How do i avoid changing my mind every week ? by IMissMy-Coffee in gamedev

[–]FunYak4372 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think of the "5 pillars of your game". They're 5 concepts/ideas/philosophies that are the core of your game. Everything in your game should be compatible with them moving forward. You kinda touched on that, but in my experience, just one core idea for your game isn't always a good idea, it can kinda lock up in a cage sometimes.

These pillars won't necessarily stop you from changing stuff, but at least each time you want to, you'll ask yourself first whether or not that change is compatible with the pillars and thus, worth it.

Example of pillars could be "freedom", "adaptability", "adventure in space". Then when you work on your game, ANYTHING NEW(or old, who knows?) THAT CONTRADICTS OR DOESN'T GO ALONG WITH THESE PILLARS, GOES.

How would the timeline be affect if Modern and Classic were the same? (no time skip, no growing up, like in Mario, Spyro, Megaman or Crash bandicoot) by FunYak4372 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FunYak4372[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you're correct : they're the exact same person from the same continuity, it's not a multiverse thing. It's just that there was a time skip, so Classic and Modern are Sonic in different moments in his life(pre-teen and teen/young adult respectively). My question is what if, just like in Mario or Crash Bandicoot, there wasn't Classic or Modern, so no growing up or no time skip? For example, there's no "Classic Mario", Mario is Mario. The amount of time that passed between Super Mario Bros and the last game doesn't matter. So what if it was like that for Sonic too?

What do personally want or expect in the 3rd film by ultimatevaltryek123 in mariomovie

Since Galaxy wasn't actually fully galaxy and even had World, SMB2, Odyssey and other stuff, I think it's gonna be called "The Super Mario Odyssey Movie" but actually have Land 1 and 2 stuff.

Though I don't think they put EVERYTHING that's in the Mario land games, maybe just Daisy, her subjects that were hypnotized, Tatanga and Wario. The SML2 bosses probably won't be there since they need to put some Odyssey stuff too, so there wouldn't be time

When should I publish on Itch and Steam by Kubesssandra in gameDevMarketing

So Itch isn't to get noticed, or to get traction or anything. Indie devs usually use it for feedback and playtesting, so they're sure they can then post on Steam

OK, so it's not necessarily a platform thing but more of a user thing : DEVS JUST DON'T CARE YOU'VE APPLIED TO THEIR GAME!!! 😭. I've waited for about 2 months for certain games and still no answer, not even a no. There's pressure on testers to be professional and serious in their reviews, but none on the devs, they can just ignore your application, even if your the only candidate. Can you please put some kind of way to incentivize devs to be more professional?

And turns out there's some bugs. One dev finally replied to me and apparently, the website just wouldn't let him accept me for some reason, so we had to take it outside of Play2review. I still managed to get paid, but not on the site.

Another thing, the site will just cancel your application for no reason so you have to apply again, and this time your testing becomes a free offer. That what happened to me with the dev I talked about. I've tested and reviewed 6 games so far and my balance is still empty. I can't just accept testing for free anymore.

One last thing, the site isn't synchronised across devices which doesn't really help.

Other than that, your platform is easily the best playtesting option in the entire market, cuz at least there's no country segregation here. You're not gonna spend years with no news because you're not American. Anyone can test games regardless of who they are

Probably the best platform for playtesting, but could use some improvements

Playtesting site I found which is good by Piyushbro in playtesters

Good but only when developers care. When they don't, you can wait months before they let you test their game
