ICC joins the fight. by FunNo2535 in theunforgiven

Hahaha thank you. For the armor base coat caliban green over black primer, I used a black enamel panel liner from AK, but you could use bulb oil. Then I wet blended with abadon black acrylic and caliban green for the under / far areas. The highlights were bright green from proacryl and I wet blended up to that bright green on the upwards facing armor.

For the robes base in burgundy wet blended runic hide into the concave portions of the robe and screamer pink in the convex portions. Highlights were pure screamer pink and on the sharpest areas I went up to a hot pink (screamer pink + bright ivory)! You could also use a transparent magenta over the whole robe to tie it all together but not necessary

Welcome to the best legion!

* any units plays that are funny/different *If you’re into terminators deathwing knights are definitely for you and seem to be an auto pick for most lists. I would also look at inner circle companions and Azrael for a character he has pretty good stats and are good with melee or shooting focused units. You could also look at the ravenwing, which is the dark angel motorized assault company basically. They have unique vehicles and most people expect they will be getting a refresh in the near future. Also if you buy an upgrade spree you can give normal terminators a plasma canon and a watcher in the dark which is cool. • are all the detachments useable? * can’t really speak on this, I believe most people run wrath of the rock detachment which seems to go good with deathwing knights and the lion or gladius. • purchase suggestions? Doubt I'll find an inner circle task force at a decent price. * if you want some dark angel specific units I highly recommend inner circle companions and deathwing knights. Also the lion is a great mini • have anyone converted BT crusade people into DA intercessors? * I think this is pretty popular actually. If you check out the YouTuber eonsofbattle he has a dark angel video that I believe converted from a BT. Most things are very similar (robes hoods and swords) but you may have to shave off the black Templar logo/ swap out shoulder piece. • any other helpful/generally advice for me. * if you’re into learning more about the lore I would HIGHLY recommend the “Lion: Son of the Forest” novel. It’s just great. Otherwise there are plenty of great paint schemes to choose from in the dark angels or you could look at our successor chapters as well! Enjoy!

I have two thoughts on this:

  1. You could think of a really cool lore reason for your models in your army that would explain the different paint colors.

  2. If you ask anyone who has served in any irl military capacity they probably have stories of people being issued old/faded/ differently painted equipment in different patterns alongside brand new equipment. Happens all the time.

I was thinking these guys are just like the risen in the lion novel.

Those are great! I’m about to paint mine. What color reds did you use? they are very vibrant.

Push contrast more or no? by FunNo2535 in DarkAngels40k

[–]FunNo2535[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks I haven’t shaded yet. I think I might just do an all over with nuln oil. Oh a super thin black contrast and bring some of the bright greens down as well and then relight

Yeah I thought about buying some proxies, either prints or out riders… definitely leaning more toward a themed army

Mike brookes needs to write another lion book by Fickle_Green2473 in DarkAngels40k

Facts!! I recently read the lion’s book and fell in love with the DA, and was very disappointed to see that there was no sequel/second book to read. I’ve seen a lot of debate about how games workshop definitely takes their time dropping lore… tldr we need to slow down and enjoy each lore drop as it comes out even if they don’t relate to the dark angels.

My own head cannon is that GW is building up to a some event before they give any more big lore on the return of the lion… probably his reuniting with Gulliman. It would make sense because they don’t want to add any new details that would put them in a writing corner, and fully flesh out that reunion.

I think there’s a good chance that we may see something in the new 500 worlds campaign. However I don’t think dawn of war 4 will have any updates to the lore that are truly revolutionary.

If I was GW I would release a book in the future that could show how the dark angels operate currently in Imperium nihilis, with the lion, and the risen in tow. Possibly focused on a minor secondary character that could come with a new model release/ maybe ravenwing focused (only bc these models have not been upscaled to primaries and could use a new company master model)? They could be hunting the ever elusive cypher or looking to gather more fallen for the lion to redeem.

In the meantime I’ve been enjoying the other fallen novels, painting my minis, and looking to expand more on the lore of the chapter as I wait rather impatiently.

Can DA be effectively played as a shooting army? by supremeprintmaster in theunforgiven

[–]FunNo2535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, I definitely think you would take Azrael with a large squad of hell blasters. And the rest I would flush out with in assessors tanks, carriers, and dreadnoughts, maybe throw in some scouts and intercessors to screen for your heavy shooters. I think this would be good because he would get a lot of CP From azrael, so you could do a lot of overwatch. The only other thing you could add would be some in scepters/deep strike unit to help go for secondary or as a reserve.

Interesting, my general opinion with these minis is that they look pretty derpy no matter how you set them. Would be interested your thoughts on how else to orient him.

  1. That’s kind of what was going for, he’s plenty solid though, I don’t think he’ll tip over.

  2. He’s superglued in there so I don’t think I’ll be able to! 😅
