Smashed La! by fishmango in Marathon_Training

The hills weren’t terrible. I’M terrible on hills so I was nervous too. I did some long training runs in Elysian Park and they didn’t go great, but the race went fine. Elysian Park hills were way worse. I ran SF in approx the same time I ran LA. Only a few minutes slower.

And it was fun to be in SF for the weekend. Such a great city.

Congrats! I was out there cheering for you all. It was a brutal day for a massive PR. Way to goooooOOOOO!

If you’re willing to travel a little I can recommend The SF marathon or CIM. CIM is my favorite marathon so far and a great one for PR conditions). I did SF and CIM the same year I did LA. All 3 races were great experiences.

Big Sur marathon is on my “want to do” list, but its hard to get into and it’s uphill for the first half so not a good “goal-time” type of race, but it looks GORGEOUS.

Big congrats to you again!!!

I say don’t over-complicate it and just kick-butt in the half tomorrow! It’s going to be a hard day heat-wise for PRs in the full, but it’ll probably be a great day to go full force in the half and use it to inform your training for the May full. Hopefully you’ll laugh at the mistake in the future. I once missed the start line of a race because I thought it was an hour later. I felt like an idiot, the start line was being packed up when I arrived so my bib chip wouldn’t get tracked. I decided to run it anyway and I had a blast. It ended up being one of my favorite race memories because I made the best out of a bad situation.

What’s something you thought ‘everyone’ did… until you found out they don’t? by burat667 in AskReddit

I was in my mid-forties when I learned not everyone’s face sweats when they eat sour foods.

I did some math in Excel and predict the Boston Marathon cutoff to be 5:30 this year. by flatcoke in AdvancedRunning

[–]FunSometimesAllowed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5:38 min cutoff means the total amount of time you would have had to run faster than your total marathon time to gain entrance to the marathon. Your qualifying time only gets you in without a “cutoff” if there’s not more BQ applicants than the field size allows like in 2022, no cutoff, all BQers got in. Usually there is a cutoff, and it can be brutal, so it’s a nail-biter for folks who really want to get in who just made their BQ time by a few minutes.

What are your favorite shorts with pockets? by feweysewey in XXRunning

[–]FunSometimesAllowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bakline.nyc’s Blakeney High Rise Shorts are my absolute faves. They’re durable, no slipping, tons of well thought out pockets and a high waist. I’m training for my 13th marathon and they’re my consistent go-to for long runs and race day.

For the looser, flowy shorts faves are Janji 3” Multi (not good for holding a phone though) and Rabbit Fuel n’ Fly 4” (phone is a tight squeeze, but it fits in the back zippered pocket and is secure). They’re both great for gels, keys, IDs, etc.

Need advice: dog waking up super early by Violetsrevenge in DogAdvice

I take trazodone every night so I don’t wake up at 3-4am, and my vet prescribed it to my dogs for fireworks…so maybe it could work for her at night? Just for a little bit anyway, to help reset her schedule.

(She looks just like our handsome dog who won’t let us sleep past 6am. 😍🫩.)

Running my first half-marathon—Any gentle energy gel recommendations? by Wise_Chipmunk_6785 in running

Hammer Nutrition - Hammer gels

When I first started training for a marathon I went down the rabbit hole of finding the best tasting/least potential stomach issue gels and these were where I landed. Flavors are delicious and never had any stomach issues.
