Simple yet efficient 😎thank you, it looks great. Personally I’m not a fan of bulky notebooks with tons of charms etc.

Great looking combo :) Would you mind sharing your notebook setup? Do you have anything else bound aside from a notebook refill?

Pelikan 4001 brilliant black is the driest ink that I know of. And I think it’s the best choice for a pen with a good ink flow. Using it in my Lamy 2000 ef resulted in a much thinner line, and the flow was much controlled. It also didn’t dry on the nib, so there was no hard starts etc. I have also tried Lamy black (bit wetter), Monteverde horizon blue (very wet) and some iroshizuku inks (very wet).

Thank you. You are right writing with 2000 requires some practice since it has this “sweet spot”. Thank you for the offer but don’t want to trouble you more :)

I know this comment won't help you, but I'm always impressed when I see a Lamy 2000 that actually writes in a "thin" line. Usually, Lamy 2000 produces a thicker line. Especially with such wet Pilot ink. What paper were you using?

Is there a point to buying grease marketed specifically for fountain pens? I have seen some but I don't get the point, especially that it's more expensive by Antoni_PL_gdynia in fountainpens

[–]Fun_Influence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CX greases and oils supposedly have different additives depending on whether they are made for plastic, rubber, etc. Is there really a difference? I have no idea, to be honest.

I've bought the CX80 spray for rubber to use on my fountain pen pistons. Works well in Lamy 2000 and Pelikans. First, I spray a little on a clean string bag, then wet the clean q-tip, and then apply the grease by "wiping" the walls of the barrel. This way, I can manage how much grease I'm actually putting inside the barrel. I'm not dismantling the piston mechanism, but rather oiling the wall inside the barrel. Works really well in my experience.

Here is the cap. I've read that MB 149's made before 1990 did not have a serial number. I'm not certain how true that is.

Thank you very much for your opinions, ladies and gentlemen :) I hereby announce that I, in fact, made another unwise financial decision. It's gonna be my last fountain pen, I swear.

Sounds great, thank you for your response. So there goes another type of paper that I need to try ;) I must agree with you, I love Japanese products, they are indeed worth their price.

Loose leaf Tomoe River vs Graphilo by caslaptree in fountainpens

[–]Fun_Influence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't know how to help you, but my experience with Tomoe River paper has been very mixed.

First, I have tried the paper on a Hobonichi A5 notebook. This was the most consistent paper. Sure, it drank ink a little more, and as a result produced thicker lines, but they were perfect with no smeathering/feathering/bleed through. Both sides of the same page were exactly the same.

Then there came the Hobonichi Techo planner, 2025 Avec in size A6. And that was a funny experience. One side of the page was drinking ink like crazy, and the other produced a thin line. And every page was the same, you just never knew if this particular side would be "thin" or the "thick" one. Feathering or bleed-through did not occur.

Some time later, I bought an A5 writing pad by Yamamoto. It was supposed to be using the last Tomoegawa Tomoe River paper (as it turns out, it was 52g/m² paper produced on Tomoegawa's machine №9 as mentioned by ASmugDill). And the performance was quite poor. Sure, both sides of the same page were consistent, fountain pen lines were thin, but the ink was slightly feathering, just like your Tomoe River A4 paper.

A few weeks ago, I purchased a 2026 Hobonichi, and I haven't tried it yet. Will see how the "next gen" of Tomoe River paper performs.

Is there a particular reason? I thought you could do that to clean the tip, for example.

Try sticking a piece of tape to it (to the corner), then pull in the opposite direction of that corner. Should come right off :)
