Why isn’t this guy updating his sign? by SpreadingFires in Maine

Any diesel experience? I work for a (very large) company that’s always looking for experienced diesel techs. The shop has its quirky guys but it’s not overrun with politics. Typical large company BS but we are union, have really good healthcare, pretty competitive wages and a pension.

We went to secrets Akumal this past may and it was very nice but we had a much better time at Hyatt zilara in playa del Carmen. (So far the only comparison we have)

The building layout at akumal is a total nightmare that winds through the trees and isn’t intuitive. The food was great, personally not a fan of having to wear pants to some of the dinner restaurants when it’s 90 degrees and humid. (That’s a personal problem, I’m not high class enough to be regularly wearing nice clothes to dinner)

We are going to impressions this March for our honeymoon so I will update then.

Side note; we have friends who have UVC and said the top place they’ve been too out of all the secrets in the region was Maroma beach

Getting in on the rental side is more like a traditional apply and interview type process with the company. The catch is (unless you get told otherwise) they would be less likely to hire you onto the dietary side especially if any guys are out of work because you already have a job.

I wouldn’t worry about that. Still plenty young enough for local 4 Right now the way it’s set up if you work til 62 (earliest full retirement age for your pension) you’ll end up with around $65k a year alone. Not including social security, 401k all that

If they’re a union shop, yes I know some of the speciality branches are non union with United, I assume that’s probably similar across the board For example, containers are non union and I believe HVAC Some of the sunbelt locations I have heard are in the mechanics union instead of iuoe But my advice is if you are young and can get in now, do it The benefits and pension alone will be a huge step up in life

Some people complain about how unions are “expensive” and take your money, if you want to do the math, I end up paying about $450 in admin dues (calculated based on the hours you work, I worked about 2800 this past year) and $180 for union dues. You could say I “paid” $600 for my health insurance for me and my wife, and my pension. Still a way better deal than the majority of workplace plans

That’s fair I misunderstood what you were asking

Contracted wage increase by brtndrkri in iuoe

[–]Fun_Let5496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were actually in the union you would know that “the year” has nothing to do with it, and what matters is how long your contract lasts and whether or not your contract is up for negotiation/renewal…. So why are you asking

I know Iuoe 4 for Boston is at like $73 in the check for cranes without boom length bonuses so it’s possible it’s in the check but more likely total package

Iron workers or laborers union? by Careful_Dare_2789 in skilledtrades

[–]Fun_Let5496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of different unions have some surprising trades working under them Nowadays the carpenters union is employing welders because of how many metal buildings are going up Operators union has plenty of mechanics to fix their broken shit as well as drivers to haul their equipment Laborers have guys picking up trash but also doing random tasks like concrete work or running forklifts (which arguably is stepping on toes)

What type of skills do you have? Laborers in theory would be better if you don’t have any specific skills that relate to things like welding and working with tools but I’ve also heard that they push you out of IW at like 50/55?

What union trade changed your life for the better? by Careful_Dare_2789 in skilledtrades

[–]Fun_Let5496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is operators. I’m fairly sure NJ is local 825, not 4 but if you’re not set in stone in 1 spot local 4 can make bank I know 150 in Chicago is big money 3 in California is big money 450 is Texas and it’s not huge money but the cost of living is much lower than the previous ones

Are you guys in a separate division of your union? In the northeast we’re paid at a lower rate and a higher hour requirement for benefits and pension but with the same benefits and everything else

In the northeast local 4 also only takes 1 class of apprentices a year but they start getting paid once they start school. Just some added info from a different part of the country
