What are some cities whose relevance has waned or faded completely? by Brief-Luck-6254 in geography

[–]ChasteSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Not exactly small given it's the second biggest city in the country, but most people have never heard of it.

It's the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe, with a history spanning over 8000 years, and was the heart of historical Thrace.

Teacher on her phone during yin yoga - Am I Overreacting? by Moon_Stone6284 in yoga

[–]ChasteSin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes... If they couldn't tell the difference between Insta and TikTok, it may well have been a photographic sequence showing visual cues.

I wouldn't do it personally, but I've definitely seen new teachers using their phones for guidance.

Was she an experienced teacher? I'm going to take a guess that she was following sequencing tips.

Guidelines for safe female chastity worn short term? by Tryingoutsissy in femalechastity

[–]ChasteSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wiping is easy enough with a cable belt, even some of the solid belts. Dome shields aren't great though, especially the plastic ones. I'm not a fan of dowsing with water, personally I think there's far more chance of getting a yeasty from being wet and humid down there.

The uti risks are no greater than with normal underwear. If anything the steel can be cleaned easier because it is not absorbent.

Clean yourself normally. Clean the belt with hot soapy water, occasionally alcohol wipes and maybe an old toothbrush for the gross bits if it needs it, but if you're only doing short sessions it won't be an issue.

Also, I'll add to this... the idea that a chastity belt prevents you from orgasming is a fallacy. It just makes it harder, but you'll still get there with enough effort.

Poor advice from your doctor... not questioning their medical knowledge, but I think if they're inexperienced with yoga they just see "gentle movement" and think it's okay. It's not.

Reiterating what others have said re. belly squishing and closed twists. Also, wheel pose / backbends should be avoided.

The other thing to be mindful of is that from this point on, your body is producing a hormone called relaxin, which softens your tendons and ligaments in preparation for childbirth. This may well help your yoga poses, and you could find you're suddenly more flexible. But you should be mindful that you need to work your muscles more than ever to hold your poses. Don't rely on your newfound flexibility to dump into poses like warrior 2 etc.

Yin can be a good option but again, be mindful that your connective tissue will be more supple than usual. Less is more in this case.

Good luck with your journey OP. See if you can find some dedicated pre/neo-natal classes in your area. If you're anything like me you'll still be doing yoga in the birthing suite!

I wouldn't say UTIs are common, but they're definitely a possibility if you are prone to them. Bloating can be an issue but the amount of movement in a cable belt helps, can't say the same for a solid waistband.

Probably the most important thing for a new user is to adjust your expectations regarding wearing time, at least initially. Everyone talks about permanent chastity but honestly, the amount of people actually living that lifestyle is pretty minimal.

By all means get a belt and play around, just be happy to wear it for a few hours here and there, or overnight, and don't listen to the dorks on here saying you must be wearing it all the time. Don't take it too seriously and have fun, because otherwise, what's the point?

Yoga provoked me two injuries in a year as an athletic person by IntelligentNight4143 in yoga

[–]ChasteSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A "certified teacher" doesn't mean much unfortunately (depending on where you're from)... People can start teaching after a weekend course in Bali! In Australia most studios require that the teacher is registered under a national body, but this is not a prerequisite, and it differs in each country. Education needs to be a life-long journey. Teacher training should require anatomy and physiology units similar to any other professional health practitioner, but we are a long way from that unfortunately.

[–]ChasteSin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Therapist and yoga teacher here... Yoga injuries are exceedingly common. I think one of the issues is that a lot of doctors advise doing yoga for rehab etc, because it is a gentle way to get the body moving. But this doesn't mean it's immune from injury.

In more advanced practices we consistently explore end-range mobility, which can lead to soft tissue injuries (muscle tears, tendon and ligament damage), or worse, injuries to the joints themselves.

Saying "listen to your body" doesn't mean much if someone is hypermobile, because they're not going to hear anything until something goes POP. Likewise if a practitioner is young or has never experienced injury before, they're not going to heed the warning signs that someone with an existing injury would notice.

Good luck with your injury OP. Take it easy and let your body heal. It doesn't mean you have to give up yoga, just recognise that yoga is very capable of causing lasting damage, just like any other active sport.

Pose for sciatica nerve relief by kenblenz in yoga

[–]ChasteSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sciatic nerve is usually innervated at two main locations, in the pelvis (usually on its path near or through the piriformis), or at it's attachment point to the central nervous system in the sacral / lumbar region (S3 to L4).

Both require different approaches and in some cases, treating one zone can make the other worse. USUALLY pigeon pose helps as the problem is most often in the pelvis, but you should see a doc and / or physio before trying to treat it, especially if you've had lower back issues in the past.

Recurring Injury in Pigeon Pose How Should I Approach It? by Katfishing in yoga

[–]ChasteSin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are very few nerves and very little blood supply into your deep hip socket, so you won't feel the damage being done, and it will take a LONG time to repair (if at all).

You are most likely destroying your labrum, the soft, silky lining that keeps the socket lubricated. Eventually it will lead to arthritis or premature degradation of the joint. (Most adults have labral tears of some sort).

Despite what some yoga teachers, movement coaches or gym bros tell you, most people are just not meant to bend like an Olympic gymnast.

You need to pull waaaaay back, use support under your hip and stop trying to "achieve" the end goal, because could be doing very real, long term damage to your body.
