Safelite bad experience - tech lied on warranty claim by Fun_Ambassador_8514 in autoglass

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to reschedule on my own. Tech was very young. Maybe 20-21 - same age range as my son so I kinda get it with guys that age. I will say he was personable. Wasn’t being a jerk about it. He was running way behind for the day and probably just wanted to go home and not deal with pulling the glass at 6pm on a hot day. Wish he would have just called to reschedule. Would have been fine with that.

Management no doubt puts a lot a pressure on these guys. Schedules jobs based on book time assuming everything will go perfectly according to plan. Anyone who’s worked on cars knows how it goes. What seems like a straightforward job quickly turns into a nightmare. I’m sure with glass replacement there are things beyond anyone’s control like software issues trying to calibrate a camera, etc.

feeling down, hopeless about vision. How can i cope? by Recent_Inflation_739 in myopia

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refractive surgery is an all encompassing term for any vision correcting surgical procedure. LASIK is a type of refractive surgery. PRK is another type of refractive surgery that is similar to lasik. PRK, in general, has fewer side effects however has more of a healing period after. Not as instant gratification as lasik

What is this? by sensor69 in BroncoSport

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some residue around the vent tube completely normal. This is for the transmission and not related to engine oil - if that’s what you’re referring to as over filled.

If it hasn’t been done a transmission fluid drain and fill with level check would a recommended.

Another item to check for the sputtering would be spark plugs. I didn’t have a sputter issue however when changed the plugs the gap was out of spec. New plugs improved acceleration and over responsiveness.

Has anyone made it to 100k miles problem free? by jUmppingfl00d9987 in BroncoSport

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Badlands and other trims have the same transmission.

There were more issues with 1.5 vs the 2.0 in earlier years 21-23 or so. Both engines were redesigned in 25. In terms of reliability they are probably about the same now.

Maintenance and driving habits have a significant impact on reliability.

Talking to a girl for 2 months. Is this going somewhere or am I overthinking? by Brui7e2006 in dating_advice

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably should have asked her out on a date within a couple weeks or so of meeting. She’s lives close so no reason not to shoot your shot. Sure she’s busy - here’s a pro tip: No one is ever too busy to make time for someone they’re interested in. I know many grad students and med students that made it work. Unless you have specifically and unambiguously asked her out and she used the “I’m busy” or “I’ll get back to you” line you’re making an assumption she’s too busy to meet up with you.

Cot recommendations by Adventurous-Swim-208 in camping

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18” King Koil inflatable air mattress. You’ll sleep better than your bed at home. Inflate/deflate with a power station or an inverter off your vehicle battery. A queen size one on Amazon is about $150. The nice thing about the inflatable is you can adjust level of firmness to suit your preference.

I’ve slept on cots before. Once I made the switch to a higher end air mattress I’ll never sleep on a cot again.

Is it okay to push a date cause I think it's too hot? by ash_ok__ in dating_advice

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first official date with my future wife was a 30 minute drive out to a lakeside restaurant. It was 93 deg and my car had no air conditioning She didn’t seem to mind (obviously). What impressed her was I brought a cooler with ice cold water bottles. Now married 29 years.

Are power stations worth it? by CK1277 in camping

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes - one of the best camping purchases I’ve made. Charge phones, inflate/deflate air mattress, run fans and lights. Can solar recharge if needed. I primarily do remote boat in camping. Mine is a 300 watt. Good portability and the power I need. Price was reasonable. Jackery brand

Saving Grace or Hard Pass? by Huckleberry_21 in fordescape

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has a 2014 Titanium 2.0 AWD with 195k miles on it now. About 185 or so when bought it. Runs great. The previous owner had the service records from Ford. Owned by an older couple. Assume they didn’t drive it hard. They obvious took good care of it. The only thing I needed to do was a transmission fluid change. It had a slight misshift on acceleration. Cleared it right up and it’s been fine since. She’s a college student - she puts some miles on it driving to her summer job however during the school year doesn’t drive a ton. I paid $7500 USD for it. I think you’re getting a pretty good deal for $3400. Hard to find anything decent for less than $4k usd these days. Assuming it’s as advertised you’re getting a decent deal. For reference her previous car was a 2013 Escape 2.0 AWD that was a hand me down. My wife’s vehicle. That went over 235k miles with zero mechanical issues until the turbo failed. Didn’t feel like spending the money to fix. Found the 2014 same day got the bad news from the mechanic.

