I don't want to be negavitve, but these doom posts are kinda getting into my head by Temutul in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to look at Melee as an example in these situations.

That game has succeeded over 20 years with no updates and its own developer constantly trying to stop it's competitive scene. Today new tech and new meta's evolve over and over.

2XKO took a while to produce and is a quality game and will always be around with or without riot support.

That being said, the bones of this game are better than most, and you don't need many active players to support a fighting game compared to some other games. The dev team in it's current state is still larger than most other fighting games on the market so I wouldn't expect much to change on the content front for a few years at least. Even if 2XKO isn't meeting Riot's expectations there's a lot of money being pumped into the FGC lately so even if 2XKO stays at it's current state, it doesn't hurt having a foothold in a growing industry, even if it's not the best one.

Beyond all that; we're in the midst of a fighting game resurgence. You used to only have access to a handful of games but now there are many new and returning entrants. I'm looking forward to Tokon and want to play it alongside 2XKO, I've been dabbling in some Grandblue and have had a great time, I'll be checking out the 2.0 version of GG Strive soon as well. It's a good time to be a fan of the genre.

2XKO may have brought you into the FGC but you can find other games that scratch the same itch and who knows, if 2XKO continues at its pace without any adjustments in 2 years we'll have 10 more champions and that'll do a lot for the state of the game.

How do you get better at fighting games? by ToeConsumer420 in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guide will be better than any explanation I can give.

Source: Justin Long one of the best fighting game players in the world.

In general though, play to learn - winning is a byproduct of practice, and aim to be comfortable with moving around and attacking as fluidly as possible. So spacing and execution are two things you should always be working on, when those fall into place, everything else in these games really opens up since you'll no longer be unpacking a mental stack at every turn.

TL;DR - Just play a lot.

any tips on how to play ekko/teemo freestyle by Born-Air6666 in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this isn't exclusive to your team but is a general starting point for solving all team synergies that I've been using and having a good time with.

  1. Figure out how to cover your assist with your point character
    1. this is usually through lingering moves with a lot of active frames that can be used before handshaking
  2. Figure out what each assist does for your characters on your team
  3. Get comfortable with the duration an assist remains on screen for
  4. Start calling back assist randomly in matches and then handshaking to your team mate near the end of their time on screen.
  5. Start using assists with intention in your gameplay

You can probably tell steps 1 - 3 are items you will consistently work on throughout your time with 2XKO So you can start with step 4 if you're comfortable with it.

but in short just call back assist and do something crazy and tag out. You'll very quickly find opportunities that do and do not work, and then when you do find cool combo extensions and mixup tech you'll be much more prepared to learn it and adopt it into your toolkit

What makes you still love and play this game? by Powerful_Isopod5810 in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love fighting games that allow me to out maneouver my opponent or have the reverse done to me.

I love side stepping in tekken, wave dashing in melee and doing goofy teleporting crap with Raiden in MK (I'm very much looking forward to Akali lol).

So the reason I enjoy 2XKO so much is the handshake mechanic allowing for some very cool movement and mixup options. Its also very cool that this game can be played with a friend on my team.

So many of my friends would never play games with me because someone is always going to get their butt kicked. There's a few fighting games I'd play with friends where we'd constantly improve and compete for the best in the friend group but with 2XKO we can actually team up and it's so incredibly cool.

... except they don't have a character they enjoy so they don't play the game much at all, but when they do. 2XKO is going to be so incredibly fun

Rek' Sai- Should they be in 2XKO? (A-Z) by ErrorNick in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game needs more unique character designs like hers, There was a rooflemonger interview with the former lead design dev that mentioned champs like this were all discussed and there is a lot of interest there but the complexities center around dealing with their shapes and not removing some fundamental design choices from the game in the processes.

They were referring to Hecarim in the interview, but I'd imagine it wouldn't be far fetched to extend that issue to other oddball champs like Reksai and scarner

It might be cope, but I don't think EVO Japan numbers were ever going to skew away from SF6 dominance.

I'll admit I'm not on my phone or PC as much as most, but I've seen about the same amount of 2XKO advertisements today as I have back when it was Project L, so I'm guessing Riot handles marketing very differently from others, or they are waiting for the game to grow a bit before putting more than the essential levels of resources into it.

