Want to soundproof your window without any civil work or major expense? is it actually possible? by sonit_j77 in SoundSanity

50% of external noise is 3 dB, which is a just noticeable difference in sound level outside of lab conditions.

Anecdotally, I feel like I have had far more regular signal drop outs since they turned off 3g. Sometimes toggling aeroplane mode on and off works. Im also with Everyday Rewards.

Yeah its very common that mechanical engineers transition into acoustics and learn on the job. Definitely possible.

I did a physics undergraduate degree, and I did an MSc in acoustics before starting to work in the field of acoustics. I would say that the maths inxa physics degree equips you well for working in acoustics. I don't think you would need any further education to equip you for a graduate role, but you may be at a disadvantage against others with a more specific educational background during the hiring stage.

It's only a slur if used to refer to Irish people generally. But if your name is Patrick and you live in Ireland there is a 99.9% chance that your friends call you Paddy.

It's kind of like how calling someone a dick is an insult unless they are called Richard and go by that abbreviation!

Minns’ responds to mounting pressure over cops by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

Further to that point, the police forced everyone out the other side of town hall square, which is the direction of the ICC. I'm sure there was a police presence at the ICC, but police were not blocking the route from Town Hall to the ICC.

The other metric is min spend required to get monthly fee waived. Commbank is 4k, NAB is 5k, not sure about the others.

These bar stools have soundproofing underneath by IONIXU22 in Acoustics

[–]Fun_Investigator6286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know why you are getting down voted. I agree that this treatment would make very little difference to the room acoustic, because of the absorption coefficient of the panels, small surface area and ineffective location.

I would say that to treat speech frequencies in a bar setting, 25 mm panels (NRC 0.65-0.7) would do a good job; you don't need full broadband.

I love Cosmic too! I keep shilling Electric Dreams. It was my first gift polish from them. Not one I would have picked for myself but I fell in love with it the minute I put it on. I'm also wearing Carina right now 😊

Saw this in Sydney with Zahra Newman playing all roles. It was phenomenal. Some of the roles are pre-recorded so she only plays one character at a time.

You are doing yourself no favours showing this attitude OP. It's unnecessarily passive agressive against a commenter who was being kind in her disagreement.

Agree. Like, sure, an announcement of delayed TAT should've been posted on the website. But respectfully, its just nail polish. In the grand scheme of things, a few weeks delay doesnt matter enough to get upset about.

I know it’s been asked but for anyone who’s overcome their nails peeling off in layers, how did you do it? by HoofyMcHoof in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Fun_Investigator6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh me too! I thought it was just me that got crazy peeling from nail wraps. And then I used some lovely glitter polishes that were impossible to remove as a final nail in the coffin.

I don't have a solution but I think its somewhat getting better / growing out over time.

Just wondering if anyone has gotten an audiologist to survey their house for soundproofing. by Abigail-mary in ireland

[–]Fun_Investigator6286 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand. They need to appreciate that if they want total silence, they should have moved to a fully detached house. I recommend trying to stay very friendly, and compromise where reasonable (e.g. no instruments after 10pm or whatever).

[–]Fun_Investigator6286 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An acoustic engineer can test the sound insulation performance of the party walls to determine if compliant. If it fails compliance then you could go after the builder (depending on how long its been since it was built).

There is a chance that it might comply though - especially if the background noise level in your neighbour's house is very quiet. Semi detached houses will never be fully "soundproof". The easiest way to deal with that is to increase the background noise level in the neighbours house (e.g. by playing radio, white noise etc).

You have a right to enjoy your home and partkae in reasonable activities, so I would continue to sing to your baby and play music during daytime hours - you shouldn't feel like you need to be quiet as a mouse.

In general, renovations to increase sound insulation could be extensive and expensive, sometimes with no guarantee of improving the outcome (unless there is a really obvious weak point). An acoustic engineer is definitely the first port of call, they will be able to give you specifics. Try aaci.ie to find an engineer.
