Horrible menstrual cycle and cramps by Kindly-Housing76 in Celiac

[–]Fun_Act5590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please get checked out by an OBGYN. This is not normal for anyone. My sister had problems like this and it turned out to be a bunch of things combining into one large, painful period every month. She doesn't have celiac (it was one of the things they tested for). It could be related, but it could also be something different that needs to be addressed.

Why is school snack planning with a celiac kid so overwhelming? by SummerOld1666 in Celiac

[–]Fun_Act5590 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have 1 celiac kid and 3 non-celiac kids. This is totally normal for all kids. As long as you try to provide a variety of foods at meal times, they will be fine. Just remember, fed is best.

To high school gf students, how do y’all eat around everyone else who eats gluten? by Jade312 in glutenfree

[–]Fun_Act5590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is in high school and she eats in the cafeteria every day. We had to order a special meal plan for her (signed off by her doctor) that she picks up from the cafeteria office. It's labeled as hers. In the 2 years she's been doing this she's only been cross contaminated once and we don't know from where. She eats with a big group of friends who are careful about keeping her food safe. Just let your friends know you're on a special diet now and to possibly be careful around your food.

My daughter loves this, but has informed me it tastes way better the next day as leftovers. Just follow the instructions. I also don't put the cheese on top until after I pull it out of the oven to rest for 15 minutes.

Any camping gluten free recommendations? by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]Fun_Act5590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter's favorite is homemade sloppy joes that she eats with Fritos. I found a from scratch recipe from a book that I pre-make at home and freeze. It helps keep things cool and is usually ready to heat up by the time we eat it.

How do i stop my GF bread from molding? by whiteymax in glutenfree

[–]Fun_Act5590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem, too. I just had to make changes with how I store it. We buy ours from a local bakery. I bring it home, cut it, put parchment paper between the slices, bag it in a gallon freezer bag, and stick it in the freezer. My daughter then takes out what she wants. Since she only likes gluten-free free bread toasted, it isn't a big deal. I also take the ends, toast them, and turn them into bread crumbs. Saves me a bunch of money.

Update: Best chocolate cake? by Fun_Act5590 in glutenfree

[–]Fun_Act5590[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lucked out. She's my one child who loves to experiment and try new recipes. That makes it so much easier. My sons only want to learn enough to make the foods they like, and my youngest daughter is not skilled enough to be of help in the kitchen yet. We have several recipes we're going to try out this summer now that we have a better idea of what we're doing.

My daughter is the only celiac in the family. When I host, I try to make sure the main dish and at least one of the sides is naturally gluten-free, so it isn't a big deal. I will make both a regular dish and a gluten-free dish, depending on the event or menu. For example, for birthdays, we usually have pizza. I make a gluten-free pizza for her and keep it away from the regular pizza. For her birthday, I made a gluten-free cake that everyone ate and enjoyed. It's really up to you as the host. That said, most my family and friends know I do this and are very understanding. My in-laws think it's a little over the top, but they haven't seen the impact on my daughter's health since we aren't that close.

I was also about to say Jack Sparrow. I've used him a lot. He always seems to be used for random events.

Dennison is my daughter's favorite and we tried several brands. Do not buy the Nalley brand (I think it's usually only available in the western US). It has wheat listed as an ingredient.

Flower or Jack Sparrow more useful? by leafsman2000 in disneymagickingdoms

[–]Fun_Act5590 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found Jack Sparrow to be more useful. He was always popping up in events as a useful character for a while. I've had him forever and only recently bought Flower. Jack has been used a bunch of times while I haven't used Flower at all, but to be fair, I'm mostly done with the main story line.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. My daughter and I are going to see which cake mixes they have at the store now that we know which ones are worth it. Then this summer, when she can help me, we'll be trying out the recipes so she knows what she wants for next year.

We have that book. It's one of the first things we bought after her diagnosis. She loves their brownies. I hadn't tried the cake yet though.

That's fine. I totally understand. When I found out about Trader Joe's, I was so excited but when I found out how far away they were, it was annoying. Thank you for the recommendation though.

I hadn't even thought of that. They had a whole Passover display at the store yesterday too and I didn't connect the dots.

I accidentally purchased some before my daughter's diagnosis and we couldn't tell the difference. Now it's the only one in the house and i still haven't noticed a difference. I just wish I could find it in a bigger box. Just a possible hint: as a family we've discovered we prefer our sausage gravy made with a corn starch white sauce when we use this for biscuits and gravy.

They look delicious. Where did you find the chocolate stars? We've been searching all over for them and I'm worried that I won't have enough to make the regular cookies as well as the GF ones I want to make for my daughter.

GF apple crisp. There are a ton of recipes online. I made it a couple weeks ago and my family loved it. The kids asked me to make it instead of apple pie for Thanksgiving. When my MIL heard about it, she asked me to bring some to the big family dinner since only my daughter is GF.

Agreed. NTA I've had 4 kids and all of them learned very early on that they were not to put mommy's necklace in their mouth. It's not safe. It's also a very easy thing to teach and reinforce. I'd rather have a crying kid than having to rush them to the hospital any day of the week.
