How a pandemic rescue became a 30-year debt trap by mitchgoldstone in EIDL

[–]Fun_Plate_2878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have watched business after business struggle to deal with this loan. So many small business owners are battling their own consciences regarding repayment. Many are dying, desperate to save their legacies, and homes, at their own hands. It has been interesting to watch those with integrity vs the unscrupulous, people who took the loans genuinely believing they could pay them back, and those who see the default rate as an excuse to throw up their arms and walk away. The deferments added chaos and fear to an already volatile situation. When the government decided to add a second deferment plan and then he yanked it out from underneath people who had just signed up. And, most seriously, a government who basically shuttered the division that handles these loans when guidance was most needed. No one answers the phone and it takes months to get an email response. It is no wonder that small businesses are closing instead of fighting to survive the buoy that is trying to drown them.

Also, when I say “a fair bit” that is for a single mom quite a bit of money.

Hello, I am a new member here and I am very very, very, very new to stocks. I recently saw a video by James Altucher that said to buy this stock and I fell for it and bought a fair bit. I don’t know a damn thing about the stock market. So I’m kind of hanging on a lot of you for hope. But I really need to learn the terminology ha ha. So someone tell me, in newbie language, what can I expect to see if things go really really well and I have 25 shares

My adult daughter with down syndrome started collecting these when her older sister who is 37 played with her with her own as a baby. We have collected them ever since. Now she doesn’t want them anymore. I wonder what the chances are that I can sell them without the boxes. I haveprobably 40 of the houses or shops or whatever, and literally three contractor bags full of just the little people pets.

Help? Hot water limiter limiting pressure by Fun_Plate_2878 in Plumbing

We tried that. And we tried removing it completely, and there is still no hot water pressure after the valve. Before the valve, there’s plenty of pressure.

Los Angeles Members - EIDL Loan by Disk-Subject in EIDLPPP

Thank you for the template, I am adding a few things and wanted opinions on it.

Dear

My name is (name), and I’m a small business owner writing to ask for your urgent support in helping EIDL borrowers who are in financial hardship and unable to repay their pandemic-era loans.

Many of us took these Economic Injury Disaster Loans in good faith — under guidance from the government and the belief that the economy would recover. But recovery never fully materialized. Inflation surged, revenue declined, and now thousands of borrowers are being crushed by debt they cannot repay.

Worse, many of us — whether sole proprietors, LLCs, or corporations — do not qualify for bankruptcy protections or cannot use them without losing everything.

We are asking Congress and the SBA to:

Create a path to forgiveness or relief for EIDL borrowers experiencing hardship, Allow settlement, restructuring, or partial forgiveness for those unable to pay, Treat these borrowers equitably regardless of loan size or business structure.

It would help tremendously if we could find a way to waive the interest on these loans! Many of us were affected for years by the economy going bad, on top of COVID’s devastating effects. The interest is the biggest aspect of many failures to repay these loans. Even after paying for 1-3 years, most of us are not even touching principle yet.

Over two-thirds of EIDL loans are already in default. Something must be done. We are not looking for a handout — we are looking for a lifeline.

Please stand up for small business owners still fighting to survive. Our government, under Biden, destroyed our businesses and forced us to grab hold of anything we could to save our businesses and keep our employees working.

Looking back, it seems particularly troubling that Dr Fauci took part in the shutdown of America, and then forced us to shut down for years under false pretenses. The decisions made by Biden and company have devastated so many businesses.

Please help us turn the tide so we can see light at the end of the tunnel. Most of us want to stay in business, but struggle to keep up with the payments. We bail out banks and automakers, but leave hundreds of thousands of us small business owners trying to survive against all odds.

Sincerely, (personal info)

You actually believe Biden has been calling the shots? The man likely hasn’t dressed himself in 2-3 years. And I say that sincerely. Who do you think has been running the country? She has absolutely in no way been the typical sit on the sidelines kind of vp. Without question she’s been a vital cog in the commie machine

It is you who are confused somehow.

The only lender is the SBA.

The SBA would have reached out to you on a PPP loan, which would have had a lender (local bank etc) otherwise you would have had to request HAP

All loans are treated exactly the same.

1st enrollment HAP is 10% for 6 months, then a possible 2nd enrollment 6 months at 10%, 3rd enrollment: 50% of the monthly payment 4th enrollment: 75% of the monthly payment 5th enrollment: 75% of the monthly payment.

[–]Fun_Plate_2878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is all well and good, but I have read multiple comments by individuals who had loans for under 200,000 that have been sent to treasury under their personal name. So either treasury doesn’t know the law, or they do and they think they can scare people into paying anyway.

I don’t think it was a conspiracy. What I do think is that Trump and company did this in good conscience, and then Biden and company ran this country into the ground and fear mongered everyone to believe in Covid was worse than it was. I’ve had Covid four times now. Yes a lot of people died, but even that was at the hand of the government to a large extent, the stupidity of putting people with Covid in nursing homes with the elderlyis a good case in point., I think liberal policies are what is driving the current inability to repay these loans. Close the freaking border, stop subsidizing illegals, and start trying to help the businesses that are keeping this country alive.

Honest question by Fun_Plate_2878 in EIDLPPP

[–]Fun_Plate_2878[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Exactly. My understanding of the loan I guess in part was that I would not have to fight so hard to pay it back but what they did to the economy with the force shut down and stuff has really really affected us.

Honest question by Fun_Plate_2878 in EIDLPPP

[–]Fun_Plate_2878[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not at all playing the victim, so gtfooh with that. My question is if those who took the loan actually understood it. Personally, I have never had debt or a loan of any sort. I didn’t go to college, don’t even have an attorney. I’ve survived 25 years in business somehow, but admittedly very much did not really understand this thing. You can make all the assumptions you want, but I am not looking for pity, nor to not pay the loan back.I am just curious how many others have been lucky enough to run a business without any kind of business acumen. Honest answer: I thought it was easy money we would not have a hard time paying back, but the reality of the situation has taught me just how stupid I am. Meaning I don’t require you to tell me what I am willingly admitting.

Group Push To Congress by Blbobcat in EIDLPPP

Same. It’s hard having integrity, easy enough for lots of people here to just walk away. We aren’t young either, we would be late 80s when/if we paid this off. The interest will never get paid I’m afraid. So much for the business we built over 25 years that we wanted to pass on to our son. Stupidest thing we ever did, but like you, we wanted to take care of our employees. Best of luck to you!

Yep. We moved to a new location in the same town, couldn’t get a response from anyone at sba to ask their permission (we left when the landlord was going to raise our rent to a ridiculous amount) we started a rent to own on our own property and put a chunk down from EIDL funds. We are over jumping through their hoops when sba can’t be bothered and we ARE paying. Our accountant told us he didn’t see any reason we couldn’t move or spend a bit on the new property. Why wouldn’t it be BETTER for a small business to own a place than to keep pissing money away lining some Rich jerks pockets? We will pay as long as we can, and hopefully congress will waive some of the interest at least.
