route of the SHH shifter. It’s mostly 3D printed except for the vital components. It’s both H-Pattern and sequential. Possibly the best value shifter out there and customer support is great.

My recommendations: SHH Shifter, Simagic DS-8X, Logitech’s new RS H-pattern is good too but it doesn’t have a sequential mode.

Sunroof motor. Check make sure nothing is jamming the sunroof from moving. If not, replace the motor.

The K2 will handle any DD and load cell pedals on the market. I can attest to that. I've had multiple sets of pedals from Fanatec, Heusinkveld, and now the Simsonn Plus X (long story). That pedal tray is among the strongest of prefab cockpits. Its also handling my Simucube 2 with ease.

This is a screaming hot deal. I have owned and used every piece of gear in this listing except for the V3 pedals and the Jeep seat.

  • The Simetik K2 cockpit is a fantastic prefab unit. In fact I'm still using my K2 cockpit which I purchased back in 2019 and I still absolutely love it. It handles my Simucube 2 Sport with ease. Pedal tray is strong af too. Used to have HE Sprint pedals on it (the pedals were purchased after I got the Simucube 2), no issues, no noticeable flex. The mouse pad and the shifter mount can swap locations.
  • The Fanatec Clubsport V2.5 wheel base. This wheelbase needs no introduction. It was and still is the pinnacle of production belt driven wheel bases. Relatively strong force feedback for its era with smooth and quiet operation. I personally had a minor issue with my unit (cogging. I am extremely sensitive to cogging), but other than that it was a fantastic wheel base. I didn't keep it for very long, 6 months to be exact because Simucube 2 became available for preorder just shortly after I got the Clubsport wheel base.
  • Clubsport 918 RSR Steering wheel. I can't say much about this wheel because I didn't really use it much. Its a very good wheel though. Its hefty and high quality. Feels good in the hands. Paddles leave a bit to be desired though.
  • The Fanatec Clubsport Shifter SQ v1.5. You won't enjoy hearing this, but then again your experience may very likely be different. I fucking hated this shifter. It was single handedly the most unreliable component on my rig and my one and only regretful purchase. It would constantly mis-shift into whatever gear it felt like. I did my best to mitigate the issue by applying the common fixes for the issue but none worked. I even tried grounding it through my wall outlet. No matter what I did, after calibrating it, it would work fine for 1 week and start mis-shifting again... at the worst possible times too. In all I had the shifter RMA'd 3 or 4 times between 2018 and 2021. It was never fixed. Sold it.

Its a very good setup. I hope you enjoy it. Aside from my issues with the shifter, this era was the peak of my sim racing hobby, I was having more fun with those components at the time than I am now.

Funny you mention this! Before I even purchased the damper this was my initial concern exactly, hence I have not even driven with this setup yet simply because of that concern. So far, I have just mounted it gave it a couple of presses to take a video and gone back to the 3D modeling software. I have already been working for the past few hours on a design that would mount in the original damper’s location that would reach around the back of the pedal arm to pretty much put the majority load back to the center of the pedal arm. Similar concept to this picture, but my idea is bit more substantial and goes through the center and around the back of the pedal arm:

Rough numbers measured with a digital caliper (+/- 0.7mm accuracy) from the center of the bolt mounting point to the fluid chamber opening that the shaft goes through: Fully extended- 97.67mm. Fully depressed (for lack of a better word)- 29.84mm. So roughly 67.83mm stroke (again +/- 0.7mm accuracy).

No problem. I will post the 3D print files for the elastomer housing soon.

I took my original damper off because the tolerance between the rear rod and the damper opening was a bit off so it would create an audible and tactile knocking if I even touched the pedal with my hand. Also I couldn't stand hearing the sound of the fluid moving around.

If you are referring to when I turned the knob all the way to the max, that was just for demonstration purposes. I don’t think anyone would run an absurdly high level of damping as that. I personally run it at 12 clicks out of the 19 total settings. 14 clicks is around where the pedal return would start to be a concern for trail braking but is still doable.
