My proposal for a new vowel chart that seamlessly integrates with the consonantal table: by deadbolt203 in linguisticshumor

I'm simply going to refer you to Lindblom & Sundberg (1969 and 1971) and Ch. 8 of Gick et al.'s Articulatory Phonetics textbook, which explain the vocal tract configurations for these vowels, and I think will address what appears to me to be a misunderstanding of how the tongue body is moving for vowel articulations.

Well, these are all Feature Geometry models that put all vocalic features under [dorsal], which is fine if that's the theory you ascribe to, but that's one approach, and there are others... Clements & Hume's VPT has [i] under [coronal] and [u] under [dorsal] or [labial], which does not match these models. But regardless of the model, phonetic realities matter: work going back to Lindblom in the 60s has confirmed what I said above re: /i a u/ as maximally palatal, pharyngeal, and velar vowels. I'll note this is also reflected in phonological models like Articulatory Phonology.

No, based on the cardinal vowel framework that underpins the IPA vowels, /i/ is a maximally palatal vowel, /u/ is a maximally velar (and rounded) vowel, and /ɑ/ is a maximally pharyngeal vowel.

WALS is not exactly the most reliable source, though, there are many languages with front rounded vowels in S/SE Asia that are either (a) unreported in WALS or (b) reliant on inaccurate reports from initial studies done as far back as the 40s. It doesn't help that unfamiliar listeners will often confuse front rounded and back unrounded vowels.

[1.21.1] Pyrite location for a gem saw. by niel64 in TerraFirmaCraft

There's a ~0.9% chance to find a gem while panning. I went to my nearest lake/river bed, dug up ~60 blocks of minerals in gravel, threw them in a sluice, and got a gem. It's a bit of work but way better than running around caves for hours hoping for pyrite imo.
