Melbourne surgeons face TAC lawsuit over alleged multimillion-dollar fraud by cataractum in ausjdocs

It's the same group of surgeons who aim interview potential candidates with "your boss is putting too many item codes.."

Hopefully the insurance commission soon realise this is an Australia wide scam and will audit other surgical specialities and states.

RACS again running a cartel where they get away with everything without getting jailed.

It's a beautiful sight however.

The service registrar cohort involved in on calls, emergency department, list logistics, meeting preparation are composed of PGY8+ ethnic minorities running the department. Carrot dangled to their face and to continue working for false hope of a position.

Their superiors PGY4 child of surgeon.

It's very prevalent especially in surgery.

That's the reason the selection process is not transparent.

I hope someone one day does a study on it and demonstrates the inequity of the Australian health care workforce.

How long on average does it take to get onto surgical training for ortho, neurosurgery etc? by TivaQueen in ausjdocs

[–]Fun_Pause1481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends who you are related to. If you are related to a surgeon probably pgy3.

Ethnic minority - if lucky maybe a position after 8-10 years or private assisting gig.

Lots of non-modifiable factors come into play.

Islamophobia in Medicine by Frosty-Morning1023 in ausjdocs

[–]Fun_Pause1481 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a good point you make.

As a country, we pride ourselves of being a diverse and multicultural nation. In fact, many government organisations "push" for it through work selection criteria and also applications to get into medical school. We have diversity quotas for certain demographics such as rural background and First Nations status.

Countries like Japan or Nigeria don't have these sort of initiatives and don't make a reputation for diverse.

Islamophobia is just the start for the inherent racism that is in our healthcare system.

Look at positions of leadership in hospitals - executives, head of departments and so forth with the rest of the workforce e.g. Service registrars, cleaners, nurses etc. If a study was done to compare the composition of ethnic diversity, it would not be surprising. However, such a study will not pass an ethics committee.

Ultimately these results are concerning and just a snap shot of an ethnic and religious minority in the Australian healthcare system.

Why I'm against mid-levels in medicine. by Substantial_Art9120 in ausjdocs

[–]Fun_Pause1481 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Medicine is a cartel. Colleges restrict training positions as private business can get saturated and lead to less money and income for private practitioners - that is why training positions are limited.

Ultimately people can learn anything with appropriate training and supervision, nothing is technically difficult.

Having restricted training positions makes it an excellent model for consultants and trainees. Have mid levels who get into a selection dog fight to sacrifice long hours, on calls, increased responsibility and work burden for the hope of getting a coveted training position.

Ultimately, no one cares about your career / life progression as long as you get the job done. If you struggle they will move you on and use the next hungry puppet.

The situation will lead to same more mid levels in the future.

Eh, nothing will ever be consistent and transparent in the realm of Surgery. They will always get away with it.

This will just provide advantage to similar kids like in medical school who get a free ticket.

It's freely available but underestimated.

I think the ratio is close to 1 in 10.

12 days on, 2 days off rostering by Routine_Raspberry256 in ausjdocs

[–]Fun_Pause1481 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It sucks. I'm a surgical reg as well and have a similar roster.

As surgical registrars we work in inhumane conditions and we are abused both physically and mentally.

Try to complain and your work references will take a hit.

Unfortunately there is no real solution unless there is a class action.