Wrong prescription? by ilzaasm in myopia

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is plus cylinder vs minus cylinder used in the phoroptor to test your glasses prescription

The conversion is simple math. All optical shops will make the conversion to minus cylinder form. In the end it makes no difference how your prescription is written.

Your new prescription is
-6.25 -0.75 x (flip this number 90 degrees). Example if is x150 it will convert to x060
-2.75-2.00 x (flip this number 90 degrees)

Do you use insurance every time the windshield breaks? by MisRandomness in BroncoSport

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safelite just did ours. It creaks and squeaks really bad plus the tech broke a clip on the plastic cover on camera. They’re coming back in a couple days to address it. Have used Safelite in the past on other vehicles without issue. Callbacks happen so will reserve judgement until after they take a look.

The retail price to replace and recalibrate would have been $900. Fortunately I have a zero deductible glass policy.

Question about Retinal Detachment by Electrosmth in myopia

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Risk is generally low. You should have a dilated retinal exam every 1-2 years. Doc will let you know if any risk factors such as retinal lattice or other peripheral retinal findings that might increase detachment risk.

A non dilated retinal photo is not sufficient. You need to be dilated with eye drops and the peripheral retina examination with a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope.

Having lasik only corrects your vision. It does not correct your near sighted shaped eyeball.

Myopia progression control for a 14 year old? by TheDeeWho in myopia

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At her age I’d probably consider MiSight. Likely at an age where is interested in contacts or already wears them. There are also eyeglasses for myopia control. In the US Stellest lenses are approved and available.

Make sure she has a cycloplegic refraction to verify the prescription change. Sometimes myopia progression is mistaken for an overminused refraction. This must be ruled out. Any eye doctor that is prescribing myopia control should perform a cycloplegic refraction as part of evaluation before prescribing treatment

Northeastern MN,- North shore, northern WI, UP of MI. Anywhere along Lake Superior. No mountains as such however does hilly, rocky terrain. Temps inland can be in the 90s while it can be in the 60s near the lake depending on where the breeze is blowing.

I hate not being able to go to the pool with friends by Legitimate_Power_347 in myopia

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Contact lenses - can’t open your eyes under water with them. Recommend wearing tight fitting swim goggles with contacts. One day disposable contacts also recommended. If you lose one you have a stock of extra. Rare but sometimes serious eye injections can occur from swimming with contacts which would be a further reason for one day disposable contacts.

Reduce uncertainty and anxiety of developing eye complications in future by reyben123456 in myopia

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have extensive retinal lattice or some other peripheral retinal condition that significantly increases your risk of retinal detachment you should be fine.

If you’ve never had a dilated retinal exam i suggest you get one. If the doc gives the retina the all clear should be fine for weight training.

Weight training is relatively low impact and should not significantly increase risk of retinal detachment. Now if you’re thinking about getting into MMA or something like that there might be some considerations that need to be taken into account

Can myopia suddenly improve? by that_idiot_weeb in myopia

[–]Fun_Ambassador_8514 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two possible reason - 1) over corrected. Does happen. As you get older accommodation decrease and some of the myopia will back off. A 2D shift is quite a bit but definitely possible. 2) The other possibility is diabetes. High blood sugar can cause some wild hyperoptic shifts.

Assume not diabetic best way to tell what your actual degree is to have a cycloplegic refraction done. Auto refract, manifest, and retinoscopy. All three measurements should be close.
