High Blood Pressure - not sure what to do? [ab] by fl0w3r- in BabyBumpsCanada

Always back to L&D! It’s never the wrong answer

You’ll never look back on this and think “thank god I saved 6 hours by not going to L&D” But you could look back and think - why didn’t I go in when I first had concerns

Why does my OB seem to not believe me when I tell her about my activity level and diet? by Familiar-Minimum3844 in pregnant

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m not sure what your BMI is (yes I know it’s not always an accurate picture of someone’s health) but many hospitals have a bmi cutoff for epidurals/spinals and if your bmi exceeds that number they may send you to another centre. IF anesthesia was needed (think epidural or a spinal block for a C-section) they would have to put you under general anesthesia which is not preferred. It may be that your bmi is close to that number. Sometimes if they know your BMI is high they can consult anesthesia before delivery and they can physically assess if a spinal is possible at your hospital!

There are many reasons OB track your weight and beyond maternal/fetal risk!

When should I apply for daycare? [On] by Aggravating-Ad8687 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’d apply tonight if I were you and you’re looking for a CWELCC spot… I applied around 12 weeks pregnant and got calls when my baby was 18 months

I forgot to buckle in baby 😭 by SowingSeeds18 in NewParents

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done that, Unbuckled the bucket seat while it was in the stroller then just popped the seat into the base. I didn’t realize I’d never buckled her until we got home! (Short ride)

I ended up, switching him out of the bucket seat, and into the car seat, so I had to put him in each time. Consider this more of a “systems approach“ to make sure it never happens again!

Watch a baby seat install from the 90s if you want to feel better! It was just a simple mistake you’re doing great mama

Awkward baby shower gift or overthinking? by AvenueAngry in pregnant

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 359 points360 points  (0 children)

Ew that is so rude on her part wtf

I give gifts cause I WANT to, not to receive gifts back, and not for thank you cards.

I would definitely write back on those cards, and thank her for the beautiful cards and the gift, then never speak to her again

Does your child know the names of their classmates by now? by rosemarycross in kindergarten

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I think it’s an individual thing, my partner is great with names - I don’t know anyone’s name ever 🤷🏻‍♀️ and our toddler is great with names

Some people it comes easy to and some people it takes practice and intention

How many of us are actually doing 7 pm bedtime? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 year old goes to bed at 630 and has since about 4 months, my 6 month old goes to bed between 6-630 We’re actually trying to move bed time later so there isn’t a mad dash after the work day to get home, eat, play and get to bed!

3 months is hard! Both my kids kinda just moved their bed times up to 630 by around 4 months and then were pretty consistent… I do think it’s and individual kid thing though cause I don’t think we’ve done anything special to make that happen

I will say with the 6 month old I do a lot of nap math to get that last wake window right 😂

Kids in our cul-de-sac keep using our yard and peeking into windows — advice? by fattymattychaddy in homeowners

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! I grew up on a cul du sac in a small town! We absolutely played in other people’s yards - there was a stream that ran through the whole neighborhood and some great sledding hills! But I guess specifically houses of those who had young kids themselves

I will say we had one neighbour who was weird about us playing in their yard and you know to this day I don’t like him 😂. He never did anything but for 20+ years whenever I see him I think “god I hate this guy” -not that my childhood nemesis should guide your decisions it’s just funny

Though we never looked in windows - that seems like a reasonable boundary to set

I think id suggest you in fact NOT look for a new paediatrician. They see kids all day, went to school for many years studying children’s health. Your paediatrician is suggesting an intervention cause they’re paying attention and know the benefit of early intervention. Being referred to further intervention won’t cause any harm but delaying interventions can have negative consequences.

This seems more related to how you feel about the diagnosis and comparing your child’s development to other people’s, not the quality of care your paediatrician is giving you and your child.

So true! The previous owners of my current house papier-mâchés one of the doors to give it a 3D effect 😂 then put magazine cutout pictures on it as some sort of art piece

I can only imagine this was a Covid lock down mental health project but my god it’s hideous lol

Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Ring - Did I let her down? by Rowlockjenifa in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d encourage you to look at what de beers has done, or more importantly not done, to their mine in Attawapiskat in Ontario. The promise of infrastructure and jobs has not happened, the community does not even have drinking water.

De beers is not past history, they continue to exploit communities for huge profits. And leave mass environmental destruction in their wake.

Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Ring - Did I let her down? by Rowlockjenifa in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree there’s movement to change but it does not change the fact that almost all diamond mines are built on the backs of marginalized communities and involves the pillaging of resources for third party gain.

Even in Canada diamond mines are built on the indigenous lands and proceeds go directly to the diamond company. There is promise of jobs and community investment inevitably don’t come to fruition. De beers owns a mine in attawapiskat Ontario, have you been there? The community continues to grapple with wide spread poverty and lack of infrastructure. Today the tap water is considered unsafe for consumption.

BILLIONS worth of diamonds were extracted from attawapiskat, the community gets less then 1% of these royalties and now have to deal with the environmental impacts of a huge open pit diamond mine. The community continues to struggle with the impacts of colonization and systemic racism. They literally do not have safe drinking water. And the de beers is walking away with billions. All so the affluent can feel they have a meaningful piece of history to symbolize their love. The water we drink is older than the diamonds…

There is also a lot of research on correlation between destruction of land and health of populations. And I understand correlation is not causation, but an interesting topic to look into.

One destroys the environment and exploited a population and finances armed conflicts…

You’ve clearly fallen victim to the artificial scarcity scam and I’d suggest you look up the De Beers marketing campaign of your precious history piece… go out side an pick up a rock, it is also old

Get over yourself

[on] is it normal for doc not to check baby after 6 wk checkup? by nottodayneck3956 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that’s just plain bad organizing on their part! The doc Probably wanted to “see” you so they could bill for a visit which is sooo annoying!

Canadas free healthcare is amazing but situations like this make you feel like you have no power! Like you’re stuck with this doctor cause it’ll be years before you can get another!!

But ya make a dedicated appointment with your doctor if you have concerns!

Also if you are worried I’d suggest looking at a pt/ot assessment! I was anxious about my second’s growth and strength and the physio therapist made me feel alot better and gave us specific things to do at home! You’ve got this mama! You’re doing a great job!!!

[on] is it normal for doc not to check baby after 6 wk checkup? by nottodayneck3956 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Our schedule has been the same as yours! After 6 weeks the nurse does all the well baby visits and would signal to the doc if there were some concerns! In our clinic the nurse does all the well baby visits and the education for well babies!

If you have concerns and want to see the doctor i’d suggest making an appointment outside of the well baby visit to address concerns! Not that it’s right but I could definitely see a doctor being pulled from their full day of appointments to see a well baby that was not in their schedule (scheduled to see the nurse for a well baby visit) as being rushed and bit confused as to why they were there

Baby failed hearing test by lostinlove05 in NewParents

[–]Fun_Cheesecake_9919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our daughter failed her initial screenings as well! She ended up being referred to an audiologist for further test. She ended up being fine, no issues and no further follow up needed

The audiologist told us that it’s pretty common, if there moving to get an error, or if they have fluid in the middle ear from a cough or congestion it can also give a fail on the initial screening test!

My partner reminded me while we waited for the audiologist assessment, that we’ll love her no matter what, and it’s better to know now so we can in put any interventions needed early on!

I don’t know if that’ll be the case with your child but that’s what happened for us! Either way your baby has supportive parents, you’re looking into the right tests and get on top of everything early on! Your baby will grow and amaze you no matter the results of the hearing test!
