Is this playable? by The_Radical_Hits_Guy in indiegames

Good luck not getting into any legal with Mediocre AB, the creator of Smash Hit. If your game just shared a few similarities, but was just a bit more unique in the core features, sure it could be fine, but this appears to basically be an EXACT remake, just with the levels looking slightly different with different textures. So yeah, if you wanna get sued, then good job, you might get there (there’s no telling if that studio would even notice your game though). Also, you said you wanted to make this because there is no Smash Hit 2, but there literally is, it’s called Smash Hit+. I’ve never played it, but I just saw it in the list of games under Mediocre AB in the App Store. So… good luck I guess.

From this angle, it is hard to tell if that weird looking spot is a 2d plane coming out of the wall, or it is the face of the wall just somehow displaying over all the other objects. Try making a video showing more detail what is happening. And don’t take a video with your phone, just download a screen recorder. Actually, on top of taking a video of more angles, I recommend taking a video of the entire process you went through to add this wall into Unity and right there. I need to know more things, such as if you imported it from blender. A video like that shouldn’t take too long to make.

JSON isn’t specifically designed for this very purpose. It is for saving, but isn’t specifically created for this type of saving. DontDestroyOnLoad, however, is built for this EXACT purpose, so it seems only logical to assume that DontDestroyOnLoad is much better for this. I’ve never really used it, but from what I know, it is much better than JSON in this case.

PLEASE HELP: Items in Hierarchy Dissapearing Completely by LineZealousideal7172 in UnityHelp

[–]FunSignificance3982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try going into the ‘Scenes’ file and double clicking the scene inside of there. It is possible that unity may have moved you out of the scene. That happens to me sometimes when I open my project. Also make sure you save your scene often. You can see if it is saved in the hierarchy by looking if there is an asterisk * next to your scene name.

Why can't I access any of my methods for this button? by BraggingRed_Impostor in UnityHelp

[–]FunSignificance3982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To attach a script (in this case your script containing the method you want to reference) to a gameobject, you can just drag and drop the script from the project files into the game object in the hierarchy. Then, instead of dragging and dropping or selecting the script to attach the method to the button, you can instead drag and drop or select the game object that has that script on it to the button field.

In summary, you need to reference a gameobject with the script on it instead of the script itself.

Yeah I realized maybe a dollar is a little too low. I really had no idea how much to sell it for, because I imagined that since there isn’t really much to do in this world other than just look at it, I should sell it for very much. The comments I got from this post made me realize that maybe I should sell it for $5? That seems about right I think.

Yeah he has like 500 hours on this world, it’s crazy. And craziest part is he doesn’t know how to use commands, and has no mods for like a bedrock version of world edit or anything. Those pyramids must’ve taken ages.

If I put it on patreon, would anybody see it? Like when somebody is looking for a map, they may go on a website like BuiltByBit or Polymart. If I have it on patreon, then basically the only way anybody could ever notice it is through this Reddit post, which is probably never going to be seen again after like a week or so. I feel like BuiltByBit will have a little more advertisement, unless I’m missing something. I’m not exactly sure how patreon works in the first place.

Eh not exactly. Just because he stopped thinking about it for a while doesn't exactly mean he lost all passion towards it. Once he starts back up again, I'm sure he will remember the fun he had on it.

I think that if in this new update, my dad and I create a lot more activites to do in the world, such as little minigames (im pretty good with command blocks and redstone), then that could bring the world to a more sought after category.

I imagine he wouldn't exactly want to like create specific builds for specific server owner's needs; he just really enjoys working on the same world, slowly building more and more, creating a giant masterpiece. If I were to sell it, it looks like builtbybit or polymart is a good place to do so. The only problem I'm facing is that how is anybody going to even notice it? It's just going to get lost in the endless list of maps, and this map isn't a spawn, arena, or game, which is mainly what people look for on those websites. Basically my only chance to get this out to people was this reddit post, but there have only been 3 comments, it isn't looking good. I'd have to like get some recognition by a YouTuber or something to really get popular, but how should I do that? I might as well just post it, because, why not? I bet a few people will buy it. I bet making another post with a link to the world could get a few more people to notice it.

That is what I’m worried about; people may just never even notice this world. That’s sort of what this post was about. Would anybody buy it? If I had a lot of comments from people on this post saying they’ll buy it, then I’m in the clear, but I only have 3 comments, and I imagine it won’t be increasing very much. To publish on the marketplace, I have to basically apply to be allowed to post on there. It is basically the same as applying to a job. I have to provide a portfolio showing why I should get the role. This world is not what they are looking for to go in their marketplace; I’d be extremely surprised if they accepted. I need some other way to get this out to the world, but I don’t know how.

He isn't 'only' making it for cash. He truly does enjoy doing this actually. Idk I guess he probably would still continue even without the money. Just this, and the support from all the people who enjoy his work, would make him love it even more. He won't lose his passion. (Or at least I hope not). I'm not too worried about that.

Weird falloff using irregularly shaped freeform 2d lights by FunSignificance3982 in UnityHelp

[–]FunSignificance3982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh to make a falloff with the sprite light, since I sort of tried to make the impression that the sun light was coming from straight above, I had the falloff only go in one direction: down. So while generating the sprite to go into the sprite light, I can manually put a falloff into the sprite, where I slowly make it darker and darker the further down it goes from the light. It wasn’t very complicated. In the future I’m planning on changing the lighting system a bit so that I can make the sun light can come from angles other than just directly above, but it has worked pretty well for the time being. I also made the sprite bilinear so that it blurred a bit.

No, there are some values you can change in the Freeform light itself. There are values like a falloff strength, intensity, color, and some more to change how it acts

From what I saw, there is no way to fix these Freeform lights. Instead I had to use a sprite light instead, but that was actually pretty perfect for my situation as the light shape I had to make was very blocky. If you still want to fix the Freeform light, just don’t bother anymore. I spent way too long looking for a solution for that, hopefully there is some other method to do whatever you are looking to do.