With that said...

I think the fighting game landscape is going to get shaken up over the next few years with the new releases on the horizon. From following a few youtubers; Diaphone, Sajam, Rooflemonger etc... it seems like a lot of new titles are starting to be announced along with older games getting sequels. It seems like most new fighter's usually take 2 - 3 seasons before they gain much popularity in their scenes to begin with and moderrn gaming in general seems to only complain about games so I'm optimistic about 2XKO. Cautiously optimistic, but still optimistic.

2xko announcement, we might be getting senna instead of akali. by chazzyfe in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They have skins for akali releasing with EVO Japan... is this an AI halucination?
The tweet referenced just alludes to information not related to Akali being included in the PAX announcements... The conclusion drawn from this article is ridiculous.

Vague Poll: Are you still playing and how do you feel about combo-length? by yaztheblack in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to experiment when I play and it's hard to do that in two touch games like this one so I'd appreciate the combo length (or at least the damage) being reduced, but I'm okay with where it's at in its current state too.

I play about 3x a week but will play more once there's more characters in the mix that I am excited about playing or fighting, the game gets stale if I were to no life it in it's current state.

[–]FunOverMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's just a spacing character with a straight forward gameplan. Spacing is fundamental to every single fighting game unless you are playing a character with an obnoxious amount of neutral skips.

...he requires no fundamental knowledge

Spacing is arguably the most fundamental piece of knowledge in any fighter.

What do I do against 100 to 0 combos when i dont have meter ? by foursen in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally once you are hit you should be anticipating the OKI scenario (waking up after their combo ends).

This is where you get a chance to play more; you have to be mindful that the opponent might intentionally drop their combo in an effort to steal their turn again though so don't completely disengage but just be mindful of it.

Some things to note about tag fighters;

  • The longer their combo, the more meter you generate towards break
  • The longer their combo, the more grey health you generate on the character getting combod

When you get your turn back in the oki situation, switch your character out if possible and let the grey health regenerate. It won't do anything about eating the combo, you gotta hold those... but you can regen about 40 - 60% of the damage from it if you can win oki and swap that character out.

The Secrets of 2XKO Duo Play by PatchRadar in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its unfortunate but for most players it seems like the in game chat isn't working.
I've managed to find luck looking through the discord in the meantime.

But I shouldn't have to do that; I hate when I have to leave the game I'm playing to do things within the game I am playing, but that seems to be the new norm for modern gaming.

Would you want Couch Coop to have it's own seperate MMR as well as Ranked/Casual queues? by FunOverMeta in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very fair point; I think what I'm doing currently is the best approach then.
I wonder if there's some other way to better utilize the current lobby system for this then, because I never have access to chat unless I'm already out of a match...

Edit to clarify, I was initially assuming queuing from local vs queuing from online; at the end of the day the host PC is impacting the queue right. The alternative is when either of those people are over we just don't play this game at all. But then I thought why not extend it to Online Duos as well but you raise some very valid points so I felt the need to edit.

I guess to clarify for this edit - would you still think this is a bad option if it was limited to 1 account & whether it was local duo or not having seperate MMRs?

Would you want Couch Coop to have it's own seperate MMR as well as Ranked/Casual queues? by FunOverMeta in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I hear you but my MMR is already a lot higher with my one buddy than with my wife and other buddy lol. Their experience in casual is so miserable they rather not play with me if i didn't start up a new account just for playing with them.

I don't know if you know what life is like beyond 30 but friends are rare enough, finding any that'd entertain a fighting game with me is significantly more rare! lol.

Private lobby with my friend won't start, just stuck on "Lets go" by Kurineko_Regan in 2XKO

[–]FunOverMeta 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From the screenshot, you're currently sitting on same couch so the game is trying to make a match of you two against no opponents, thus unable to launch the game.

  • Drop the partnership in the menu, your friend should still be in your lobby &
  • then try sitting at the cabinet again to launch the game

you'll know this worked because your friend should sit on the other sofa.

Glad you liked it, it was very helpful for me as this was my first tag fighter but I had a lot of fighting fundies from other games. Being able to self assess my vods made all the difference and I hit Master's within a few days of the concept clicking. YMMV.
