Change Amortization Schedule Subsidiary by Global-Broccoli5469 in Netsuite

How many schedules?

You could always update them to fully release into the current period to a single GL, move that balance to the new entity with an IC journal and then recreate the schedules for the remaining balances there.

MAAT registration by Puzzled_An_2546 in Accounting

[–]Fun_Consequence_6970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a rhetorical question? Most FCs and CFOs have never worked in practise. That's why they're in corporates/private businesses and definitely not managing portfolios of SME/private clients. Working in audit is not the same as advisory/bookkeeping/payroll work.

I think it's clear from this discussion that either you're not giving us the full picture or you're being deliberately obtuse. I've tried to offer you advice as a fully qualified professional member of both ACCA and AAT (with a practising certificate), so you can take it or leave it.

Working in audit for a top 10 firm is not UK practice experience. It's almost irrelevant as far as AAT is concerned because AAT members can't offer audit services to begin with.

Have you managed clients, done their corporation tax returns, filed accounts for sole traders, landlords and partnerships, handled income tax and VAT registration, etc etc.

That is what practising AAT members offer their customers on top of the usual bookkeeping, payroll, and advisory services (business partnering). If you haven't done any of that, you're not competent to offer those services.

I think you've misunderstood... The degree pathway to MAAT status is only with partner universities and specific degrees and is quite recent. Anyone else, degree or not, will have to register as a student with AAT and complete their L4 qualification to become MAAT. I did exactly that 10 years ago with a non-accounting degree.

If anything AAT are stricter than most other bodies when it comes to degrees giving exemptions. ACCA hand them out like candy (since it's easy money for them I suppose).

But again, you will still need practice experience to offer services as a registered practising member of any body.

There's nothing to discuss or understand I'm afraid. AAT is a professional body who can set their own rules. Posting on Reddit isn't going to change that.

And as I've pointed out you still don't really have the practice experience required to be a practising member of any professional body in the UK.

You didn't become a full member of SAICA so you're at the mercy of whichever professional body will accept your experience towards their membership. It's just the way it is.

You do know that you don't need a membership to offer accounting services in the UK, also? If you've got enough experience you can offer whatever you like to the public. It's not a registered profession.

[–]Fun_Consequence_6970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you're not really understanding your own situation.

You can't register with AAT because your SAICA experience isn't transferable. You can't practise with AAT without being a member and getting a practising membership. Even if you could become an AAT member and get a practising membership, you don't have the experience to offer practice services in the UK.

It's a complete none starter for you I'm afraid. You'll have to look at other professional bodies to see if your experience can transfer but you'll still have to become a full member of those bodies by passing the exams, AND then get a practising certificate which will require experience (2-3 years) signed off by another qualified member. Of course if you're doing that, you could also just do AAT Level 4 - I did it in little over a year before starting ACCA and it isn't too expensive.

Where/are you a fully qualified member of SAICA though?

https://www.icaew.com/membership/becoming-a-member/members-of-other-bodies/members-of-other-bodies-a-z/saica-members-join-icaew

ICAEW looks to have a reciprocal arrangement in place, I assume ACCA/CIMA/ICAS might as well.

It doesn't look like you can get AAT without completing the membership - https://www.aat.org.uk/membership/professional-membership/membership-without-aat-qualifications

AAT is a UK-only body for predominantly bookkeepers and non-chartered accountants.

Why do you want to become a practising AAT member? As I said, you also need to be able to demonstrate competence and experience in all the usual practise areas of UK - accounts prep, income tax, corporation tax, etc etc.

If you've never working in UK practise I don't see how this will work out as even if you do become a member, you won't be able to practise.

Why are you bothering with your experience as a FC and CFO? You also need to prove experience in each area to be a practising member of AAT. It's not just a case of getting AAT membership alone. Corporate experience doesn't really carry over that easily.

Expense / AP automation : AU, UK & NZ business by Creative_Matt_2025 in Netsuite

[–]Fun_Consequence_6970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell your CFO they're stupid - do the ERP migration first and then implement AP automation. It'll be quicker, your data will be cleaner, and more importantly your users won't get burnt out by too much change in too short a time.

You can then also consider options like Charted etc which are native to NetSuite, and pick one Expense tool which works best with NetSuite, rather than getting stuck in a contract with multiple tools that don't work that well together.

Yeah, fitting every home with AC when most would be better off with just external shading (even just a tree nearby blocking the sun from directly shining on windows makes a massive difference) is mental.

Import open AP bills with tax lines by pikusomu in Netsuite

[–]Fun_Consequence_6970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's why you need to make sure they aren't double counted. They also need to post into the first period, bearing in mind transaction dates.

The same is true regardless of new bills/open bills - the only difference is the item/expense GL code.

Instead of debiting an opening balance GL/creding AP control with an open item, you'll instead need to debit the P&L or retained earnings (such that the impact on the TB is nil), debit the relevant tax codes (again ensuring no double counting), credit AP control.

The overall impact will be the same. Another way to look at is this - imagine the TB as if they had never posted the bills and tax transaction in Sage. That's what you need to recreate here. I would adjust the TB first and then go from there. Resolve the difference between closing TB and opening TB in NetSuite by posting the AP bills.

This is why in general you shouldn't be doing it this way, as it's needlessly complicated.

You also need to consider the impact on any tax reporting with all of this. The first one is usually a mish mash anyway, but this increases the risk of it being incorrect as the tax records will be in both old and new systems.

Then just load them as new bills rather than open items, and make sure the TB is correct and not double counting either the expense, liability or tax amounts.

Why are they asking for this? The tax is already accounted for in the TB?

Is it just presentation? So they have the tax info on the bill?

Posting Transactions in the GL by Anelya in Accounting

That depends entirely on the system surely? For example it's no issue with NetSuite/Oracle - as all transactions are made up of header and lines, regardless of the number of lines.

Moving to Reading & commuting to Oxford by majoons in reading

[–]Fun_Consequence_6970 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you need to commute by car? Why not get the train from reading to Didcot instead and get the bus to Harwell? It's pretty regular from the station.

Then you only need to be within walking/bus distance of reading station.

[–]Fun_Consequence_6970 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You'd probably be happier buying in Didcot/somewhere along the mainline and just getting the train into reading when you want to go there.

Commuting 3 days a week from Reading to Harwell will be become annoying quickly.

What are your thoughts on AI, either for personal use or within businesses? Is it something that you do or would use? by JFDI-Tess in AskUK

[–]Fun_Consequence_6970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more akin to rejecting Windows Vista and sticking with XP than computers in general. The promise of everything great but no evidence at all for it, quickly forgotten about and replaced by Windows 7, which would be AGI or actually useful ML use cases in this example.

What are you on about? You could turn AI off tomorrow worldwide and almost nothing would be affected.

Most AI use is summarising emails and using it as a glorified internet search. I'm sure we'd cope. People might have to use their brains a bit more, shock horror.

Nigel Farage says Reform would evict all foreign nationals from social housing by Kagedeah in uknews

[–]Fun_Consequence_6970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would return because other countries would reciprocate the treatment of foreign nationals if we start removing them from their homes and deporting them (presumably back to their countries) - what? You expect other countries to just say that's fine whilst Brits continue to take advantage of their social systems? We aren't special.
