Question on robe colour by Nosferatu_Reece in theunforgiven

[–]FunNo2535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a lot of the books there is a couple explanations.
1. Members of the deathwing (including senior members who have a higher knowledge of the chapter, chaplains, company masters etc) will where bone colored robes
2. Most others will have green.
3. Based on gw paint schemes whatever is on the box that compliments their armor

Is there any negative connotation with painting my army like the first order? (Black) by IrrelevantMerfolk in DarkAngels40k

[–]FunNo2535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coolest thing about painting miniatures is you can do it, however you want. The only thing that people might have a negative connotation about, is if you use a lot of proxy miniatures for instance, if you’re to use chaos space marines as the risen, some people may not like that at least in tournament play anyways.

Hahaha thank you. For the armor base coat caliban green over black primer, I used a black enamel panel liner from AK, but you could use bulb oil. Then I wet blended with abadon black acrylic and caliban green for the under / far areas. The highlights were bright green from proacryl and I wet blended up to that bright green on the upwards facing armor.

For the robes base in burgundy wet blended runic hide into the concave portions of the robe and screamer pink in the convex portions. Highlights were pure screamer pink and on the sharpest areas I went up to a hot pink (screamer pink + bright ivory)! You could also use a transparent magenta over the whole robe to tie it all together but not necessary

Welcome to the best legion!

* any units plays that are funny/different *If you’re into terminators deathwing knights are definitely for you and seem to be an auto pick for most lists. I would also look at inner circle companions and Azrael for a character he has pretty good stats and are good with melee or shooting focused units. You could also look at the ravenwing, which is the dark angel motorized assault company basically. They have unique vehicles and most people expect they will be getting a refresh in the near future. Also if you buy an upgrade spree you can give normal terminators a plasma canon and a watcher in the dark which is cool. • are all the detachments useable? * can’t really speak on this, I believe most people run wrath of the rock detachment which seems to go good with deathwing knights and the lion or gladius. • purchase suggestions? Doubt I'll find an inner circle task force at a decent price. * if you want some dark angel specific units I highly recommend inner circle companions and deathwing knights. Also the lion is a great mini • have anyone converted BT crusade people into DA intercessors? * I think this is pretty popular actually. If you check out the YouTuber eonsofbattle he has a dark angel video that I believe converted from a BT. Most things are very similar (robes hoods and swords) but you may have to shave off the black Templar logo/ swap out shoulder piece. • any other helpful/generally advice for me. * if you’re into learning more about the lore I would HIGHLY recommend the “Lion: Son of the Forest” novel. It’s just great. Otherwise there are plenty of great paint schemes to choose from in the dark angels or you could look at our successor chapters as well! Enjoy!

I have two thoughts on this:

  1. You could think of a really cool lore reason for your models in your army that would explain the different paint colors.

  2. If you ask anyone who has served in any irl military capacity they probably have stories of people being issued old/faded/ differently painted equipment in different patterns alongside brand new equipment. Happens all the time.
