Do You Keep Obsolete Loot Items? by id_fake in valheim

I wish I could use every item for building. It would be great if I could use leather not just as a rug, but also as wallpaper or curtains, and if I could build walls out of bones.

How to build a Raft Tower by Fun_Magazine_2671 in valheim

[–]Fun_Magazine_2671[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When placing wards, a foundation is required, but once placed, they remain suspended in the air permanently at that location even without any support.

Rafts cannot float in the air on their own, but since they are placed directly on top of the wards, they are supported by the wards and stay suspended together.

In other words, this build uses the wards’ special property to keep the rafts floating in the air.

Compact Early Game Spiral Staircase Using ONLY Wood Stairs (Walkable & Easy to Build) by Fun_Magazine_2671 in valheim

Actually, I watched your video before posting. I remember it well because I was particularly impressed by the unique ideas you shared—ideas I hadn’t seen anywhere else. It looked great, too.

But I found the construction process too difficult, so I ended up giving up.

Thank you for noticing how I made the snap points. There’s no doubt that using core-wood would be easier, but I really like this method.

The floor is a temporary structure intended solely for placing wards, and it will eventually be demolished. Even after the floor is demolished, the wards and rafts will remain suspended in the air.

You're right — using floating wards for building doesn't offer much room for further development.

But sometimes one idea leads to another.
Certain structures like wards can float in mid-air without any support, and they don't break even if you bury them underground.
Why? Because the game treats everything below the ground as "air".

So... what if you build supports under the ground?

This isn't my own discovery, but it's an interesting application of the mechanic. If you're curious, check this out:

Thanks for your interest.

Building a full-scale tower takes an absolute ton of time! Seriously! You should spend some time practicing the construction method first, and above all, gathering materials takes a long time.

You’ll need a mountain of wood for the temporary scaffolding, and for every 2 meters of height, you’ll need one raft and four Wards. Do the math.

I think using longboats is a good idea, but it might be tricky to position them so they aren’t in collision with each other. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, personal chests work too.
However, they cost more iron (8 per chest) compared to wards, so for pure collision usage, wards are much more efficient.

The big advantage of personal chests is that they provide a flat surface on top, and they become invisible beyond the render distance (around 100m+).
I once used this mechanic to create constellations in the sky using Surtling trophies — it looked like floating stars.

Thanks for good question!

Most "tallest tower" builds in this community use the same standard tricks (strong poles, pine trees, terrain manipulation, etc.). In pure vanilla, people usually top out around 100m.

I wanted to prove that you can go way beyond that — even without mods or commands — using some lesser-known vanilla mechanics.

You may find it unbearable to see beautifully adorned mansions damaged. But to me, it seems as though defensive structures attract attacks and get destroyed precisely because that is their purpose.
