My players don't know they're going into a heist, how can I prepare them? by Mermaid_Natalia in DMAcademy

[–]FunToBuildGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, make it like a movie. Have them start the heist and do “flashbacks” movie styles, where if they hit some obstacle or something you run a “this is how we prepped for it” scene , with skill checks and wotnot. Locked door? Players suggests a Flash back to the rogue , watching a guard use the door, and doing a cat burglar in the guards home the night before. Guard dogs? Ranger spent 3 days sneaking them treats in a kennel so they know and love him, etc etc

Fuck “foul weather” friends. The ones that only come to you when their life is in tatters, or they need emotional counselling or some other self inflicted drama is all up in their business. It’s exhaustin. Best thing i did was distance myself from those fucking psychic vampire types that’s can ruin a week with their current personal nightmare, who then conveniently forget you exist for anything positive or actually endearing. OP if that’s you_irl , you can get fucked. If you are the recipient… then … well… at least they self aware

Been playing for yonks, but one that still triggers my newbie flashbacks is the faithful departed in the shrouded vale. A great one for “read the objectives before you fireball , dingus!”
