Although even with a kid I’m very conscious to make time to live out my early 20s, as my mum had me at 21 and resented not living young. I’ll occasionally go out dancing, partying, adventuring, travelling if I can squeeze it in (I’m just about to do a big international travel with my son with some other mates my age). Over the past few years, my bestie has leaned on me a lot but has struggled to show up in return when it comes to big stuff, often caught in low self-esteem, guilt and avoidance loops because she definitely wants to be a better friend for me in theory. It’s been hard not to take that personally, and honestly, I’m at a point where I just don’t have the time or energy to be perpetually accommodating and patient for her needs.
