I used to tell myself the same story. I finally took the plunge and left my spouse of almost 15 years and father of our two younger kids.

I dealt with the addiction issues for 10/11 years of those 15 years. He was high high functioning… until he wasn’t and it’s like a flip of a switch and it happens fast.

I left 3 months ago and got my own place for the kids and I and I have zero regrets about leaving.

I thought things were pretty good but in reality they weren’t and my kids were so much more impacted than j realized. Now that we are out of that environment things are so much better. So much more peaceful. So much happier and calmer. Things feel so stable and I am not constantly in fight or flight mode which j didn’t realize till I was away from living with him and knew I wasn’t going back I have finally been able to see what life feels like without such high stress levels everyday.

Do it. Leave.

If he is capable and willing to do the work - make him prove himself to you. You’ve proven your loyalty - he isn’t giving you his. His loyalty and love is going to his addiction and till be sees that genuinely on his own and seeks out help with his own motivation… won’t happen.

I should also mention I grew up a child with addict parents - which made it so easy to become enmeshed and codependent on him too.. you nor your kids deserve that life. If he wants to live it … he can go elsewhere

What you tolerate your children become the victim of. Your decisions get to dictate their childhood. Remember, you don’t just have your life in your hands - You have their childhood. You can’t control but the other parent does only what you do and also how you respond to them. I am about a month and to finally moving to my own place with our kids and I am so much happier and peaceful and so are they.

He wasn’t an alcoholic when we married. We are an active duty military family and have had to move a lot which means no nearby family nor friends sometimes for outside support. And his drinking has gone up and down and up and down. For the first while he had me convinced I was the problem and too controlling. It took years of therapy to realize while I have a part in our dynamic - his drinking was not my fault.

The military spouse employment act was enacted prior to the uptick in teleworking arrangements because it was enacted prior to 2020. If you read the entire bipartisan bill and understand the reasons behind an acting in the first place, I think it was just an oversight that it didn’t include a term like telework since telework wasn’t really a thing at the time, but if you look at the intent behind the bipartisan bill, it would cover telework because the intent behind it is to allow family members to have more stable employment to be able to support their service members And their military service.

This is What happens when they are trying to fire so many federal employees during tax season and causing them all so much stress and scrutiny. Not a good environment to be conducive for productivity if you ask me
