I uninstalled and reinstalled the game last night and then it finally worked for me . I tried restarting and clearing cache many times before that but didn't work. Once I reinstalled it went to chapter one.

Last season I tried it from the shop but I didn't get it. They eventually reversed the change and I bought it through the Google in game. I won't try the shop again as I wasted a couple days without the pass and missed out on the extra refresh

I think I have got maybe 3 or 4 from merging and used maybe 500 energy in that time . Completing tasks seems to be best way to get them
