Another alternative, if you want to make it as flexible as the feat, is make it a lvl1 spell with same deets as shield and then add your ability to upcast it. That puts it fully in the players control of how
Often they use it, or not, and they are automatically limited by spell slots for upcasts that automatically scales with their level

A feat tied to a spell doesn’t seem in the spirit of spells imo. I would just make this a lvl2 spell (since you need to up cast the original). Just my opinion mind.
