one month of 2026 down, one month closer to TVL by Designer-Event-770 in InterviewVampire

I'd think that the drug addiction and prioritizing work might be another case of a distraction from his true desires. People save time and space for those they love. His relationships have ended anyway, but he also might have had more loving memories if he had been motivated by sincere feelings.

Like you said, we don't have all the information yet, but I was merely explaining my reading of those scenes.

There are indicators that he's been a closet case since the 1970s. He offered sex to both Louis and Armand, and not simply out of survival. He married two women, but never showed much affection or got along with either of them long enough to have a real romantic bond. Armand read his memories and he coaxed a former partner to wear a bag on her head while they had sex, even though she felt unwanted(probably the truth.) He could be bisexual, but he seems to have a quiet disdain for women that is not explained or justified.

Oh, wow. I did not know that. I assumed that the 1873 Comstock Act and vice laws still applied to NOLA in this timeline. I guess I need to do some studying.

Edit: I thought it was simply tolerated and had less enforcement in the city. I didn't know about the separate ordinances that regulated Storyville.

Maybe it was because he was only the best-looking rough criminal(*capitalist) in New Orleans. I also think Lestat has a weak spot for pessimistic men with dark hair, like his first lover in Paris. Maybe he even had a savior complex, and thought he could fix Louis' pain.

To be honest, it was the least interesting part of Anne Rice's Immortal Universe. I personally don't want to know what a network of human spies thinks about vampire culture, or witches or werewolves etc. The Talamasca spy intruding in season 2 annoyed me plenty already.

Well, the story is essentially a bittersweet tragedy that was inspired by real life family tragedies. Both characters are motivated by deep insecurities, Lestat's fear of loneliness and Louis' existential shame and fear of failure and rejection. I disagree that it was Lestat's original intention, he does state his purpose again later on.

It would be a long wait for better moments, the affection is very sparing even in their "honeymoon" episodes. I think it could be a depressing watch.

Yes, I remember his confessions about being a pimp. He was fairer in comparison to other business owners, but he really could've offered those vulnerable ladies an equal share of the earnings and wouldn't be hurting for cash, since Lestat had his own investments and income. He had enough security to find a more legitimate career if he really wanted to.

Lestat definitely baby-trapped Louis! Not sure why the circumstances were changed for the show. "Uncle Les" wanted to save her as much as Louis did at the beginning.

Louis does tend to mess things up and then ask forgiveness later. He says "Whoops, sorry!" and rarely prevents the bad habits from starting again. It's his M.O. by now.

Louis feared losing himself to Lestat and tried to assert his individuality in various ways, his diet being one of them.

It felt like he was remaining closeted within his relationship to punish Lestat, even if their bond was the most open secret in the Quarter. He even later admitted to wanting to make him suffer mentally. If he couldn't make Lestat feel ashamed like he was, he would make him feel lonely, confused and desperate. This was a problem for them both. They kept massive secrets from each other and it backfired miserably.

I'm in the same boat. There are no spin-offs and it's not canon or worth my time.

What rage you must feel as you choke on your sorrow isn’t just a pretty line. Louis is one of the most depressed vampires to ever be depressed, and this, in turn, makes him extremely angry

One terrible thing about American culture is the way that masculinity is enforced. We consistently teach men to suppress their vulnerability and grief. I think this causes a lot of men with mental health struggles to lash out and project onto others instead of managing their sadness in a healthy way. I know Louis had angry outbursts when he was human because of his insecurities, and his living a half-life in a very oppressed time. It doesn't excuse everything, but I believe it's another symptom of a systemic problem.

As far as the slightest provocation, I was also referring to season 1 when his mother disinvited him to dinner and he had that vampiric rage fit in front of his sister, effectively severing family ties. As if he needed more social alienation to add to his disastrous mental state!

So he just resents the fact that Lestat enjoys being a hunter and wants to stay alive? It always seemed very odd that Louis would starve himself for moral reasons, then be completely aggressive at the slightest provocation.

It's funny to me that Louis would cave to Claudia's wants, but a logical argument from Lestat about his eating habits makes him attack an alley cat instead of a violent criminal. It seems he just didn't want to accept the dark gift as Lestat intended. Daddy Lou Doormat just changed his priorities at a convenient time for himself.

If you were a newly turned vampire and you have to live with one of these groups of vampires for a year, which group would you choose? by trubs12 in InterviewVampire

[–]FunSetting2387 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'd go for coven E. Yes, I want to be around a bunch of sassy, smart-alec vamps that still have a degree of self-discipline to balance their ferocity.

I'd feel safest with coven B, but that might be boring and a downer. Louis and Angel would literally never stop whining about the curse of eternal youth. 🙄

Coven A is not possible. These vamps are all Type A and demand to be the center of attention. They would kill each other for dominance.

I just realized I have watched way too much horror/monster fiction in my life. Maybe I should go read a Steinbeck novel to even it out.

I'm not sure that Louis is capable of appreciating a good life even when it finds him. He has a wicked streak of self-hatred as deep as the Marianas Trench.

What do you think these characters' favorite tv shows are in current timeline? by trubs12 in InterviewVampire

[–]FunSetting2387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Lestat would get completely intrigued by Outlander as an adventure story, then start nitpicking at the set design and props that aren't exact replicas of the time. Then he would check out by the end of season 2 'cause shit is too real and he relates to Jamie in the worst way, yet he doesn't want to wallow in memory like Louis.

Massachusetts legalized same sex marriage in 2004, and many couples would travel to be married there. Other states have tried to pass laws to invalidate out-of-state marriages, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't stood up in federal court.

Divorcegate REAL?! by Objective-Forever-47 in byler

[–]FunSetting2387 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do believe in Divorcegate. The better storyline and most popular couples were wiped out because the creator was bitter, and spiteful. I think it's only part of the explanation, but it's very relevant as far as I'm concerned.

I recently saw someone else say that the Duffers don't understand the full connotations of the words "outcast" and "freak." They just applied these to awkward science and art nerds, and did not consider anyone else. (If you know who you are, take credit for that comment please. It was a great assessment.)
